Once you try it, you'll be hooked! A popular Jiro-style ramen shop that welcomes first timers (Sawara Ward, Fukuoka City)
Hello! I'm Fukuoka Nyakki, a writer who enjoys discovering new food in and around Fukuoka city.
This time, we will introduce a Jiro-style ramen restaurant located in Iikura, Sawara Ward, Fukuoka City.
"Yume Mite Nanbo Fukuoka Main Branch" (Iikura, Sawara Ward, Fukuoka City) is a Jiro-style ramen shop beloved by locals that inherits the taste of "Yume wo Katare"
Yume Mite Nanbo Fukuoka Main Branch is a 5-minute walk from the Nishitetsu bus stop Arae Shikaku and a 1-minute walk from the Iikura 1-chome bus stop. After going through the "3-year rule" of the popular Jiro-style ramen shop Yume wo Katare (either close within 3 years or change the name), the store changed to its current name in March 2023.
The unique sign with its red background and white lettering that looks handwritten (or maybe is actually handwritten) is the landmark.

I entered the store, glancing at the large photo of ramen next to the entrance and a sign that read "First-time customers welcome."

Once inside, there is a ticket machine right in front of you.
The menu includes "Ramen," characterized by its punchy, rich soup and extra-thick noodles, as well as the side dish "Pork Bowl" (900 yen *mini also available for 500 yen) and toppings.
"Ramen" is color-coded with red for "large (300g noodles)," yellow for "medium (200g noodles)," and blue for "small (150g noodles)," and the price changes depending on the amount of pork char siu you choose - "1 slice," "2 slices," or "3 slices" (large: 1 slice 1,200 yen, 2 slices 1,400 yen, 3 slices 1,600 yen, medium: 1 slice 1,150 yen, 2 slices 1,350 yen, 3 slices 1,550 yen, small: 1 slice 1,100 yen, 2 slices 1,300 yen, 3 slices 1,500 yen). If you prefer "no soup," don't forget to get a "no soup change" ticket (0 yen).
The contents of "Topping A" (50 yen) and "Topping B" (100 yen) are written on the whiteboard above the ticket machine. If you want more than one topping, please purchase the appropriate number of toppings.

After buying your meal ticket and taking a seat (only at the counter), the first thing you notice are the numerous papers with what appear to be handwritten instructions.

There were also explanations on how to "call (order)." I was a bit nervous about having to follow the rules, but the staff kindly explained each step to me.

Thick and punchy soup and extra thick noodles! Try the ramen
As this was my first visit, I ordered a "Medium Ramen (200g noodles) with one pork slice" (1,150 yen) with the "basic" garlic, vegetables, and oil.
Luckily, there weren't many customers at the restaurant, so the bowl arrived in about 5 minutes. It was clearly filling, with plenty of bean sprouts, back fat, and eye-catching, thick slices of pork.

The noodles are "extra thick," a feature of Jiro-style ramen. They are chewy, and it's more like eating them than slurping them. The more you chew them, the tastier they become.

The Jiro-style pork is thick but tender and stewed so that it falls apart easily. It's the ultimate taste that's packed with deliciousness.

The soup is rich in pork fat and soy sauce. It is eaten with the garlic that comes with it, giving it a very punchy flavor. It goes very well with the extra thick noodles.

At first, I wondered if I could finish this amount, but there was no need to worry. The garlic soup acted as a boost and made me keep eating.
We also recommend the "soupless" ramen and the side dish "pork bowl"!
Another order.
I ordered the "Medium Ramen" with "1 piece of pork" (1,150 yen) and changed it to "soupless" (0 yen), and topped it with "mayonnaise" (50 yen) as recommended by the shop staff. The red color of the chili pepper is eye-catching.

There is sauce at the bottom, so make sure to mix it well.
When you pull out the noodles, they look like this. These are also very thick noodles, and look amazing! They have a strong flavor, but this time I added mayonnaise to make them a little milder. They're delicious and addictive.

When I was halfway through, I added a "raw egg" (100 yen). This was also recommended by the shop staff. Forget about the calories.

The addition of egg makes it even milder and sweeter, giving it a sweet and spicy flavor that will have you reaching for more.

I also ordered the "Mini Pork Bowl" (500 yen). It was topped with plenty of pork slices and charred back fat. It was the perfect side dish for the ramen.

There are also great value menus such as weekday lunchtime specials and the "Infinite Raw Eggs on Rice" available only to high school students. On the day we visited, the restaurant was bustling with high school students, many of whom had left work early.

The food is addictively delicious and leaves you feeling full, and the staff are cheerful and friendly.
It's no wonder it's so popular.

There is no parking lot at the store, but if you use the "NL Iikura No. 2 Parking Lot" across the street, you will receive a "100 yen service voucher" for the parking lot.
