Great value for money! An authentic Chinese lunch that only available on weekends (Kitakyushu City)
Hello. This is Chihi Log, a casual website that provides information about Fukuoka, with a focus on gourmet food.
This time, I'd like to introduce you to a great lunch that offers great value for money.
Reasonably priced yet authentic! Weekend-only hideaway lunch "Oichan's Kakureya Miyabi" (Yokodai Higashimachi, Kokuraminami Ward, Kitakyushu City)
"Oichan's Kakureya Miyabi" is located in Yokoshiro Higashi-cho, Kokuraminami-ku, Kitakyushu City, about a 7-minute walk from Nishitetsu bus stop Higashi-Ninada. It is located right next to Kokura Higashi IC, so it is convenient to go by car. There is also a free parking lot.
The store opened on July 6th, 2024, and is located in an exciting location that will make you say, "I didn't know there was a store here!"
Another noteworthy point is that it is only open on weekends, Saturdays and Sundays!
Once inside the store, there are counter seats and table seats.
A lunch menu is available during the day, and in the evening you can enjoy a Chinese course meal (starting from 5,500 yen, reservation required) with teppanyaki or a la carte dishes.
In fact, the owner is the second generation owner of "Taiheiraku," a popular Chinese restaurant in Shimonoseki that was founded 50 years ago. Before taking over the restaurant, he trained at various restaurants from Tokyo to Miyazaki.
Having experienced this, he realized that even if the same ingredients are used, the prices are completely different between a local Chinese restaurant and a famous Chinese restaurant, so when he opened his own new restaurant, he adopted the motto of "popular but authentic," and offered food that was just as tasty as that of high-end restaurants but also excellent value for money.
Reasonably priced yet with authentic flavors! Great value lunch menu
Lunch at Ochan's Kakureya Miyabi starts at 980 yen and offers a variety of dishes, from a choice of main course to grilled steaks on a hot plate.
This time I ordered the "Chuka Soba Set" (1,000 yen). The set includes Chinese noodles, two pieces of fried chicken, rice, salad, and a small bowl, and for an additional 300 yen you can change the rice to a small serving of fried rice. This time I changed it to a small serving of fried rice, so the photo shows the 1,300 yen set.
The main dish, Chinese noodles, is made with a chicken bone soup and a soy sauce sauce made from kelp.
The noodles are homemade, made using a noodle-making machine at Taiheiraku, with the flour mixture being adjusted to suit the dish.
The thin, shiny noodles go perfectly with the rich soup, creating a truly authentic flavor. It was so delicious that I was hooked.
The fried chicken is crispy, fragrant and juicy. What's great about it is that it comes with two pieces.
The salad and small side dishes came in a wooden box.
The small dishes are carefully prepared and served with a home-style flavor. On this day, the dish was egg salad, which was a delightful treat with a mild flavor and filling taste.
I could hear the sound of fried rice being cooked in the kitchen, and my expectations were rising. Although it was called a "small" size, it was a pleasantly large portion!
It was packed with ingredients and had a fragrant finish, and I was once again impressed by how delicious it was.
At lunch, they serve standard fried rice, but in the evening, you can enjoy a variety of fried rice dishes cooked on a teppanyaki grill, such as curry fried rice and black fried rice.
In the evening, they also serve Saga beef and Miyazaki beef, which they purchase directly, in a teppanyaki style for a reasonable price! The course menu includes elements of Japanese, Western and Chinese cuisine, from appetizers to dessert, so I would like to visit again on a special day.
Desserts are also available for sale next to the register! They change weekly, with desserts such as the "Fluffy Chiffon Cake" (200 yen each).
They are also sold in frozen vending machines! There is also a meat bun specialty store called "Nikuman no Honowa"
Another attraction is the attached meat bun specialty shop "Nikuman no Honowa."
Taiheiraku accepts orders for steamed meat buns about once or twice a year, and they have become so popular that they have even opened stores in department stores!
You can easily purchase this acclaimed flavor here as takeout.
The "Nikuman" (300 yen) is a soft and chewy bun filled with juicy, meaty filling!
Nikuman no Honowa is only open on weekends, but the meat buns are also sold in a frozen vending machine.
Please come and try their delicious lunch and steamed meat buns. (Text by CHIHIRO)
