Hello. I'm Chihilog, a casual gourmet food tour of Fukuoka.

This time, we will introduce "KITCHEN R", which relocated and reopened on March 21, 2023.

Kitakyushu's specialty meat udon specialty store "KITCHEN R" relocates and reopens in Tokuriki, Kokuraminami Ward

Kitakyushu's specialty meat udon is a thick broth topped with large chunks of meat and ginger. The owner of the restaurant, who grew up eating this meat udon, opened a meat udon specialty restaurant called "KITCHEN R" in the Mojiko area in March 2022 to carry on the tradition.

It was a popular restaurant and will be relocating and reopening in Kokuraminami Ward on March 21st, 2023!

It is located about a 3-minute walk from the Kitakyushu Monorail "Tokurikikodan-mae" station. There are two parking spaces, so it is convenient to come by car.

The restaurant has counter seats and raised seating, making it an easy place to drop in.

The raised seating area has spacious tables, making it a great place to relax!

There are also kids' chairs available, so even those with small children can feel at ease.

Drinks are self-service, and the fact that they also have water and tea is a nice touch.

What's more, the "dried daikon strips" are also self-service and all-you-can-eat. Apparently they're delicious with salt or soy sauce!

From here, we will introduce the popular menu items at KITCHEN R.

Meat and meat udon

The first thing we would like to introduce is their signature dish, meat udon.

They also offer "Niku Udon" (800 yen) and "Half Niku Udon" (550 yen), but I ordered the "Niku Niku Udon" (1,050 yen) which has twice the meat!

Ginger, chili pepper, and shichimi pepper are placed on the table, so you can add flavor to your liking.

In fact, you can even grate your own ginger, which you can order for free.

The udon is made with kelp and bonito stock, and the rich flavor of the meat, seasoned with sweet and spicy sauce, blends perfectly with the soup, creating a truly delicious dish.

The meat used is not the commonly used beef tendon, but rare beef cheek and head meat.

I was instantly impressed by the mild, soft texture that just melted in my mouth.

The noodles are made from wheat produced in Fukuoka Prefecture. For the new version, they were made thinner than before, but still had a chewy, firm texture that was irresistible.

Grilled Cheese Curry Udon

Another notable menu item is the "Seared Cheese Curry Udon" (950 yen), which combines two Kitakyushu specialties: meat udon and grilled curry.

The meat udon is topped with curry and fragrantly grilled cheese. A deliciousness you've never experienced before!

The cheese sticks to the noodles and does a great job. Once you've finished the noodles, you can add some "extra cheese" (100 yen) or "a little rice" (50 yen) to enjoy a imitation curry rice dish!

Also noteworthy are the reasonably priced topping menu items such as "Triple Green Onion" (100 yen), "Raw Egg" (100 yen), and "Onion Tempura" (150 yen).

The photo shows "Chikuwa Isobe Age" (150 yen). It is lightly fried and has a mild flavor. It goes perfectly with the udon.

Fatty beef bowl

Along with the udon, we recommend ordering the "Toro Gyudon" (600 yen).

This dish is made with a generous amount of beef shoulder loin for steak and topped with grated yam and egg yolk.

The seasoning was carefully designed to go well with the meat udon, and it was so delicious that I couldn't stop eating. It was voluminous and very satisfying!

Apparently many people order it together with the "Half Meat Udon."

The owner of KITCHEN R, who previously worked at a welfare facility, raised funds through crowdfunding, and the shop uses tableware made by people receiving continued employment support who have difficulty finding work at a regular company due to the nature of their disabilities.

There is a sense of warmth in the different shapes and sizes of the vessels.

The large size is served in a separate bowl, but if you order the regular size, be sure to pay attention to that as well.
