[Mojiko] A must-visit! A delicious sweets cafe (Kitakyushu) with "popular cookies from around the country"
Hello♪ I'm Nanami, a writer who loves hot drinks and delicious sweets.
This time, we will introduce some popular shops in the Mojiko area of Kitakyushu, a popular tourist destination.
The natural sweetness that brings out the flavor of the ingredients is what makes it so appealing ♡ Cafe and baked goods shop "bion" (Nishikaigan, Moji Ward, Kitakyushu City)
About a five minute walk from JR Mojiko Station is the stylish cafe and baked goods shop "bion," with its gold signboard.
The store offers a variety of naturally sweet French pastries, made with delicious Japanese ingredients such as domestic wheat, whole wheat flour, cultured butter, fruit, and herbs.
The first thing you see when you enter the store is a lovely cookie tin featuring the store's logo and an illustration of a nun.
You can make a reservation and purchase it on the online store, but it is so popular that orders are constantly coming in from all over the country. It is also available once a month at the "DEAN & DELUCA Fukuoka Store" and "DEAN & DELUCA AMU Plaza Hakata Store". Check the official Instagram (@bion.kiyomi) for the timing of sales ♪
Next to it are small packets of cookies lined up along with antique miscellaneous items.
Opposite the cookies is a display case filled with cakes, muffins, and more.
There is also a cafe space with three counter seats bathed in soft light.
There is also a table for four surrounded by lovely miscellaneous goods.
"Dessert Plate" where you can enjoy beautiful sweets that are like works of art
We enjoyed delicious sweets in a beautiful space where time passed peacefully.
This time I ordered the beautifully decorated "Dessert Plate" (1,650 yen).
The set includes your choice of "your favorite cake," "small sweets," and "drink" from the display case.
*The lineup of "cakes" and "small sweets" changes depending on the season, so please check the official Instagram.
For cake, I chose the limited-edition "Japanese Chestnut Mont Blanc with Chestnut Skins Made with Yamanaka Farm Chestnuts" (756 yen for a single serving)♪ *If you choose a limited-edition cake, the price of the dessert set will be an additional 110 yen
From the top, it is made up of a rich marron cream made with Japanese chestnuts, chantilly, chestnuts boiled in their skins, and at the very bottom is a light and fluffy biscuit dough.
The natural sweetness and flavor of Japanese chestnuts are condensed, making it deeply delicious. It's clear that no unnecessary ingredients are used. It has a light and gentle texture, and all the parts melt softly in your mouth.
Next, for the "small sweets" you can choose one from four types: "mini parfait with homemade ice cream," "scone or jam and butter sandwich scone," "your favorite muffin," or "today's sweets."
I chose the "Homemade Lemon Jam and Butter Sandwich Scone" (486 yen each).
I was surprised at how delicious the homemade lemon jam was! It's made from pesticide-free lemons and is a marmalade-like jam. Even though it's made with the lemon peel, it's not at all sour or bitter.
The scones are made without eggs, and are light and rich in flavor thanks to the mascarpone and milk. They are crispy and have a delicious flour taste.
The butter used is "Takachiho Fermented Butter (unsalted)". It's incredibly delicious how it blends smoothly with the other ingredients in your mouth...! Even though it was sandwiched thickly, it wasn't heavy at all.
Finally, you can choose a drink from either a hot drink or a cold drink.
There are four types of "hot drinks": "Original Blend Coffee", "Kajihara Tea Japanese Black Tea", "Ogami Farm Herbal Tea", and "Cafe au Lait". * "Cafe au Lait" costs an additional 110 yen for the dessert set.
There are four types of cold drinks available: "Organic Coffee," "Today's Tea," "Apple Juice," and "Red and White Table Wine."
From the "Hot Drinks" menu, I chose "Kajihara Tea Japanese Black Tea."
It had a nice, refreshing aroma, and even when eaten with sweets it wasn't too strong, giving it a comforting, soothing flavor.
There is another cafe menu item, the "Dessert Set" (1,320 yen), which is a set that allows you to choose your favorite cake and drink.
You can make reservations for the cafe online, so we recommend making a reservation on weekends, especially when it gets busy.
If you want to enjoy both cake and baked goods, be sure to order the "Dessert Plate" ♡
"Fruit tart" made with seasonal fruits and the ever-popular "Basque cheesecake" and "Fabreton"
Many people not only visit the cafe, but also stop by the shop to buy sweets to take away. I also bought three popular types of cakes as souvenirs for my family.
Fruit tart
This is the beautifully presented "Fruit Tart" (604 yen) made with seasonal fruits.
When I visited at the end of October, tarts made with Shine Muscat grapes, pears, and persimmons were lined up in the showcase. This tart is made with Shine Muscat grapes and pears.
The tart was crispy and the creme d'amandes had a gentle, rich flavor. It was lighter than you'd think, considering how creamy it looked. It was topped with plenty of juicy fruit, and the balance between the gentle sweetness of the tart and the sweet and sour taste of the fruit was just right, making it very delicious.
basque cheesecake
Next up is the ever-popular "Basque Cheesecake" (648 yen), which is baked moist using rich Kyushu fresh cream and cream cheese.
The outside is cooked through and has a crumbly texture, while the inside is creamy. It's gluten-free, so it melts in your mouth very smoothly.
The harmony of the gentle sweetness and the bitterness of the burnt parts is truly delicious, making this a highly recommended cheesecake.
Fabreton
This is a regional French dessert called "Fabreton" (540 yen).
It has a gentle sweetness like pudding and a chewy texture. It is stuffed with chunks of prunes and fig, giving it a nice sweet and sour taste.
It's a dish that you'll want to savor slowly with a hot drink.
Great as a gift! Simple and delicious cookies
In addition to cookie tins, "bion" also has a wide variety of small cookies in cute wrapping, making them a great gift idea.
Salted butter sable
This is the shop's most popular item, the Salted Butter Sable (432 yen, 2 pieces).
It's light and crispy with a crumbly texture. The sable itself is not too sweet, and the sugar on the side adds a nice balance of sweetness.
The cultured butter is fragrant and rich in flavor. The salt adds a nice kick, creating an endless loop of sweet and salty flavors that will have you coming back for more.
Butter Cookie Chocolate
"Butter Cookie Chocolat" (432 yen, pack of 4) made only with flour, cultured butter, sugar, and eggs.
The crispy dough fills your mouth with a rich buttery aroma and gentle sweetness the more you chew it. It also looks irresistibly cute.
Bion's sweets are carefully made with carefully selected ingredients. It's a wonderful shop where you can feel the change of seasons whenever you visit. Please be sure to stop by. (Text by Nanami)
