Worth making a reservation! Autumn-only "Mushroom and Eel Clay Pot Rice" at an eel specialty restaurant (Maizuru, Fukuoka City)

Hello! I'm Hakata Aya, a writer who loves hot information about Fukuoka.

This time, we will introduce "Kyoto Kara Unagi Akasaka Branch," an eel specialty restaurant located in Maizuru, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City.

In addition to the delicious Kanto-style eel, which is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, don't miss out on the autumn-only menu, perfect for this season!

"Kyoto Kara Unagi Akasaka Branch" (Maizuru, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City) is an eel specialty restaurant that will make anyone "start loving eels today"

Opened in July 2024, "Kyoto Kara Unagi Akasaka" is located about a 5-minute walk from Akasaka Station on the Subway Airport Line.

The restaurant has eight counter seats, six table seats, and private rooms, so it can be used for a wide range of purposes, from a luxurious lunch for one person to a meal with family or a special someone.

The concept of the restaurant is "We want you to fall in love with eel starting today," but behind this lies the owner's own experience. When he tried eel as a child, he was put off by the small bones and the smell, and ended up hating it, but when he tried it as an adult, he found it very delicious.

All of the eels served here are Japanese eels, grilled in the Kanto style. By steaming them, they are able to create an exquisite texture that is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. This texture is the owner's greatest strength, as he is particularly keen to convey the appeal of the texture and aroma.

Menu items include "Unagi Gozen Kyo" (2,980 yen) and "Hitsumabushi" (3,280 yen).

In addition to the main menu, one item that caught our eye this time was the special autumn menu item "Mushroom and Eel Clay Pot Rice," which was introduced on October 22, 2025 (orders can be made for two or more people, reservations required. 2,480 yen for one person, 4,480 yen for two people).

The dish is served with the lid on, so the moment you open the pot, the aroma of mushrooms, butter, and eel wafts out, instantly whetting your appetite.

The rice used is "Sagabiyori," a variety of rice grown in Saga Prefecture that has a good balance of stickiness and sweetness.

The umami of the eel and the gentle flavor and richness of the butter permeate every grain of rice. The mellow taste of the mushrooms is irresistible!

This clay pot rice is hitsumabushi style and can be enjoyed in three stages.

First, enjoy the simple aroma and flavor of eel, mushrooms, and butter.

Next, enjoy the mellowness and change of flavor by adding the accompanying egg and condiments.

Finally, pour in some dashi or tea to finish off the meal with a fragrant ochazuke style meal!

It was my first time to eat eel with seasoned rice, but it was a better match than I expected! I was convinced that this would become a new classic deliciousness.

The "Sanma Set Meal" that can only be found at an eel specialty restaurant is a must-try.

If you want to try the restaurant's eel but also want to avoid the seasonal pacific saury, the "Saury Set Meal" (1,280 yen) will satisfy your desires, available for a limited time until mid-November 2025.

The fatty pacific saury is carefully grilled simply with salt, bringing out the full flavor of the ingredients.

This is a very satisfying Japanese set meal with a wonderful aroma and plumpness of the fish.

It is served as a set meal with udon and soup, and the reasonable price of 1,280 yen will make you want to come back again and again.
