This time, we will introduce you to a popular izakaya restaurant in Iizuka City that is very popular among locals.

Very popular with locals! A traditional Japanese-style izakaya restaurant, "Sumiyaki Sake Dokoro Koutan" (Iizuka City)

Sumiyaki Sake Shop Koutan is a hidden gem located just a six minute drive from JR Tendō Station on the Fukuhoku Yutaka Line, down a narrow road off National Route 200.

This izakaya restaurant has been in business for 23 years and serves authentic charcoal-grilled skewers and a wide variety of alcoholic drinks.

There is a parking lot for 20 cars in front of the store, and this sign is the landmark.

The building has an old-style Japanese house feel, giving it a charming atmosphere.

The interior of the restaurant is designed with the warmth of wood, creating a stylish and relaxing space.

It is a spacious restaurant with around 60 seats, including counter seats and private rooms.

It is possible to rent the entire venue, so it can be used for large banquets.

The specialty is authentic charcoal-grilled skewers!

If you come here, you should definitely try the "Kushimono" (skewers) (starting from 110 yen each), a specialty of "Sumiyaki Sakadokoro Kotan."

There are a whopping 28 kinds of original skewers, including yakitori, vegetable skewers, and bacon-wrapped skewers, all carefully grilled over charcoal! Simply scan the QR code on the menu with your smartphone to order.

Pork belly

Crispy grilled pork belly (165 yen per piece).

It's very juicy and goes great with alcohol.

Chicken skin

A must-order is the "Chicken Skin" (132 yen per piece).

The crispy chicken skin is soaked in the sweet and spicy sauce, creating an amazing taste.

Small baked sweet potato and sand grit

On the left are "Petit Yakimo" (154 yen each), and on the right are "Gizzards" (132 yen each).

The "Petit Yakiimo" skewers are small and cute ♡ They're a rare sight, but they're sweet and taste like a dessert ♪

The crunchy and chewy texture of "Gizzard" is addictive.

Thick fried tofu and homemade chicken meatballs with pork belly

The top is "thick fried tofu" (110 yen per piece), and the bottom is "homemade chicken meatballs with pork belly" (462 yen for two pieces).

The skewers of "thick fried tofu" are also quite unusual. The fragrantly grilled thick fried tofu and the sweet and spicy sauce are a real treat!

The "Homemade Chicken Meatballs with Pork Belly" are served with egg yolk. The crunchy texture of the pork belly adds an accent to the texture. Even one piece is satisfying.

Bacon-wrapped deep onion and tomato

On the left is "Deep Green Onion" (121 yen per stick), and on the right is "Bacon-wrapped Tomato" (220 yen per stick).

"Deep Green Onion" is sweet, soft and fragrant!

The "Bacon-wrapped Tomatoes" were a perfect combination of juicy tomatoes and crispy bacon.

Happy charcoal salad

The original salad named after the restaurant, "Kouchin Salad" (693 yen), has been the most popular since the restaurant opened.

The cabbage is topped with plenty of thinly sliced fried potatoes, adding a crunchy texture!

Deep fried fluffy egg

The dome-shaped omelet topped with sauce is a beautiful looking "Fried Fluffy Egg" (638 yen).

"Fried Natto Wrapped in Fried Tofu" (528 yen) is natto wrapped in fried tofu.

This original "Kotan" dish is the perfect match of natto and fried tofu.

Clam butter

"Clam Butter" (605 yen) is clams grilled in butter.

The flesh is plump and the flavor of the butter is just right.

Fried Horse Mackerel

Large "Fried Horse Mackerel" (880 yen) with homemade tartar sauce.

The batter is crispy and the horse mackerel is plump. It's freshly fried and piping hot, and it's even more delicious when dipped in tartar sauce.

Gomoku fried rice

"Gomoku fried rice" (748 yen) packed with ingredients.

The fried rice was rich in flavour and packed with ingredients such as eggs, carrots and green peppers, making it the perfect final dish!

There is a wide selection of shochu, sake, and wine, so even those who love alcohol are sure to be satisfied.

The banquet course is very reasonable, starting at 2,000 yen for 8 dishes! Furthermore, most of the menu items available in the restaurant are also available for takeout, so you can easily enjoy "Kotan at home."
