This time, we will introduce an excellent curry restaurant in Chikugo City.

Jungle Soup Curry, a genuine soup curry restaurant that fills up quickly on weekends (Chikugo City)

Jungle Soup Curry is located about a two-minute drive from JR Chikugo Funagoya Station, near Chikugo Regional Park.

This authentic soup curry restaurant won the grand prize for three consecutive years in 2021, 2022, and 2023 at the "Grand Cuisine," a gourmet award chosen by owner chefs from all over the country (sponsored by the Grand Cuisine Executive Committee).

Choose the type of curry sauce, toppings, and spiciness before ordering

First, choose your main curry.

Jungle Soup Curry's curry is made by slowly simmering vegetables, fruit, chicken, beef, and other ingredients over a long period of time to bring out the flavor, and then adding dozens of spices in a unique blend. It took 1,795 days to develop, and was completed after more than 1,000 trial and error attempts, including eating at over 30 famous soup curry restaurants in Sapporo, the birthplace of soup curry.

There are 11 types of curry available, including the most popular "Black Dracula Beef Soup Curry" (from 2,410 yen), "Red Devil Shrimp Soup Curry" (from 2,300 yen), "Chicken Fillet and Cheese Soup Curry" (from 2,300 yen), "Keema Soup Curry" (from 2,190 yen), "Big Wiener Soup Curry" (from 2,190 yen), and "Vegetable Soup Curry" (from 1,970 yen).

All curries are available in "Standard" with the main ingredient and nine kinds of vegetables, and "Jungle" with the main ingredient, double the amount of nine kinds of vegetables, and a soft-boiled egg. Some also offer a "Double Main" option, which doubles the amount of main without the vegetables.

Next, you can choose the type of roux you want. There are five types: the shop's standard "Original," "Tomato," "Coconut Milk," "Lightly Medicinal" (+180 yen), and "Hearty Medicinal" (+380 yen).

Next, choose your level of spiciness. Levels 1 to 10 are free. After that, you can go up to 11 spiciness (+100 yen), for a total of 112 levels of variation, making it perfect for those who love extra spicy food.

Additionally, you can add toppings for an additional fee, such as "Cheese" (+180 yen), "Soft-boiled egg" (+100 yen), "One vegetable" (+50 yen), "Chicken on the bone" (+380 yen), "Shrimp" (+480 yen), and "Pork loin cutlet" (+480 yen), so you can customize your meal to your liking.

What's more, you can also get two free refills of curry roux, which is a great deal.
*Refills are available in medium spicy or mild "Original" soup.

For children under elementary school age, there is a kids' menu of "Wiener Soup Curry," "Chicken Soup Curry," and "Fried Shrimp Soup Curry" (880 yen each), which also comes with an all-you-can-eat salad buffet, rice, bread, and dessert, as well as two refills of curry roux.

If you only want to use the salad buffet and rice corner, you can enjoy it for 580 yen. *Only for children aged 3 to elementary school age. Children 2 and under are free.

Overflowing with flavor! Popular menu items: "Seafood Soup Curry" and "Double Pork Loin Cutlet Soup Curry"

First, let me introduce the two types of curry that I ordered that day.

This is the "Seafood Soup Curry" (2,630 yen), which looks extravagant and will get you excited. I ordered it at level 1 spiciness and with the "original" curry roux.

The standard level is medium spicy, so even the spicy level is quite spicy, but the umami flavors of the seafood, such as head-on shrimp, squid, mussels, and baby scallops, are infused into the ramen, giving it a refined spiciness.

Each of the nine types of deep-fried vegetables is delicious and you won't be able to stop eating them.

This is the popular "Double Pork Loin Cutlet Soup Curry" (2,520 yen). The default is two large pork loin cutlets and soup curry with no vegetables. The photo shows the dish topped with potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, eggplant, lotus root, green beans, and okra (50 yen each).

The spiciness level is 1 sweet, and the curry roux is "original." The curry is sweeter than the standard, and apparently it's made sweeter with honey.

I was impressed by the all-you-can-eat menu

The hearty soup curry alone is satisfying, but it's also worth mentioning that the all-you-can-eat side dishes are just as delicious as the main course!

Although it's called a "salad buffet," it's not just a selection of raw vegetables.

"Homemade pickles," "okra and green beans with mentaiko," "marinated onions," "homemade potato chips"...

All the dishes, including "Carrot Rapée," "Cabbage and Orange with Yuzu Dressing," "Garlic Toast," "Sauteed White Fungus with Garlic," and "Thai-style Sakura Shrimp with Chili Vermicelli," are first-rate!

The "Eggplant pasta with tomato sauce" and "Chopped okra pasta with yuzu" were especially delicious, and were of such high quality that I would order them even if they were on the menu as individual dishes.
