More meat than rice?! A delicious keema curry highly praised by enthusiasts (Shirogane, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City)
Hello! I'm Taiki Beef Curry, a curry fanatic who searches for delicious curry every day!
This time, we will introduce you to an exquisite curry that you should try at least once, located about a 10-minute walk from Yakuin Station on the Nishitetsu/Subway Nanakuma Line!
An Italian chef makes a surprising transition to a curry restaurant! "Curry Kinoshita" (Shirokane, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka)
The restaurant we will introduce this time is "Curry Kinoshita" located in Shirokane, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City.
It was founded in 2000 as an Italian restaurant called "Foodie's Ricetta" in Kego, Chuo Ward, and moved to its current location in Shirokane in 2011 and began operating as "Ristorante Kinoshita."
When they started serving curry for lunch in the spring of 2018, it was very well received and the number of customers coming for the curry increased rapidly, so in August 2018, the restaurant changed its name to "Curry Kinoshita".
Lunchtime dishes change weekly! Dinnertime dishes include five classic dishes
On this day, I visited for lunch because my favorite keema curry was being served at lunchtime as part of a weekly special (it's also available any time for dinner).
The photo below shows the lunchtime menu on a certain day. There is only one type of curry available at lunchtime, which changes weekly. You can get a "large serving" for +200 yen, a "little serving" for +150 yen, a "super spicy" for +100 yen, and an "extra spicy" for +100 yen (prices current as of December 2024. The prices of the large serving and little serving may differ from those in the photo taken at the time of the interview).
You can also enjoy desserts made with the techniques you'd expect from a former Italian chef, so be sure to try them.
During dinner time, there are about five types of curry available, such as "Double (Chicken and Pork) Keema Curry" (1,300 yen), "Spicy Chicken Curry" (1,100 yen), and "Pork Vindaloo" (1,350 yen), as well as appetizer-like side dishes.
Recommended by enthusiasts! The exquisite "Double Keema Curry" made by an Italian chef!
My favorite curry is the "Double (chicken and pork) Keema Curry" (1,300 yen).
On top of the hard-cooked rice is a generous serving of keema, almost to the point that it seems like there is the same amount as the rice? Or even more?
It is also served with onion achar (Indian pickle).
It's a dry type of keema curry, with no liquid and giving you a strong feeling of eating meat.
The moist texture of the minced chicken is complemented by the fattiness of the minced pork and its sweetness and umami.
It has a hearty meaty flavor and a wonderful aroma with a strong hint of spice.
Not only is the meat delicious, it has no unpleasant odor and is made with spices and herbs, and I think it is carefully prepared and cooked. Is this also an Italian cooking technique?
This is a keema curry that you can tell has been carefully made over a long period of time.
It's not too spicy, so if you like it spicy, we recommend the "super spicy" option (+100 yen).
And an important character is the onion achar.
Some restaurants have a strong freshness and spiciness from the onions, but the onion achar at Curry Kinoshita makes use of the natural sweetness of the onion and is so refreshing that you can eat it on its own.
It's so delicious that it's no wonder they offer a menu item called "Extra Acha" (+100 yen).
The onion achar makes the keema curry taste even better.
Desserts made by an Italian chef are also a must!
If you visit Curry Kinoshita, be sure to try the desserts as well.
There are about five varieties, and my favorite is the "Bitter Pudding" (380 yen).
This is a classic, firm pudding with a good balance of egginess and creaminess, enhanced by dark, bitter caramel.
There are many types of keema curry on the market, but Curry Kinoshita's Double Keema Curry is my favorite out of all the keema curries I have eaten.
Please enjoy this meaty yet gentle curry that reflects the chef's personality! (Text by Taiki Beef Curry)
