This time, we will introduce the popular Chinese restaurant "Hoshigaki" located in Kego, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City.
Authentic Chinese cuisine at reasonable prices! A former hotel chef shows off his skills at "Chinese Restaurant Hoshigaki" (Kego, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City)
"Hoshigaki Chinese Restaurant" is a local Chinese restaurant that opened in October 2024. The restaurant was started by a chef with 24 years of experience as a hotel chef, who wanted to serve authentic Chinese food at reasonable prices.
It is a 5-minute walk from Exit 2 of Yakuin-Odori Station on the Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line, along Shoninbashi-dori Street, which runs from Yakuin Mutsukado towards Tenjin. The area is bustling with stylish cafes and restaurants.

The entrance to the store is on the left hand side as you enter from the building's corridor, and you will be greeted by cheerful and energetic staff.

The interior of the restaurant is a modern and stylish space that overturns the traditional image of a "local Chinese restaurant."

The interior is unified with a clean design that evokes the warmth of wood, creating a calm atmosphere.
In addition to counter seats (9 seats) and table seats (12 seats), there are also semi-private rooms (12 seats) and fully private rooms (8 seats) for a more private feel.
Our greatest strength is our ability to cater to a variety of occasions, from casual dining for one person to dates, family dinners, large banquets and business entertainment.

Here is the menu. Courses start at 2,500 yen, and the prices of their speciality dishes, such as "Spring Rolls" (200 yen each), "Chinese Noodles" (950 yen), and "Sesame Dumplings" (120 yen each), are generally reasonable, which is great.
An original dish that combines hot pot and motsunabe! "Hakata Motsunabe Hot Pot" is a must-try
The recommended menu item is "Hakata Motsunabe" (from 2,400 yen for two servings).
This is an original dish made by the restaurant that uses the round-shaped Sichuan peppers and combines the Chinese hotpot with Hakata's famous motsunabe. The spiciness can be adjusted to 1, 2 or 3. You can also add extra offal for 500 yen per 50g, so if you want to eat a lot, this is the place to go.

The light, spicy soup is combined with tender beef offal (small intestine) and the delicious flavors of vegetables, making this an excellent hot pot that goes well with alcohol.

Once you've finished your hot pot, you can order one of four final dishes from the menu: "Chinese noodles" (130g/+300 yen), "Dan Dan Chinese noodles" (+500 yen), "Cheese risotto" (+400 yen), and "Dan Dan Cheese risotto" (+750 yen).
This time I ordered "Cheese Risotto".

The hot pot soup was rich and smooth, and it was delicious. If you order a final dish, be sure to save some of the delicious soup, which is bursting with flavor.

Another recommendation is the "Original Mao Zedong Chicken" (950 yen).

A spicy dish based on Hunan cuisine from China, this dish is made with deep-fried chicken and generously topped with a special crunchy condiment made from a mixture of spices such as chili peppers and cumin, as well as fried garlic.
The juicy meat and crunchy garlic flavor will become addictive! Five pieces make this a very filling meal.

The classic "Shrimp with Mayonnaise Sauce" (1,150 yen) has the taste of elegant hotel cuisine.

The "Lunch Set" is also very popular! Choose your main dish and have rice refills for just 1,300 yen
The lunch menu is also popular and can be enjoyed from 11:30 to 15:00 (last orders 14:00 on weekdays, 14:30 on weekends and holidays).
The "Lunch Set Meal" includes a choice of nine main dishes, such as "Shrimp in Chili Sauce," "Chicken Nanban," and "Sweet and Sour Pork," two side dishes, salad, soup, unlimited rice refills, and dessert, all for just 1,300 yen! Apparently, the unlimited rice refills are a popular feature.
The weekday-only "Daily Set Meal" is even more reasonable, starting at 950 yen. You can check the menu in store and on Instagram. There is also a wide selection of noodle and rice bowl dishes available as a la carte, starting from around 800 yen.
