[Josui-dori Cafe] A tart and quiche shop loved by locals, featuring a drink bar where you can enjoy soup too! (Fukuoka)

Hello. I'm Shou Fujita, a gourmet writer whose hobby is visiting cafes.

This time, we will introduce a popular shop in Jousui-dori, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, where you can enjoy tarts filled with seasonal fruits and traditional quiche in an atmosphere reminiscent of a French country town.

Many old fans! Tart and quiche specialty shop "Le Cercle" (Josui-dori, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City)

10 minutes walk from Yakuin Odori Station on the Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line.

Located in a quiet residential area along Josui-dori Street, Le Cercle is a tart and quiche specialty shop that opened in 1997. In addition to takeout, you can also eat in.

The store name "Le Cercle", which means "round circle" in French, embodies the founder's desire to "expand the circle of connections between customers."

The brick exterior and soft beige facade blend in with the elegant atmosphere of Josui-dori Street.

Once you climb the stairs and open the door, you'll find yourself in an elegant antique space reminiscent of the French countryside.

The interior, including the vintage-style chairs that have been carefully passed down since the establishment, exudes the warmth of time.

You can spend a quiet moment as if you were gently separated from your daily life while looking at the tranquil scenery outside the large windows.

Introducing popular items from "Le Cercle" including dine-in only menu items!

The showcase at the entrance is lined with a variety of colorful tarts and quiches, catching the eye of visitors.

Le Cercle Tart

This specialty tart is made with fragrant cookie dough filled with plenty of almond cream and lavishly garnished with seasonal fruits and nuts sourced from the vegetable market.

Of the 6 to 7 varieties available every day, the manager, Takagi, recommends the "Apple and Nut Tart" (takeout 734 yen, eat-in 748 yen).

The cocoa tart is filled with caramel custard and topped with chunky apples, walnuts, pecans, and sliced almonds. The apples are softened without sautéing, using only the osmotic pressure of cinnamon sugar to create a special texture that still retains just the right amount of crunch.

The year-round menu item "Chiboust" (take-out 648 yen, eat-in 660 yen) is also a dish with many loyal fans.

It consists of two layers of custard mousse and baked pudding with mixed berries, and some regular customers order it every year for anniversaries and birthdays.

Another specialty is the quiche, which comes in two varieties: the "Spinach Quiche," with its familiar flavor, and the "Three Mushroom Quiche," flavored with the fragrant broth of Enoki, King Oyster Mushroom, and Maitake mushrooms (both 756 yen for takeout and 770 yen for eat-in).

The quiche is made by pouring an egg batter (egg mixture) containing about eight eggs and fresh cream into a crispy dough and baking it slowly for an hour and a half, resulting in a tall, fluffy crust.

Some tarts and quiches are made on a whim by Takagi-san and are only available for one day, so be sure to check out the shop's Instagram.

If you dine in, you can also use the "drink bar" (set for ages 7 and up: 780 yen, single items: 880 yen) until 3:30 pm only.

You can choose from around 16 different drinks, including coffee, several types of black tea, herbal tea, and juice, but what's great is that they also include soups such as homemade minestrone soup, which is packed with ingredients.

In addition to the tarts and quiches in the display case, you can also choose from the eat-in-only menu, such as the "Croque Madame" (950 yen) made with cheddar cheese and the "Hot Dog" (950 yen) with homemade tomato sauce and beans. If you visit between 9am and 11am, you can also enjoy the "Circle Morning" (880 yen), which includes a drink bar and homemade toast.

On this day, I ordered the "Spinach Quiche" (770 yen for eat-in) and the "Circle Morning" (880 yen).

The "Spinach Quiche" is a rich dish with a light batter packed with the delicious flavors of bacon and onions.

The mellow, rich flavor of the non-bitter spinach spreads throughout your mouth, providing a satisfying yet gentle taste that you will never tire of.

The toast made from homemade bread baked in the basement workshop is matured and fermented at low temperatures for a long time, resulting in a chewy texture.

Served with homemade whipped butter and blueberry jam, it goes perfectly with coffee or tea.

From Thursday to Sunday, they also sell freshly baked bread and bean buns.

If you order from the drink bar, we recommend you try their homemade minestrone soup.

Tomatoes are added to ingredients such as potatoes, carrots, onions, beans, and bacon, and the mixture is simmered in a large pot to create the base. The dish is then left to cool so that the flavor can fully penetrate the vegetables, and water is then added to make it into a soup.

The flavors of tomato and bacon permeate the tenderly stewed vegetables, creating a rich, nutritious taste that evokes the warmth of homemade cooking.

The carefully selected teas include Assam, Earl Grey, and Verbena from TEEJ, a tea specialty store in Denenchofu, Tokyo.

The Verbena I chose that day had a pleasant, mellow flavor and a refreshing lemon-like scent, and a clean taste that set the mood for the morning.

Le Cercle has a warm French country-style atmosphere, making you feel like you've stopped off at a cafe on your travels.

The carefully prepared tarts and quiches bring a sense of happiness, making this a hidden gem of a cafe perfect for a little treat in your daily life. (Text by Sho Fujita)
