[Yakuin Area Lunch] A popular restaurant with a hearty meal and exquisite menu created by a skilled chef (Fukuoka City)

2025.03.26

Hello! I'm Piroto, a gourmet tour guide in Fukuoka city.

This time, I'd like to introduce you to a hidden gem of a restaurant where you can enjoy a hearty, casual lunch that I, a food lover, have returned to many times!

I don't really want to tell you about it! A hidden gem where you can enjoy a delicious and filling lunch: "Japanese Bistro KIKI" (Takasago, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka)

Japanese Bistro KIKI opened in August 2024. It is located in Takasago 1-chome, about a 5-minute walk from the Nanakuma Subway Line and Nishitetsu Yakuin Station.

It's on the second floor of a multi-tenant building, so it's a hidden restaurant that can be a little intimidating to enter on your first visit. A red flag and a signboard with a menu are the landmarks.

I came across this restaurant when I happened to see this menu board while taking a walk.

"Wa Bistro" is run by a chef who has been practicing his skills in various genres such as Chinese, French and Japanese cuisine for about 40 years. It is open for lunch and dinner, and the main dish served at lunch is "Chef's Whimsical Lunch". At dinner time, you can enjoy a wide variety of creative dishes.

Enter the restaurant by climbing the stairs. The interior is chic, clean, and has a relaxed atmosphere. Most of the seating is at tables for two, but there is also a semi-private room surrounded by white walls.

This is a semi-private room. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy conversation.

It gets quite crowded with office workers on their lunch break during lunchtime, so if you want to have plenty of time to enjoy your meal, we recommend going on the weekend.

What caught my eye was a message of congratulations on the store's opening from Tamura Atsushi that was posted on the wall.

As I talked to him, I learned that Jun had worked as a part-timer at a restaurant previously run by the owner of "Wa Bistro KIKI". Jun has often introduced the owner's "Carbonara" on terrestrial TV programs as a "taste of memories from his youth". You can enjoy this carbonara for lunch as "Memorable Carbonara" (more on this later).

Comes with salad and soup! A hearty and satisfying "Whimsical Lunch"

Once seated, you order.

The "Whimsical Lunch" (1,200 yen) is available from 11:30 to 15:00 (last order 14:30). The lineup for this day was "Dry Curry Omelette Rice" and "Aquapazza Risotto". Both come with salad and soup, and you can add an after-drink (+100 yen or +200 yen).

Additionally, the aforementioned "Memory Carbonara Set (with salad and soup)" (1,480 yen) will be available only from 13:00 to 15:00 (last order 14:30).

The dessert "Relaxed Mini Parfait" (500 yen) is recommended for those who want to relax after lunch.

First, the salad and soup from the "Kimagure Lunch" arrived. The salad had a rich dressing with a hint of sourness and sweetness, and the generous amount of vegetables went down really well.

On this day, I had a mushroom consommé soup, which was easy to drink and had a comforting taste.

Next, we'll introduce the two main dishes for the day. This is the "Aquapazza Risotto," which is eye-catching with its vivid colors and variety of ingredients.

The flavorful tomato sauce and the rich but not heavy cheese risotto go perfectly together. The bite-sized pieces of white fish have a crumbly texture. The finely sprinkled lemon adds a sour accent to the dish.

Next is the popular "Dry Curry Omelette Rice" which is often featured on social media. The omelette rice is made of curry pilaf wrapped in a thin egg and topped with dry curry made with plenty of minced meat. It seems to be a popular item among the quirky lineup.

This dry curry has a mild and deep flavor, but still has a spicy taste, and is even more delicious when eaten with omurice! I think that even those who don't like spicy food will have no problem with the spiciness.

I also had an "iced coffee" (100 yen) as an after-drink.

It's nice to be able to relax with a drink after getting full!

Tamura Atsushi's memorable taste! Rich and special carbonara

And this is Atsushi Tamura's "taste of memories from his youth" "Memorable Carbonara Set (with salad and soup)" (1,480 yen). *Only available from 13:00 to 15:00 (last order 14:30)

A dish that will whet your appetite with a generous helping of carbonara sauce. The sauce is made by slowly infusing the noodles with the flavor, giving it a rich yet smooth taste. The balance of savory and salty is also exquisite.

You can also add a "Baguette" (200 yen). It looks delicious with the sauce...!

The menu changes on a whim, so it's an exciting place to wonder what kind of menu item you'll find next.

In addition, it is run by a married couple, and their personalities and friendly, courteous service are a major part of its appeal. Please do stop by. (Text by Pilot)
