A must-try! The "Pork Cutlet Curry" that appears irregularly (Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City)

Hello! I'm Taiki Beef Curry, a curry fanatic who searches for delicious curry every day!

This time, we would like to introduce you to a delicious curry that appears irregularly at a curry restaurant in Kiyokawa, Fukuoka City.

Don't take your eyes off "All-you-can-eat curry"! "Curry and Sake Banyan"

About a 7-minute walk from Watanabedori Station on the Nanakuma Subway Line, "Curry and Sake Banyan" is located a little ways off the "Sun Road" shopping street in Kiyokawa.

The standard menu includes three types of curry, "All-you-can-eat curry," hot sandwiches, alcohol, soft drinks, and snacks. "All-you-can-eat curry" is a small amount of curry that is "all-you-can-eat" at the time, and once it runs out, it will be replaced with something else.

This is the drink menu.

What I was looking for was katsu curry, but it's not a standard menu item.

Katsu curry sometimes appears at "Aru Dake Curry." You can find it by checking the restaurant's Instagram.

You should try it at least once! The delicious "katsu curry"

Before introducing the Katsu Curry, let me digress a little.

I think that among the many types of curry, katsu curry is one of the most difficult dishes to make.

This is just my personal opinion, but when it comes to katsu curry at curry restaurants, I sometimes feel there is a lack of quality pork cutlet used, as well as the seasoning and frying method, and when it comes to katsu curry at pork cutlet restaurants, they may bring in top-quality pork cutlets, but the curry can feel too heavy and oily.

For a truly delicious katsu curry, the balance of pork cutlet, curry, rice, and side dishes (such as fukujinzuke) is very important.

Now, onto the main subject, the "Pork Cutlet Curry" (1,600 yen) that you should definitely try.

The pork cutlet curry at "Curry and Sake Banyan" is crunchy on the outside! The inside is moist and juicy, with a sweet fat taste, and the curry is not thick like most people's curry, but light. The curry has a refreshing fruity taste that does not interfere with the umami and fat of the pork cutlet.

Also, the curry gradually seeps into the tonkatsu batter, allowing you to enjoy it with just the right moistness.

It wasn't too spicy, but the aroma of spices added a nice balance between the pork cutlet and curry.

The texture of the cabbage on top is also an element that makes it delicious down to the last bite.

The crisp texture of the pickles and the fragrant aroma of nuts and beans enhance the deliciousness of the katsu curry.

By the way, the preparation of the katsu curry changes depending on the season.

The perfect accompaniment to the cutlet curry is the "Mother's Miso Soup" (150 yen) from the Aridake menu.

The dashi stock is effective and has a warming flavor. If it is on the menu, I would like you to try it together with this dish.

After your meal, try the Indian ice cream!

For dessert, we ordered "Shine Muscat and Kyoho Kulfi" (300 yen).

"Kulfi" is a sweet that is eaten in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and other countries. It is an ice cream made from milk or condensed milk, spices such as cardamom and saffron, and dried fruits and nuts. This shop changes ingredients depending on the season (currently they are serving a different kulfi than the one in the photo below).

You can have a hearty meal with the occasional cutlet curry, miso soup, and kulfi, or you can just drop in and enjoy some light alcohol and spicy snacks.

It's also a good place to stop by for a second meal, so be sure to try this curry as the final dish. (Text by Taiki Beef Curry)
