Cheese-filled naan is a blissful taste! Try it once and you'll be a fan of Indian curry (Koga City)
Hello, I'm Yuzu, a writer exploring Fukuoka's gourmet food.
This time, we will introduce Kokochian, a traditional Japanese restaurant in Koga City, Fukuoka Prefecture, where you can enjoy authentic curry.
A hidden curry restaurant with a retro Showa-era feel: Kokochian (Koga City)
"Kokojian" is about 40 minutes by car from Fukuoka city and 15 minutes by car from JR Koga Station. There is a parking lot on the premises.
If you use public transportation, take the Nishitetsu bus from Koga Station to Shimogono for about 25 minutes, then walk for a few minutes to arrive.
This is a restaurant located in a renovated old house built in 1937.
Located deep inside a village at the foot of the mountain, it feels like a hideaway. Inside the restaurant, the hearth, earthen transom, and tokonoma alcove remain, creating a retro Showa-era atmosphere.
Enjoy authentic Indian curry in a traditional Japanese house!
At Kokojian, which feels like a time warp to the Showa era, you can enjoy naan baked in a tandoor oven and authentic Indian curry.
There are four types of curry: "Chicken Curry", "Keema Curry", "Vegetable Curry" and "Shrimp Curry" (each type of curry roux is 840 yen). You can choose the spiciness.
This time I ordered two types of curry and two types of naan.
Let me introduce it to you right away.
Chicken curry
The "Chicken Curry" (840 yen) is an exquisite blend of spices, with a rich, full-bodied yet mild flavor.
The chicken cooked in the tandoor oven has a savory aroma that stands out, and the flavor deepens with each bite.
Vegetable curry
"Vegetable Curry" (840 yen) is a nutritious dish. The umami of the vegetables matches the spiciness of the curry. The sweetness of the vegetables wraps the whole curry in a mellow way.
Cheese Naan
"Cheese Naan" (850 yen), stuffed with plenty of melted cheese, is a specialty of "Kogojian."
The aroma of butter fills the air, and the crispy exterior and melted cheese combine to create a blissful taste. The salty and sweet taste of the cheese is in perfect balance, and once you try it, you'll never forget it!
We also have "Mini Cheese Naan" (650 yen).
Plain naan
The "Plain Naan" (400 yen) is surprising in its size and fillingness. It has a chewy softness, yet a firm texture. The sweetness of the naan itself brings out the spice of the curry even more. It's simple, but once you try it, you'll be hooked on its deliciousness.
In addition to single orders, there are also set menus available, such as the "A Set" (1,300 yen) which comes with naan or rice, a choice of curry, and salad, and you can also add drinks and ice cream to the set.
There are also a variety of side dishes available, such as "Chicken Tikka" (3 pieces for 600 yen) and "Pangura (gizzard shad)" (600 yen). Take-out is also available.
A relaxing space where the atmosphere of an old-fashioned house and authentic curry come together. Please come and visit. (Text by Yuzu)
