[Moji Cafe] The owner's whimsical sweets are popular! A stylish hideaway with a great atmosphere (Kitakyushu City)

Hello. I'm Momo and I love going to cafes.

This time, we will introduce a small cafe located in Kiyotaki, Moji Ward, Kitakyushu City.

Only open on weekends! Shiki, a traditional Japanese cafe nestled in the backstreets of Mojiko Port (Kiyotaki, Moji Ward, Kitakyushu City)

"Shiki" is a hideaway cafe quietly located in a residential area, an 8-minute walk from JR Mojiko Station.

It is a small cafe run by a single owner that opened in 2020. It was temporarily closed due to construction work to prevent the building from deteriorating, but the long-awaited reopening is scheduled for May 2024! With the idea of "creative time in a space and with products that reflect the seasons," it is currently only open on Saturdays and Sundays (please check Instagram for opening hours during Golden Week).

I went there around 2pm on a Saturday, but it was already full! Reservations are not accepted and there are only a few seats, so I recommend going there with plenty of time.

As you make your way through the winding residential area, you'll come across a shop renovated from an old house.

The interior of the store is filled with natural light and has a calming atmosphere with the warmth of wood.

It is a small restaurant with only three tables that seat two people.

The flowers on each table are for sale and can be purchased individually. They will wrap your flowers for you, so they are also recommended as small gifts.

The sweets offered change every day, and on the day I visited there were three types available: "Whimsical Pound Cake" (450 yen), "Whimsical Ice Cream" (420 yen), and "Coffee Float" (750 yen).

First up is the "Whimsical Pound Cake" (450 yen). Apparently it's made according to the season and the mood, and there's no advance notice, so you'll have to wait until you get there to find out what kind will be on offer♪ On this day, it was the "Banana and Cardamom Pound Cake."

This pound cake is made with cardamom, known as the "queen of spices," and is topped with whipped cream.

With just one bite, the spicy aroma spreads across the air, matching perfectly with the sweet banana. It also goes great with coffee or wine.

When eaten with whipped cream the flavor becomes even more mellow and it is very easy to eat.

The other thing I had was the "Whimsical Ice Cream" (420 yen).

Apparently the serving style varies depending on the availability of ingredients, but on this day it was regular vanilla ice cream. It was delicious with a rich vanilla flavor.

On certain days, you can enjoy vanilla ice cream with a sophisticated flavor, topped with olive oil flavored with truffle salt and black pepper (it is also possible to serve just vanilla ice cream).

We also have a wide selection of drinks on the menu, including coffee and wine!

"Yoki" also has a wide selection of drinks on the menu.

We recommend the "Glass of Red Wine / Banyuls 2021 (France)" (900 yen) and the "Glass of White Wine / Riesling 2021 (USA)," which can be enjoyed paired with sweets.

Other drinks available include 100% Aomori Apple Juice (550 yen) and 100% White Grape Juice (Chardonnay) (680 yen).

This time I had the "Blended Coffee (hot)" (650 yen).

This original coffee is made with beans roasted at Zelkova Coffee in Ukiha, Fukuoka Prefecture, and blended to go perfectly with sweets. It has just the right balance of sweetness and acidity, and is mild and easy to drink.

The other drink I had was a hot cafe au lait (650 yen).

It uses the same coffee beans as the "Blend Coffee," and the bitterness of the coffee and the sweetness of the milk are exquisite. It has a bitter, mature taste.

A café where you can spend some "rare time" in a relaxed atmosphere. It's recommended for solo travelers, dates, and families. Please come and visit us! (Text by momo)
