Those in the know will know! A famous fish restaurant (Ohori area) where you can enjoy the ultimate set meal with a variety of main dishes
Hello. I'm Shou Fujita, a gourmet writer who finds happiness in set meal lunches.
This time, we will introduce you to a fish restaurant near Ohori Park Station that stands out from the rest for its proven skills.
A serious fish set meal prepared by a Japanese chef! "Gohan-ya Hansuke" (Otemon, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City), a highly skilled fish restaurant
A three-minute walk from Ohori Park Station on the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line, Gohan-ya Iisuke is a fish restaurant that has taken root in the Otemon area, a popular spot for foodies.
The restaurant's concept is "a restaurant that serves delicious rice and fish."
This restaurant offers high-quality fish dishes in a relaxed style with set meals, and is a highly skilled restaurant that has been featured in the Michelin Guide (※). ※Michelin Guide Fukuoka 2019 Michelin Plate

The interior of the store is bright, spacious, and open, like a cafe.
It seems to be popular with customers of all ages, from office workers to families with children.
There are also counter seats, so it seems that many women drop in alone on their way home from work to enjoy a set meal before heading home.

The owner, Mr. Miyake, has experience in Japanese cuisine at notable inns, hotels, and restaurants across the country, including Hagi Honjin in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
In 2016, he opened "Gohanya Iisuke" in his hometown of Fukuoka as a restaurant where customers could simply enjoy his specialty, fish dishes.

The signature dish is a rich variety of fish set meals, available for both lunch and dinner, that make use of the skills and experience of Mr. Miyake, who has honed his skills at famous restaurants.
For the main fish, Miyake, whose philosophy is to "serve honest, steady fish," carefully selects only the highest quality, mainly local Kyushu fish.
The set menu includes a sashimi set menu where you can choose your favorite topping, and about 16 different set meals (starting from around 1,200 yen) featuring salt-grilled and boiled dishes as the main dishes.

Boiled turnip, rice, miso soup. A "boiled turnip" set meal with everything you need!
On this day, I ordered Miyake's recommended "Braised Turnip" (3,500 yen) and "Chokosashi" (500 yen), a platter of three kinds of sashimi.

The main dish of the stew, with its soft aroma of soy sauce, is captivating with the impressiveness of the turnip soaked in plenty of broth.

The broth is rich but not too sweet, so it doesn't feel heavy and goes perfectly with rice.
The turnip, which is prepared and boiled after the order is placed, is moist and the flavor spreads throughout your mouth as soon as you put it in your mouth.
This is a blissful dish that you will find yourself eating all the meat, even down to the bones, as you pour the broth over it with a spoon.
The glossy rice is made using "Tsuyahime" rice from Yamagata Prefecture, which Miyake says is his favorite out of the many brands he has tried.

Miyake felt that "even if the rice is the same brand, the taste is completely different depending on where it is produced," so he enters into annual contracts with farmers to ensure he can consistently source high-quality rice.
The rice, which is cooked in large quantities in a gas cooker, has firm grains and a firm texture.
Another great thing about the restaurant is that they continue to cook rice regularly even after they opened, so you can always enjoy freshly cooked rice whenever you visit.
The miso soup is made with dashi stock made from freshly grated bonito flakes, which are grated in-house every day, and a uniquely blended miso based on a mixed miso paste that contains no food additives.

The ingredients are selected with an emphasis on nutritional balance and seasonal flavor, with a focus on seasonal vegetables and seaweed.
On this day, the miso soup was filled with tofu and green seaweed, and had a pleasant sea scent and a gentle flavor that seeped straight into the body.
"Chokosashi" (500 yen), which offers daily changing sashimi, is also a highly ordered dish.

On this day, there were three types of fish on offer: squid with a sticky texture, meaty horse mackerel, and rockfish with a delicate flavor.
The rich flavor that only sashimi can offer has a different appeal than simmered food.
It is possible to order just the main fish dish for the set meal, and there is also a wide selection of a la carte dishes such as tempura, so it would be nice to enjoy it izakaya-style in the evening with a glass of local Kyushu sake.

The fish set meal at Gohanya Iisuke is a delicious blend of carefully selected fish dishes, rice, and miso soup.
