This time, we will introduce a nostalgic coffee shop in Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture that is worth visiting even if you are from outside the prefecture.
Established over 40 years ago! A local favorite: Cafe Water Valley (Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture)
Cafe Water Valley is located along National Route 213, a two-minute drive from Inumaru IC on the Nakatsu-Hita Road.
It originally operated in Nabeshima, Nakatsu City for 40 years, but after a five-month closure, the owner's son took over and relocated and reopened in Inumaru, Nakatsu City in August 2023!

The name of the cafe, "Water Valley Cafe," comes from the fact that when "Water Valley" (literally "Water and Valley"), originally run by a man named Mizutani, closed down, the first owner took over the cafe, keeping the name the same.
It's also wonderful to hear how a coffee shop that was started with the thought of "only being open for five years" has grown into a beloved establishment that has been in business for over 40 years.

The moment you enter the shop, you'll be greeted by the wonderful aroma of coffee ♡ The shop has a Showa-era retro atmosphere with the warmth of wood. There are table seats and counter seats, making it easy to use whether you're dining alone or with your family. The current owner apparently did all the DIY work on the interior of the shop himself ♪

Cafe Water Valley offers a wide variety of menu items, including curry (from 900 yen), set meals (from 1,400 yen), spaghetti (from 1,300 yen), toast (from 650 yen), and parfaits (from 1,000 yen).
The drink menu includes a whopping 45 different items, including home-roasted coffee!

Speaking of coffee shops, this is it! "Napolitan" served on a piping hot iron plate
I ordered the typical coffee shop dish, "Napolitan" (1,400 yen). The hot steam and sizzling sound really whet your appetite ♡ The amount of noodles looked like a lot, but it was just a regular portion!

The chewy noodles are satisfying to eat and have a sweet flavor that's delicious! I think it's a flavor that everyone, from children to adults, will love. The part facing the hot plate is crispy and fragrant, and the unique flavor of the hot plate is irresistible.

It goes perfectly with the soft-boiled fried egg served on the side! When I bit into the French bread, the butter spread out in my mouth and I was very satisfied.

The nostalgic "Omurice" is also very popular!
Another popular menu item is the nostalgic "Omurice" (1,600 yen), which is wrapped in egg and topped with ketchup.

It comes with a salad made with fresh vegetables and spaghetti salad, so you can be satisfied with just one plate.

Soft drinks are also available for takeout!
The extensive soft drinks menu is available for takeout, with some exceptions.
One item that caught my eye was the takeout-only "Coffee Othello" (600 yen).

The bottom is homemade coffee jelly and the top is homemade drinking cream, so mix them well.

The balance between the bitter coffee jelly and sweet cream was a perfect match! You could also taste the texture of the coffee jelly, making it a satisfyingly delicious treat.
