Not just udon! A popular restaurant in Kitakyushu's Buzen Urauchikai district offers delicious hotpot and teppanyaki dishes

Hello. This is Chihi Log, a casual website that provides information about Fukuoka, with a focus on gourmet food.

This time, we will introduce a udon restaurant in Yahata Ward, Kitakyushu City that can also be used as an izakaya.

Udon restaurant by day, udon izakaya by night! "Udon Mangetsu" by the Buzen Urauchi Association (Chiyogasaki, Yahata Ward, Kitakyushu City)

"Udon Mangetsu" is located in the Honjo area. The restaurant celebrated its second anniversary in February 2025 and operates as a udon restaurant during the day and a udon izakaya at night.

At the "Buzen Urauchikai" restaurant, not only are the udon noodles and broth delicious, but the izakaya menu is also superb! I was so impressed when I first visited.

The restaurant has table seating, raised seating, sunken kotatsu seating and more, making it a relaxing space where you can come and relax.

"Mentaiko and Tororo Motsunabe" is a delicious udon soup base!

This time, I visited the restaurant in the evening as a udon izakaya. I'd like to introduce two dishes that surprised me with their deliciousness.

The first thing I noticed on the menu was the "Mentaiko Tororo Motsunabe" (1,990 yen per portion, minimum order is 2 people).

The soup is based on the udon dashi used at "Udon Mangetsu," which is made with Rausu kelp, dried bonito flakes, dried mackerel, dried round urume, and a specially made seasoning. I was excited even before eating, wondering, "What would a motsunabe made by a udon restaurant of the Buzen Urauchikai taste like?"

And this is what was brought to us.

The surface is covered with fluffy grated yam and is topped with plenty of Spicy Fish Eggs! It's a visual that you won't find anywhere else.

Ingredients include offal, konjac, cabbage, tofu, garlic, and chives.

The offal is made using only the small intestines of Japanese black beef, and is very soft and chewy. It doesn't have any particular flavor at all.

Although it contains a lot of Spicy Fish Eggs, the umami is more prominent than the spiciness, and it has a gentle and refined taste. The umami of the other ingredients is also well-blended, making it incredibly delicious!

The final menu items include "Rice with egg" (300 yen) and "Udon noodles" (300 yen), and I ordered the "Udon noodles" this time.

When the noodles were brought to me, they were so shiny and translucent that I thought they might be a little too clear!

"Udon Mangetsu" is also particular about the noodles they make, making the noodles thicker for hot udon to give it a better texture, and thinner for cold udon to make it easier to swallow.

Apparently, hot udon noodles are about three times thicker than cold udon noodles.

Being able to taste such carefully selected noodles as the final dish was fantastic! This was a motsunabe that could only be served at a udon restaurant.

"Mangetsu Special Teppanyaki" with plenty of domestic pork cutlets

Next up is the "Mangetsu Special Teppanyaki" (980 yen per portion, minimum order of 2 people). This is a popular menu item where you cook seasoned domestic pork cutlet and vegetables in a special sauce and finish it yourself. The special sauce is a blend of about 7 types of sauce based on udon dashi. It has a deep flavor with the taste of kelp and bonito.

It is filled with plenty of domestic pork belly and is very satisfying to eat.

Once the vegetables have softened, the flavors of each ingredient will be concentrated, making it even more irresistibly delicious!

You can also order the "Rice with Egg as a Finishing Dish" (300 yen) and top the rice with plenty of meat and vegetables, which is delicious!

You can also add toppings to your dish, such as "Wagyu Offal" (790 yen), "Itoshima Pork Belly" (790 yen), "Beef Sashimi" (1,090 yen), "Pork Sashimi" (590 yen), and "Additional Vegetables" (490 yen), and you can customize your dish however you like.
