This is the only place you can always buy them! Taikoyaki (Nishijin), a famous Japanese confectionery shop that sells 1,000 pieces a day
Hello. I'm Ucchi, and I turn into a girl when I see something delicious.
This time, we will introduce affordable and delicious Japanese sweets from a long-established Japanese sweets shop that is the only one that can be purchased at a permanent store!
Among the permanent stores, "Chikushi Kasho Josuian Nishijin Store" (Plariva) is popular for its freshly made Taikoyaki and original sweets that can only be found here.
"Chikushi Kasho Josuian" is a long-established Japanese confectionery shop that represents Fukuoka and sells popular products that everyone knows, such as "Chikushi Mochi" and "Josuian's Hakata Tottoto."
The Nishijin store is located on the basement floor of the Purariba shopping complex, which is directly connected to Nishijin Station on the Subway Airport Line.

The fragrant aroma of freshly baked goods wafts from the Nishijin store, whetting your appetite when you pass by. That's because in one corner of the store they have a live demonstration and sale of Kurodahan Taikoyaki!

This "Kuroda-han Taikoyaki" is a very popular product that sells over 1,000 pieces in a single day on a busy day! It is a product that has continued from the live sales that started at the store (now closed) in "Torias Hisayama" about 20 years ago, and currently it can only be purchased at this "Nishijin store" and the mobile "Taikoyaki Caravan" (which appears irregularly at events and stores). It is not something you can buy just anywhere.
The Nishijin store always sells four types. In addition to the standard "Black Bean Paste" (150 yen) and "White Bean Paste" (150 yen), limited-edition flavors are also available. Currently, they are "Custard Cream" (180 yen, April to September every year) and "Matcha Bean Paste" (limited to April 2025).
Other flavors you can enjoy each season include the spring-only "Sakura Bean Paste," the autumn-only "Chopped Chestnut (chopped chestnuts in black bean paste)," and "Sweet Potato Bean Paste" (180 yen, sold every October to March of the following year).

It is made with a focus on the ingredients, such as the "skin" made from carefully selected wheat flour and acacia honey, and the "black bean paste" made from adzuki beans grown in the Tokachi region of Hokkaido, exclusively from producers who use reduced amounts of pesticides.
When I visited, I was able to see them making it right in front of me. I was surprised at the amount of filling they put inside!

Now it's time to try the freshly baked bread!
This time, I tried four different flavors: black bean paste, white bean paste, sweet potato bean paste, and custard cream. I was told that the name "Taikoyaki" comes from the fact that it resembles the shape of a drum.

By the way, Kuroda-han Taikoyaki has a branding mark in addition to the white bean paste, and the branding mark for the black bean paste is based on the Fuji Tomoe motif, which is the family crest of the Kuroda family, the feudal lords of Fukuoka, and is also the corporate logo of Joshuian Co., Ltd.

Each one is so packed with bean paste that it comes flying out when you take a bite. As expected, the bean paste, which is made with great care, is very delicious!
The fragrant, fluffy, chewy and elastic skin had an addictive flavor.
The most popular of the limited-time flavors is "Sweet Potato Paste," which has a sticky sweet potato texture and just the right amount of sweetness that is irresistible.

There are also original sweets made using popular products from "Josuian"!
If you visit the Nishijin store, you should definitely try their original sweets.
The two cups are the "Taikoyaki Milk Soft" (450 yen), which is filled with flakes, warm "Kurodahan Taikoyaki", homemade black bean paste, and soft serve ice cream, and the "Chikushimachi Soft" (520 yen), which is filled with homemade black bean paste, three of their signature "Chikushimachi", soft serve ice cream topped with "Chikushimachi" kinako and brown syrup, and a monaka shell.

This time I received "Chikushima Mochi Soft".
Being able to enjoy "Chikushi Kasho Joshuian's" famous monaka wafers and "Chikushi mochi" together with Joshuian's homemade black bean paste, which is also used in the soft serve ice cream and taikoyaki...it's so luxurious!

It was very delicious, so please give it a try.

In addition, "Kurodahan Taiko Yaki" has a stamp rally card, and you get one stamp for every three "Taiko Yaki" you buy. When you collect five stamps, you can get one "Kurodahan Taiko Yaki" of your choice. Every Tuesday and on rainy days, you get double points.
It's great for your home, and also makes a great gift. Please come and visit us. (Text by Ucchi)
