[Lunch near Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine] Popular with curry connoisseurs! Enjoy exquisite meals at a traditional Japanese cafe (Fukuoka)

Hello! I'm Yumi Kuroishi, a writer who connects the city of Fukuoka with its people.

This time, we will introduce a stylish old-style cafe near Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, known among curry lovers.

Enjoy South Indian set meals called "meals" at the approximately 130-year-old traditional Japanese cafe "MIDLE." (Dazaifu City)

MIDLE. is located about a 3-minute walk from Nishitetsu Dazaifu Station, tucked away in the back of Kotorii-koji, a side street that intersects with the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.

The interior of the store, which was renovated from an old Japanese house built about 130 years ago, is a stylish space with the warmth of wood.

The seats facing the large windows are special seats, allowing you to enjoy the greenery of the courtyard.

As the shop is run by the Koga couple, who love curry, the main food item on the menu is curry, even though it is a cafe.

Koga's experiences during his stay in India led him to want to serve South Indian-style set meals called "meals" at his restaurant, focusing on vegetarian dishes that are "good for both the body and the soul."

Currently, three types are available: "Non-Veggie Meals" (1,500 yen), "Veggie Meals" (1,400 yen), and "Green Curry" (1,450 yen), all of which come with a choice of drink.

In addition to curry, you can also enjoy sweets.

The "Lemon Baked Cheesecake Drink Set" (1,150 yen), baked to perfection with a hint of lemon, and the "Coconut Carrot Cake Drink Set" (1,300 yen), made with four types of spices, are appealing for their gentle sweetness that won't leave you feeling heavy even after a meal.

They also have a wide selection of drinks. The most popular item is their carefully brewed "Coffee" (580 yen). They use beans from "3 Cedars Coffee," a specialty coffee bean shop in Oita.

Limited to 20 meals per day! Try the most popular "Non-Vegetarian Meal"

If you're unsure what to order, we recommend the "Non-Veggie Meals" (1,500 yen), which are limited to 20 meals per day. It's the most popular item.

The menu for this day was the daily chicken curry "Curry Leaf Curry",

There are three types: "Sambar (vegetable curry)" and "Dal (bean curry)".

The thin basmati rice is topped with coriander and onion achar, making it look appetizing.

The main dish, chicken curry, is well-spiced but not heavy, and the mellowness of the coconut gently brings the dish together.

There are three or more side dishes available each day. On this day, there were "Moong dal sprouts," "Pickled radish," "Cabbage poriyal," and "Spicy stir-fried potatoes."

Papad has a fun, crispy texture similar to thin rice crackers and can be eaten as is, or broken up and used as a topping.

The curry and side dishes are all delicious and you can tell they've been carefully prepared. While each dish is delicious on its own with rice, the best part of a meal is mixing everything together little by little as you eat. The flavors and textures change, and every bite is a surprise and a joy.

As a set drink, be sure to try the homemade "Masala Chai" (+100 yen). Made with simmering spices and plenty of ginger, it's a drink that will warm you from the inside out and allow you to relax after your meal.

For those who don't like spicy food, we recommend ordering the "Homemade Yogurt Lassi" (+100 yen) as a set. Other options include the non-caffeinated Indian herbal tea "Tulsi Tea (Holy Basil Tea)" (+100 yen).

By the way, the stylish tableware used for the food and drinks are all works by artists. They were selected after meeting the artists in person and learning about their passion. Please take a look.
