[Hakata Area] Even the sweets are artistic! 3 Recommended Stylish Cafes with an Artistic Atmosphere (Fukuoka City)

Hello! I'm Yumi Kuroishi, a writer who connects the city of Fukuoka with its people.

This time, we will introduce a popular cafe where you can enjoy home-roasted coffee and artistic sweets!

A popular cafe with an art museum-like atmosphere! "MUEN COFFEE" (Gokushocho, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City)

MUEN COFFEE is located a one-minute walk from Gion Station on the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line. The shop opened in August 2024.

Enjoy home-roasted coffee and homemade sweets in an artistic space that combines traditional Japanese elements with modern art.

The restaurant has a high ceiling and a spacious feel, creating a modern and sophisticated atmosphere. There are approximately 40 seats, and it is barrier-free, making it easy for wheelchair users to use.

Inside Muen Coffee

The store's concept is "A place that connects people, things, and events that have previously been unrelated."

The interior also incorporates motifs such as "mizuhiki (red string)," which is associated with matchmaking, and the hands used to tie strings.

If you're lucky, you can even see the coffee being roasted in-house! The coffee has a clear flavor that's appealing.

One of the attractions of "MUEN COFFEE" is its home-roasted coffee.

They use freshly harvested beans from this year, carefully selected washed beans, and roast them in their raw state once a week in a glass-walled space inside the store. If you're lucky, you can watch the roasting process from your seat. When the coffee is roasting, the delicious aroma of coffee fills the air inside the store.

When roasting, they focus on the "clean cup" method, which brings out the original flavor of the beans without any impurities, resulting in a clear taste that is characterized by a fresh, fruity flavor.

You can choose the type of beans for "Drip Coffee" (from 700 yen). On this day, there were six types available: the signature blend "MUEN BLEND" with its well-balanced flavor, the seasonal "October Blend (seasonal)," as well as "Colombia," "Ethiopia," "Papua New Guinea," and "Mexico (decaf)." The types of beans offered change with the seasons.

Like a work of art! 3 recommended menu items from this restaurant

All of the sweets are handmade, and the artistic finish is a feast for the eyes.

They offer seasonal sweets, including their specialty "Matcha Garden Cake" (2,000 yen), which can be shared by several people, as well as "Coffee Banana Mousse" (680 yen), a smooth two-layered coffee and banana mousse.

This time, we will introduce three recommended restaurants that you can enjoy all year round!

Tiramisu

The first dish we'll introduce is the "Tiramisu" (680 yen), which has been extremely popular since the cafe opened and has many repeat customers. The mocha sauce made with MUEN BLEND espresso is generously soaked into sponge cake and combined with mascarpone cream.

The sponge cake is thin and has many layers, making it smooth yet enjoyable to eat! The salty and crunchy crumble at the bottom adds an accent, and the overall balance of the cake is excellent.

If you like, you can add the accompanying espresso to create a more bitter and rich tiramisu.

Brulee Cheesecake

Our second recommendation is the gluten-free "Brûlée Cheesecake" (680 yen).

You can choose whether or not to brulee the top of the cheesecake, but the shop staff recommends bruleeing it.

This time I had it with the brulee, and the aroma of the brulee went perfectly with the coffee. The outside was crispy and fragrant, while the inside had a melt-in-your-mouth texture, which was also great.

There is another type of brulee cheesecake, the Matcha Brulee Cheesecake (680 yen), which is a must-try for matcha lovers.

The shop's signature drink, the "Red Latte" (700 yen), is an espresso drink made with red beet powder, and is a feast for the eyes as well. The simple, mild sweetness of the beet is deeply savory, making it a drink you can only get here!

Other drinks on offer include the original "Red Americano" (700 yen), which uses beet powder for a delicate and creamy taste, the seasonal "Purple Sweet Potato Latte" (700 yen), which uses purple sweet potato, and the vibrantly colored "Blue Cream Soda" (700 yen). There is also a wide selection of matcha-based drinks, with the "Matcha Latte" (700 yen) being particularly popular with foreign tourists.

Coffee beans and baked goods are also recommended as gifts.

They also sell their own roasted coffee beans! All varieties are available in 100g and 200g sizes, including "MUEN BLEND" (100g/1,200 yen, 200g/2,300 yen).

Once you taste the coffee at the shop, you'll want to buy some beans to take home.

"Baked goods" (from 250 yen) are perfect as a treat for yourself or as a gift.

There is also a "Sticker Pack" (400 yen).

The space, which combines traditional Japanese elements with modern art, is just like an art museum! No matter where you look, it's a picturesque space that's perfect for posting on social media.
