A popular cafe in Hakata Ward has been renovated! A new sweets shop that's perfect for souvenirs (Fukuoka City)
Hello. I'm ayu.latte, a writer who loves cafes so much that she has visited a total of 2,000 cafes.
This time, we will introduce a newly opened cafe in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City.
BUTTER UP, which will open in November 2024, will be renovated into a sweets shop where customers can also dine in! (Oobacho, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City)
"BUTTER UP" opened on November 1, 2024 in Ohiracho, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City.
Actually, this used to be a cafe called "alu" (see the article on "alu" here)From here)。
In order to allow more people to enjoy sweets, the shop has been renovated into a sweets shop that offers mainly take-out but also dine-in options. The menu, which was 6-7 items when it was "alu," has been increased to 19 items, from fresh sweets to baked goods.
Rather than sweets for special occasions, they aim to create sweets that people will want to eat on an everyday basis.
The store's name, "BUTTER UP," has two meanings: it literally means "to appease someone," and it also refers to the fact that butter is used in many of the sweets.
They make sweets that will make your day a little happier when you eat them.
The shop's doorknob is shaped like the letter "B". It's super cute ♡
A restaurant where you can enjoy both take-out and eat-in
With a few exceptions, most of the menu items at BUTTER UP are available for takeout.
The showcase is lined with many delicious looking sweets.
The first thing that caught my eye was the "Cookie Cream Puff" (take-out 378 yen / eat-in 385 yen). The crunchy cookie dough and the custard cream that is filled after you order make this an irresistible item!
This is a sweet that would make a great souvenir.
Other items on offer include the "Canelé" (takeout 270 yen / eat-in 275 yen), which is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, with the delicious aroma of fermented butter,
The menu includes the "Carrot Cake" (take-out 432 yen / eat-in 440 yen), which features a moist, baked carrot dough scented with spices and a perfect combination of sweet and sour cream cheese.
The eat-in space is accessed through a small entrance that feels like a secret hideout.
If you want to eat in, you first need to go outside the shop and enter through a small, secret base-like entrance on the right side of the building.
After climbing the narrow staircase, you will come to the second floor where there are tables and chairs.
The third floor is an eat-in space with sofa seats. It's nice to be able to choose seats depending on your mood and the number of people in your group.
Limited time only! A must-try dessert plate
One dish you definitely must try from the dine-in only menu available until Sunday, December 29, 2024 is the "Christmas Plate" (1,485 yen).
A luxurious plate with three types of sweets on one plate!
First up, strawberry shortcake!
Strawberries are sandwiched between soft, fluffy sponge cake and topped with rich fresh cream.
It was so soft that it melted in my mouth and was delicious.
Next was a chocolate pudding served with a spiced cookie in the shape of a gingerbread man, made with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves.
The pudding is very rich but not too sweet. It's stickier than it looks. It's so delicious that you won't be able to stop eating it!
And two bite-sized butter sandwich cookies.
The crispy cookies are sandwiched with butter cream containing rum raisins. The butter cream is rich but not too heavy and refreshing. It was delicious ♡
We also recommend the wide selection of classic sweets
We recommend not only the limited menu items but also the standard menu items! Let us introduce them to you.
Opera
"Opera" (takeout 648 yen / eat-in 660 yen) is a bitter, adult dessert with an exquisite balance of bittersweetness and sweetness.
The nutty dough is soaked in plenty of coffee syrup and layered with chocolate ganache and coffee butter cream.
Shortcake
The "Shortcake" (take-out 648 yen / eat-in 660 yen) uses seasonal fruits at the time. On this occasion, it was Shine Muscat.
*The "Shortcake" is currently being offered as part of the "Christmas Plate," so as of the publication date itis not being offered as a single item (it will reappear in January).
basque cheesecake
The "Basque Cheesecake" (takeout 594 yen / eat-in 605 yen) is made with a generous amount of cream cheese from Hokkaido, and has a deep, bittersweet top, with a gooey texture when you put a fork into it. It has a rich flavor. It's irresistible for cheesecake lovers.
Quiche
The "Quiche" (take-out 648 yen / eat-in 660 yen) is a very filling dish made with a crispy brisée crust and baked with plenty of seasonal ingredients! It's also perfect for when you're feeling a bit hungry.
On this day, it was packed with bacon, spinach, potatoes, and tomatoes.
Of course, you are also welcome to just come for a drink, and there are 12 different drinks on offer, including the shop's specialty coffee, tea, and homemade lemonade!
In the photo, on the left is "Lemonade" (takeout 453 yen / eat-in 462 yen), and on the right is "Iced Earl Grey" (takeout 486 yen / eat-in 495 yen).
