The cream-filled choux pastries are a must-try! A sweets shop in Kurume Ichibangai that also has eat-in options
Hello. I am Yorimichi, the owner of the blog "Yorimichi's Fukuoka Introduction," which introduces delicious restaurants in Fukuoka.
This time, we will introduce you to some carefully crafted sweets shops that you should definitely stop by when you visit Kurume.
Eat-in or take-out is great! A sweets shop with a kids' space, "COLOMBE BLANCHE" (Kurume City)
Today we visited Ichibangai, the arcade shopping street that stretches from Nishitetsu Kurume Station.
Our destination is COLOMBE BLANCHE, which opened in January 2023, about an eight-minute walk from the station, on the side of the intersection at Hiyoshicho Police Box. Look for this sign.

This shop offers gluten-free sweets made with pesticide-free rice flour from Kyushu.

I thought it was a takeaway specialty store...

The second floor is a cafe space where you can eat in. Ordering is done on the first floor.

There is also a kids' space that is like a secret base.

What's more, the counter seats have power outlets and Wi-Fi, making it convenient for families or those wanting to stop by during a break from work.
Rice flour sweets made with carefully selected ingredients
In fact, this is probably the restaurant with the most particular tastes of all the restaurants I have introduced in the past, and they are ``using rice that suits the constitution of us Japanese people, and are researching every day so that you can experience the goodness of rice without using food additives.''

In addition to rice flour, the shop is also particular about its ingredients, using milk from dairy cows raised on grass and non-GMO feed, cane sugar from Kikaijima Island, eggs from free-range chickens, and organic chocolate, and sells cream puffs, doughnuts, cookies, tigres, bread, roll cakes, and more. The display case also features several types of rice flour shortcakes, including those made with seasonal fruits and raw chocolate.

I also found things like "Rice Flour Choux Rusk (with Seaweed and Salt)" (300 yen) and "Rice Flour Choux Ice Cream" (380 yen).

If my stomach allowed, I'd eat it all.
Another plus is that the price range is not particularly high.
To be honest, restaurants that specialize in organic and pesticide-free ingredients may seem a little pricey, but take a look at the menu.
This is the drink menu, which includes items under 500 yen, such as organic "Hot Coffee" (450 yen) and "Earl Grey (hot/iced)" (500 yen) made with Yakushima tea leaves.

There are also meal options such as the rice flour pizza "Shiso Margherita" (1,200 yen) baked in a pizza oven.

Let's try it!
This time I ordered the "Island Banana Shake" (650 yen), "Gluten-Free Donuts" (all types 350 yen), and "Rice Flour Cream Puffs" (420 yen).

First, let's start with the "Island Banana Shake," made with plenty of pesticide-free bananas from Okinawa Prefecture.
The rich, creamy taste spreads elegantly across your palate, and it's so satisfying. You can only taste the pure sweetness of the fruit.

Next up is the baked "Gluten-Free Donuts." There are five flavors: "Burnt Butter," "Yakushima Tea," "Earl Grey," "Coconut," and "Coconut & Cocoa."
They're just the right size and can be eaten without feeling guilty, which is a plus.

The size is about the size of a child's palm, and I, an adult man, could probably finish it in two bites.
This is "Coconut" made using organic coconut flower.

This is also very elegant.

I've had rice flour donuts elsewhere before, but the moistness of these donuts is unlike any I've had anywhere else.
If you give this to someone, I'm sure your stock will rise.
These are "Rice Flour Cream Puffs." They come in three flavors: "Plain," "Chocolate," and "Ogura An."
First of all, it looks cute.
The size is small, but it feels so big that it's hard to hold, so I thought I might try breaking it...

Wow, it's so good, it makes my heart flutter. I thought I was pushing the limits, the cream was overflowing! I thought I was going to drown.

It's not too sweet, and has a very creamy and milky flavor.
This custard cream is, of course, homemade and made without wheat flour or cornstarch, but instead using rice flour to give it a mellow finish.
It was a taste that felt "a cut above the rest."
Let's finish off with the "Ogura An Cream Puff" (420 yen).

Homemade red bean paste made from naturally grown red beans from Hokkaido and special cream made with rice flour is sandwiched between rice flour choux pastry.
The crunchy texture of the choux pastry and the gentle sweetness of the bean paste are irresistible...
This cream puff is definitely a must-buy if you go to Ichibangai.
