[Near Ohori Park] A bakery specializing in pork cutlets that is hugely popular overseas!
Hello. I'm Sho Fujita, a restaurant marketer who prefers bread for breakfast.
This time, we will introduce a bakery in the Ohori Park area whose extra thick cutlet sandwiches are extremely popular with foreign tourists.
A popular bakery run by a tonkatsu specialty store! "AKARI BAKERY" (Otemon, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City)
2 minutes walk from Ohori Park Station on the Subway Kuko Line.
Akari Bakery has a warm exterior and is marked by a noren curtain.
This bakery opened in June 2023 to fully launch the katsu sandwiches of Tonkatsu Akari, which has four stores in Fukuoka City.

The small shop is filled with an overwhelming variety of breads and sweets, with around 40 different types to choose from.

The lineup includes a particularly wide variety of specialty sandwiches such as the pork cutlet sandwich, and cute-looking donuts, making it hard to resist picking one up.

The store is equipped with an oven and a note with an estimated baking time, so you can heat up the bread you purchased and enjoy it in the park or at the office.

You'll want to try everything! A variety of satisfying specialty breads
The signature cutlet sandwich comes in two varieties: the classic "Kyushu Brand Pork Loin Cutlet Sandwich" (half, 497 yen/photo above) and the less fatty "Kyushu Brand Pork Fillet Cutlet Sandwich" (half, 497 yen/photo below).

They use Sangen pork from Itoshima, which they purchase in whole cows. The meat is moist and cut quite thick, so it's very satisfying to eat.
The spicy sauce, developed based on Tonkatsu Hikari's tonkatsu sauce, is a luxurious flavor that matches the sourness of the whole grain mustard and the slightly sweet bread.
It has spread on social media overseas, especially in Korea, and it seems that many tourists visit the restaurant just for the katsu sandwich.
In addition, the bread used in the cutlet sandwich is also sold as "Akari Kaku Shokupan" (1 loaf, 427 yen).

The aged dough is baked in a stone oven to lock in the flavor and moisture, resulting in a moist, chewy texture and a gentle sweetness.
It has a rich flavor that makes it delicious not only in sandwiches but also on its own.
Another specialty bread that rivals the pork cutlet sandwich is the "Itoshima Pork Spicy Curry Bread" (302 yen).

The curry inside is the same as that served at Tonkatsu Hikari, a spicy curry bread for adults that is a complex blend of over 18 types of spices.
The fragrant dough, crunchy vegetables, and rich Itoshima-produced Sangen pork that has been simmered for 2-3 days are also points that make it very satisfying.
The "Akari Dog" (529 yen), which has been popular since the restaurant opened, is also a hearty dish.

The extra thick sausage, flavored with herbs and pepper, has a soft texture and is surprisingly light to eat.
This hot dog has a strong presence thanks to the fresh acidity and crunch of thickly sliced pickles.
We offer a wide variety of bagels that are perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a snack.
"Sesame and Sweet Potato" (259 yen) has a gentle flavor with the rich taste of soft, sweet sweet potato and sesame.

The bagel dough, which was made after many prototypes, is made using glutinous rice flour, which gives it a chewy yet soft texture, making it easy to eat for people of all ages, from children to the elderly.
There are about 12 kinds of donuts available, but the most popular is the "Lemon Donut" (237 yen).

This donut has fluffy dough and is topped with lemon-flavored icing and lemon slices soaked in syrup, making it an appealing balance of freshness and sweetness.
The "Kinako Donut" (205 yen), filled with bean paste and shiratama (rice flour dumplings), is also a popular item with many die-hard fans.

This Japanese-style donut has the chewy texture of shiratama, the fragrant flavor of kinako, and the gentle sweetness of bean paste, making it a perfect match for both tea and coffee.
In addition to the standard items introduced above, new and limited-time breads are constantly being introduced at AKARI BAKARY, so one of the attractions is that you can always find new bread.

The owner, Nishimura, who has trained as a baker for over 10 years, researches the product on social media every day, develops ideas, makes prototypes, and quickly commercializes them.
Some products are only available on that day, so we recommend checking out the store's Instagram!
They are also planning to set up stalls at markets and bread festivals. This is a bakery that is sure to become even more famous in the future. (Text by Sho Fujita)
