Exquisite naan with unlimited refills! A popular Indian restaurant with delicious food and great customer service that will definitely make you a repeat customer (Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City)
Hello. I'm Honosuke, and I love not only visiting cafes but also visiting curry restaurants.
This time, I would like to introduce my favorite Indian restaurant located in Kurohara, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City.
Recharge your energy and spices in a lively restaurant! "Authentic Indian Cuisine Assis Kurohara Branch" (Kurohara, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City)
"Authentic Indian Cuisine Assis Kurohara Branch" is located along Prefectural Route 264, a one-minute walk from the Nishitetsu bus stop Kurohara 2-chome.
Now in its 14th year, this popular restaurant is run by a kind-hearted couple who love children. They serve a variety of authentic Indian dishes, with curry as their main dish.

Image: Honosuke
There is a parking lot, Parking Lot 1 (3 spaces) on the right side of the store, and Parking Lot 2 (2 spaces) next to the "Seven-Eleven Kokura Kurohara 2-chome Store" about 100 meters away from the store. Both are a little narrow, so please be careful when parking if you are coming by a large car.
When I open the entrance door, the staff always greet me cheerfully with "Welcome! Hello!" I'm sure there are many regulars who come here because they look forward to hearing this greeting. I'm one of them.
The restaurant has table seats and counter seats.
Looking around the store, you'll see lots of wonderful decorations! Most of them are handmade by the owner couple. They are masterpieces, finished one by one by hand, with Swarovski crystals attached and patterns inspired by the traditional Indian dress, the sari, created using colored spray paint.
One of them even has "Welcome to Assis" written in Hindi. If you visit the store, be sure to take a look at the interior decorations.
You might be satisfied with just the welcoming greeting and the lovely interior decoration, but... let's get to the main topic. Now, let's introduce the recommended menu!
First, check out the lunch menu! Don't miss the homemade special drinks!
This is the lunch menu. Assis' curry is made with six different bases, including onion and tomato, and there are about 50 varieties in total. The lunch menu includes about 10 recommended varieties.

Image: Honosuke
You can choose the spiciness of the curry for free, from mild (recommended for children) to super spicy (20x), so you can adjust it to your liking! Even if you don't like spicy food, it's okay◎. I don't like spicy food, so I always choose 1x. My husband, who doesn't like it as much, always enjoys it at 0x (no spiciness). If you like spicy food, you can make it 21x to 50x for an additional 110 yen, or 51x to 100x for an additional 165 yen, so why not give it a try?
Ladies Lunch
This is the "Ladies Lunch" (1,250 yen). *Men can also order this.
This set includes one curry of your choice, curry of the day, half cheese naan (can be changed to naan or rice), chicken tikka (boneless tandoori chicken cut into bite-sized pieces), salad, papal, and dessert.
The curry in the photo is "Shrimp Curry". The curry of the day was "Bean and Spinach Curry".

Image: Honosuke
The "Shrimp Curry" is an onion and tomato based curry with plump shrimp, a must-try for shrimp lovers! The "Bean and Spinach Curry" was spicy but light in taste, accented by the fluffy texture of the lentils.
For dessert, you can choose from two options: "Mango mousse" and "Coconut mousse." I chose the "Coconut mousse," which is my favorite and one I always eat.

Image: Honosuke
It's a sweet and rich mousse that gives off the aroma of coconut the moment you bite into it. It has a smooth and jiggly texture, and once you try it you'll be hooked ♡ It's a popular dessert with many fans.
Today's Curry Lunch
This is the "Today's Curry Lunch" (990 yen) that my husband ordered.
The set includes today's curry (pictured is "Bean and spinach curry"), naan or rice, salad, parpal, and a drink. My husband, who loves naan, chose naan.

Image: Honosuke
Can you imagine the size of the naan? This is a regular size, but it's definitely bigger than my hand! This homemade naan baked in a tandoori oven is chewy on the outside and inside, and crispy on the inside. It's slightly sweet and delicious just as is! I feel like I could eat as much as I want ♪

Image: Honosuke
By the way, if you order a single naan (half is OK) or a set menu that includes naan, you can have as much plain naan as you like for both lunch and dinner. They offer regular, half, and baby (about 1/3 size) sizes, so it's nice to be able to choose according to how hungry you are.
You can choose from seven types of drinks, and my husband chose "Hot Chai." This is their specialty, carefully boiled and brewed after receiving an order. It has a mild and rich flavor, and is soothing to drink after eating curry.

Image: Honosuke
Cheese naan lunch
Next is the "Cheese Naan Lunch" (1,180 yen).
The set includes one curry of your choice, cheese naan (can be changed to plain naan or rice), salad, parpal, and a drink.
The cheese naan has an addictive taste, with a slightly sweet dough and the salty cheese that matches perfectly. It's full of cheese and very filling! For curry, I chose "shrimp curry."

Image: Honosuke
For drinks, try the "Iced Chai." Perfect for after a spicy curry or on a hot day! It's a refreshing, easy-to-drink cup that lets you really feel the aroma and flavor of the tea leaves.

Image: Honosuke
This was the "Cheese Naan Lunch" (1,180 yen) on another day.
I chose the onion and tomato based "Seafood Curry". It contained three types of seafood: clams, shrimp, and squid. It was packed with ingredients and was very tasty.

Image: Honosuke
The drink of the day was Lassi.
At Assis, they don't use any commercially available yogurt mixes, but instead make their own from scratch, using milk to make the yogurt.
This lovingly homemade "lassi" is thick and rich, yet has a refreshing taste with just the right amount of sweet and sour! Needless to say, it's the perfect match for curry.

Image: Honosuke
Dinner is also reasonably priced! A wide variety of set menus
We would like to introduce you to some recommended set menus for dinner time.

Women's Sets
First, let's start with the "Ladies Set" (1,640 yen). *Men can also order.
The set includes your choice of one curry (choose from four types: chicken and egg curry, pork curry, shrimp curry, or minced meat and eggplant curry), naan or rice, salad, papal, dessert, and drink.
This is what happens when you choose "chicken and egg curry" and "rice." I think most people choose naan when eating Indian curry, but rice also goes great with it, so please give it a try♪

Image: Honosuke
Needless to say, the parent-child combo of chicken and boiled egg is a perfect match ◎ The onion and tomato-based curry is combined with the boiled egg to enhance its richness and mellowness! It was a new and delicious sensation.

Image: Honosuke
Tandoori Chicken Set
For chicken lovers, we recommend the "Tandoori Chicken Set" (1,555 yen).
This set includes your choice of one curry (choose from 5 types: minced meat and egg curry, pork curry, shrimp curry, chicken curry, or eggplant and tomato curry), naan or rice, tandoori chicken, salad, and parpal. The photo shows "Shrimp Curry" and "Rice."

Image: Honosuke
"Tandoori chicken" is chicken marinated in yogurt and spices and cooked in a tandoor oven. Its reddish color makes it seem very spicy, but this is the color of the spices and it's not that spicy. It was just the right amount of spicy for someone like me who doesn't like spicy food, and it was moist and juicy! It was absolutely delicious.
Maharaja Set
The "Maharaja Set" (1,540 yen) is recommended for those who want to enjoy a variety of dishes such as chicken tikka and shish kebab along with their curry.
This set includes your choice of one curry (choose from five types: minced meat curry/pork and potato curry/spinach and chicken curry/eggplant and chicken curry/eggplant and shrimp curry), naan or rice, chicken tikka, seesh kebab, salad, and papal.
The curry in the photo is an onion and tomato based "Eggplant and Shrimp Curry". The difference in texture between the shrimp and eggplant is also nice. It has a rich flavor thanks to the fresh cream.

Image: Honosuke
Shish kebab is a skewered meat dish that is popular throughout Asia, especially the Middle East. The shish kebab at "Assis" is made with minced chicken and pork, and the texture of vegetables such as onions and peppers adds a nice accent to the dish, making it very delicious.
And while we tend to focus only on the curry and naan, at Assis we want you to pay attention to the salads as well!
The homemade dressing is delicious and brings out the flavor of the vegetables. The rich aroma of spices will increase your appetite! Once you try it, you'll be hooked.
Add the shop's signature "Masala Chai" to your lunch or set menu!
Among the many types of chai available, the shop's most recommended is the "Masala Chai" (600 yen). For an additional 418 yen, you can also get it as part of your lunch or set menu.
It is made using five types of spices (cloves, green cardamom, bay leaves, whole black pepper, and cinnamon) plus the occasional dash of ginger, which are crushed in a grinder and boiled, giving it a very fragrant flavor, which is apparently very popular.

Image: Honosuke
When I actually ordered it... it was true! The aroma of the blended spices was delicious. Like the "Hot Chai", this is also carefully made one cup at a time after the order is placed. It has a mild taste, but you can feel the spices as it goes down your throat, and it's an authentic flavor that is very delicious.

Image: Honosuke
A wide selection of single-item curries available too!
In addition to the set menu, curry and naan can also be ordered individually.
Of the many options, my husband's recommended combination is "Chicken Skin Curry" (880 yen) and "Half Cheese Naan" (365 yen).

Image: Honosuke
This onion and tomato based curry contains plenty of carefully prepared, plump chicken skin. It has a rich flavor packed with the delicious taste of chicken fat, and is blissful when eaten with rich cheese naan.
It's not just curry! We also have a wide selection of homemade side dishes.
We will also introduce the side dishes.
This is "Shrimp Biryani" (1,051 yen), an Indian curry pilaf made with a generous amount of large, plump shrimp.

Image: Honosuke
It wasn't too spicy, and the use of Japanese rice and the spring onions on top made it taste nostalgic, even though it was my first time eating it. The rich flavor of the spices was a nice accent to the bitterness of the green peppers. You can change it to basmati rice (Indica rice) for an additional 385 yen, so I'd like to try that next time.
Another must-try is the Nepalese dish "Momo" (550 yen), a dumpling dumpling with dough, filling, and sauce all made from scratch.

Image: Honosuke
The meat juices ooze out, so we recommend eating it with a spoon! The ingredients, which include minced chicken and pork and several types of hand-cut vegetables, have a curry spice flavor, and are very delicious even without sauce. You can enjoy a different flavor by pouring the creamy, slightly sour, and slightly spicy sauce over it.
This is "Papal" (350 yen), an Indian rice cracker made from beans that comes with the lunch and dinner set menus.

Image: Honosuke
It has a thin and light crispy texture. I was looking through the menu thinking, "I want to eat a lot of just papal," when I found it ♡ It has a strong salty taste and is delicious as it is, but I also recommend changing up the flavor with two types of sauce, chutney (the red one) and mint chutney (the green one).
By the way, it is also delicious to order it together with "Momo" and eat it with "Momo" sauce.
The "Fresh Spring Rolls" (605 yen) combine the chewy texture of rice paper, the crunchy texture of vegetables, and the spicy and juicy taste of tandoori chicken, creating an original flavor that you won't find anywhere else.

Image: Honosuke
The sauce used is the same as that used in Momo, which has a reputation for being addictive.
The "children's set" is also available, making it very popular with families.
We have kids' chairs and a kids' menu, so you can feel safe bringing children with you. Strollers are also allowed inside the restaurant.
There are two high chairs available for kids, so the whole family can enjoy meals at the same eye level.

Image: Honosuke
The "Children's Set" comes in three different varieties to suit different ages.

Image: Honosuke
My one-year-old son had the "Children's Curry" (440 yen/can be ordered for ages up to 5).

Image: Honosuke
It's a mild curry that even small children can easily eat. My son usually doesn't eat curry at home, but this was so delicious that he ate almost the whole thing!
It seems that many children, like my son, make their curry debut at Assis.
Point cards with discounts available
If you collect 15 stamps, you can get a points card that gives you a 300 yen discount on your next purchase.
During lunchtime, you will receive one stamp for every meal (excluding children's sets), and during dinnertime, you will receive one stamp for every 1,000 yen you spend over 1,000 yen.

Image: Honosuke
In addition to the delicious food, the service is polite and warm, making it a restaurant you'll want to visit again and again.
Both lunch and dinner are often fully booked, so we recommend making a reservation (reservations can be made by phone or online).
If you want to recharge your energy and spice, please come and visit us. (Text by Honosuke)
