Bring it as a gift and your reputation will skyrocket! A delicious seafood bowl that's "just like a dessert" (Kurume City)
Hello. I am Yorimichi, the owner of the blog "Yorimichi's Fukuoka Introduction," which introduces delicious restaurants in Fukuoka.
This time, we will introduce you to the "decorated sushi" that is all the rage in Kurume and is perfect as a souvenir!
Directly managed by a fresh fish wholesaler! "DECOSUSHI" is a sushi cake brand from "Sakanaya Uomasa," a takeaway fish specialty store (Kurume City)
We arrived at Tsufukuhonmachi in Kurume City.
Sakanaya Uomasa is a takeaway fish specialty store run by a popular fresh fish wholesaler. Next door is the sister seafood restaurant Uomasa (currently undergoing renovations from February to October 2025).
There are too many customers at lunchtime, so it might be better to go earlier.
The store is filled with a wide variety of attractive seafood products. They have a wide variety of items, including sashimi, simmered dishes (the "Tai no Araki" is especially popular), fried dishes, and salads. They even have frozen products and gift items.
The delicious fish is carefully selected by fish connoisseurs and then prepared by professional chefs, so the taste and quality are guaranteed.
The price is surprisingly reasonable, and they are so popular that they sell out before noon, and then restocks are sold out again.
Although it is such a popular restaurant, did you know that they also sell some very stylish sushi, a secret?
"DECOSUSHI" is sushi that looks like a dessert, born from the desire to make fish more delicious, more fun, and more familiar to people.
There are a variety of options available, including "Deco Maru" which looks like a whole cake (reservations must be made two days in advance, size 3 starts from 2,400 yen) and "Deco Inari" which looks like a mini crepe (starting from 230 yen).
All of them are so beautiful that they will get you excited! There are very few products that are permanently on display in the store unless you make a reservation, so it might be a good idea to call and check before you go.
It's like a dessert! A palm-sized seafood bowl
This time I purchased the "Cup Deco" (from 710 yen) and the "Souvenir Deco" (set of 3 for 1,740 yen).
Wow!
It's nice. I'm already satisfied with just the visuals.
First up is the beautifully decorated "Cup Deco" "Kaisen Korokoro" (850 yen) in the style of chirashi sushi. The cup fits in the palm of your hand, but it feels quite heavy.
That's nice, isn't it? I visited during the Christmas season, so the decorations were holiday themed.
The soy sauce jelly is placed underneath the sashimi, so it can be eaten as is without adding soy sauce, which is revolutionary.
It also prevents the common problem of putting too much soy sauce on seafood bowl, making it too salty towards the end.
I thought there might only be a little bit of seafood on the surface, but when I dug in I found there was a decent amount. I'm very sorry.
The soy sauce jelly is truly exquisite, and seafood lovers will love the taste.
If I lived nearby I'd go nine days a week.
Next is "Temiyage Deco" (set of 3, 1,740 yen). It is a set of sea bream, tuna, and salmon. It comes in a cake-like box, and looks just like a cupcake.
Arranging sashimi to resemble a rose is common in Japanese cuisine, but I'm impressed by the sense of using this traditional technique here.
This is "Salmon" (580 yen for a single serving).
It's so good, I want to keep eating it. It's thick and the amount of sashimi is satisfying.
By the way, the contents look like this.
It's like a scattered sushi, and the more you dig into it the more fun it gets.
The "Tuna" (630 yen for a single serving) looks so much like a red rose that it seems a shame to destroy it.
This is "Thai" (580 yen for a single item).
All the dishes are mildly seasoned so that even small children can eat them with peace of mind. With this price and quality, I would definitely buy again.
If you received this as a gift, your reputation would skyrocket. I'd also like to buy one as a reward for myself.
It was a very happy and filling lunch!
I plan on buying this whenever I want to eat seafood for a while.
Please give it a try. You can also order it online. (Text by Yorimitsu)
