[Itoshima Lunch] A popular izakaya that's trending by word of mouth! Enjoy delicious set meals with great value for money using local ingredients
Hello! I'm Yumi Kuroishi, a writer who connects the city of Fukuoka with its people.
This time, we will introduce a popular creative izakaya in Itoshima City that has been getting a lot of buzz from word of mouth for its delicious meat and fish dishes!
Carefully handcrafted! Enjoy creative cuisine made with fresh ingredients from Itoshima at "KITCHEN JAWS" (Itoshima City)
KITCHEN Joe's is located along National Route 202, a 10-minute walk from Gafuri Station on the JR Chikuhi Line.
The owner, Yasumitsu Kugimoto, was born into a family that runs a seafood processing business in Itoshima, and is a veteran chef who has gained a wide range of experience, starting with working at a French restaurant in Oita Prefecture. He opened the restaurant in December 2023 with the aim of utilizing the skills he has cultivated to offer creative cuisine that transcends the boundaries of Japanese, Western, and Chinese cuisine, using local ingredients from Itoshima.
The name "Jaws" was chosen to give the shop a nostalgic feel, making it easy to remember. The original old-fashioned exterior has been left intact, and a neon sign has been installed to make it more eye-catching.

The relaxing interior features a stylish bar counter and tatami seating for a total of 30 people.

Delicious lunch set meals starting from 1,100 yen! Made with fresh fish of the day and Itoshima brand pork
The extremely popular lunch menu (available only on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Sundays) features seven different set meals, all of which come with a main course, rice, soup, salad, and dessert, and are highly rated for their great value!

This is the "Fried Chicken on the Bone Set Meal" (1,210 yen) with "Sashimi" added, which can be added to any lunch set for an additional 330 yen.

The "fried chicken on the bone" is made with young chicken from Kyushu, and is soft and juicy. It's big and filling!

The salad was packed with fresh Itoshima vegetables, and the crisp texture and freshness were exceptional!

In addition, for an additional 330 yen, two types of sashimi are served daily, and on this day they were natural red sea bream and yellowtail.
The crunchy texture that only fresh fish can provide is irresistible! If you love fish, be sure to order this.

Desserts change depending on the day, but on this day they had homemade almond tofu. It was milky but had a clean aftertaste and was not too strong. Apparently there are also days when they serve creme brulee and other desserts.

Other dishes include the well-seasoned "daily fresh fish simmered set meal" (1,320 yen)

Crisply fried and fluffy "Fresh Fish Tatsuta-age Set Meal" (1,100 yen),

The colorful "Fresh Fish Yulingchi Style Set Meal" (1,320 yen),

I also had the "Shrimp Chili Set Meal" (1,540 yen) which uses plump shrimp, and everything was delicious!

Other lunch set meals include the "Daily Fried Fish Set Meal" (1,210 yen) which uses fresh fish of the day, and the "Ichikisan Pork Katsudon Set Meal" (1,540 yen) which uses Itoshima's brand pork.
Dinner recommendations are "Sashimi," "Charcoal-grilled Itoshima Beef," and "Clay Pot Rice."
The evening menu, which starts at 5pm, offers a wide range of dishes, including sashimi, snacks, vegetable dishes, seafood dishes, meat dishes, clay pot rice, and sweets! Here are three dishes we particularly recommend.
This is the "Daily Sashimi Platter (4 types)" (1,650 yen per person). The photo shows a portion for two people.
Enjoy the luxury of four types of fresh seafood procured directly from anglers and fishermen in Itoshima.

"Charcoal Grilled Itoshima Beef and Warm Vegetables" (100g/1,980 yen) is a masterpiece made with Itoshima beef, of which only around 700 are shipped annually, cooked medium rare over charcoal.
It pairs perfectly with the fruity Japanese-style apple sauce, and the soft texture releases more and more flavor with each bite!

Another must-try is the "Nijo Yume Tsukushi Earthenware Pot Rice" (2 cups for 1,320 yen), which is made using "Yume Tsukushi" rice grown without the use of pesticides in the Nijo area of Itoshima city and cooked in a clay pot upon order.
You can enjoy the fluffy taste that only freshly cooked rice can provide.
