[Tosu Cafe] I really want to keep it a secret! A stylish space in a historic garden (Saga Prefecture)

Hello. I'm Yuri and I love stylish cafes.

This time, we will introduce you to some noteworthy cafes in Tosu City, Saga Prefecture that are worth making the effort to visit.

Opening in April 2024! "at the MARQUEE" is a hideaway cafe for adults with an attractive garden that dates back to the Edo period (Tosu City, Saga Prefecture)

Located about 40 minutes by car from Fukuoka city and 10 minutes by car from Tosu Premium Outlets, "at the MARQUEE" opened on April 26, 2024.

This cafe is planned and operated by Ryojin Dress Closet, which rents and photographs wedding attire, coming-of-age furisode, and Shichi-Go-San ceremonies. It is quietly located at the back of a garden that has remained since the Edo period.

It is only open on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 14:00 to 22:00 (last orders 21:30), but one of its attractions is that it can be used as a cafe in the evenings.

If you arrive before opening time, the first thing you should check is the numbered ticket left in the parking lot.

This is necessary to get a seat as soon as the restaurant opens. There are 11 tickets, and each group takes one. They seem to be available from around 1:00 p.m. I arrived around 1:30 p.m. and was able to get the first numbered ticket, but the restaurant was full as soon as it opened (2:00 p.m.).

Judging from the license plate numbers, the place was full of customers who had come from far away.

It gets especially crowded on weekends, but please note that reservations are not possible.

To get to the cafe, go through the curtain on the left in the photo below.

Cute and delicious! Affordable sweets and drinks

Ordering is done via a self-ordering system using smartphones.

This time I ordered four dishes.

At the MARQUEE: Premium Uji matcha and brown sugar jelly frappes, large and delicious puddings, brulee cheesecake, and hot cafe mocha

The "Big and Delicious Pudding" (580 yen) has a unique look with a generous amount of fresh cream on top. It is made with a generous amount of vanilla beans from Madagascar.

The pudding has a firm, heavy texture and is not overly sweet.

The caramel has a slightly bitter, mature taste, and the generous amount of fresh cream balances the sweetness just right.

The diced almonds on top of the cream add a crunchy texture and are a nice accent.

We also recommend the "Brulée Cheesecake" (680 yen).

At the MARQUEE Brulee Cheesecake

A unique cheesecake with a brulee surface.

The cheese part is incredibly smooth and has a great texture, contrasting nicely with the crispy brulee part.

The cheese itself had a mild flavor and was very easy to eat, so it was a big hit with children.

This is a luxurious drink that combines matcha and jelly made with Okinawan brown sugar, called the "Uji Matcha and Brown Sugar Jelly Frappe" (720 yen). It matches perfectly with the garden atmosphere that can be seen from inside the store!

This is the highest quality Uji matcha blended exclusively for At the Marquee by Kitagawa Hanbei Shoten, a tea wholesaler in Uji, Kyoto that has been in business for over 150 years.

The overall taste was not too sweet and elegant, with a perfect balance of the rich matcha flavor, ice cream, and brown sugar jelly.

And finally, "Hot Cafe Mocha" (650 yen).

It starts off sweet and fluffy, then the rich coffee flavor gradually develops and it's delicious.

The sweets may sell out by the evening, so if there's a particular sweet you're looking for, we recommend coming early.

The garden is lit up after the sun goes down, so next time I'd like to go at night.

Why not try spending some time in style and soul-filling time? (Text by Yuri-chan)
