A delicious and uplifting "reward" lunch! A stylish cafe in a long-established hotel (Kitakyushu City)
Hello! I'm Momo, and I'm touring fun and delicious spots in Fukuoka!
This time, I went to Nishihonmachi, Yahata-ku, Kitakyushu City. I went to Dining Cafe Chigusa, where you can casually enjoy a hotel lunch.
Made with a secret recipe from a long-established hotel! Dining Cafe Chigusa (Nishihonmachi, Yahata ku, Kitakyushu City), popular for its Western-style lunch
Located a 3-minute drive from JR Kagoshima Main Line Yahata Station, the long-established Chigusa Hotel will celebrate its 110th anniversary in 2024.
Located next to the lobby on the first floor is Dining Cafe Chigusa. It is loved by locals for its wide range of menu options, from Western cuisine made using secret recipes unique to the hotel, to dishes incorporating French and Japanese cuisine.
The interior of the store is a stylish space surrounded by murals by artist Egami Keita.
You can enjoy a relaxing time while enjoying the view of the courtyard through the large windows that let in plenty of light.
Among the tables, there is a replica of the "Old Yahata City Aerial View (Yahata Ward)" from 1933 (Showa 8). It also depicts the Chigusa Hotel's predecessor, Ryotei Chigusa. This is something you can only find in a historic hotel. It was fun to look at it while waiting for the food.
Enjoy the special taste! The very popular hamburger steak and pasta
Lunch from 11:00 to 15:00 (last order 14:00) is very popular here.
In addition to standard menu items such as the "Traditional Chigusa Original Beef Curry" (salad buffet included, 2,035 yen), which has been simmered for over 15 hours and has remained the same for 45 years, the juicy and crispy "Thick-Sliced Pork Cutlet with Demi-Glace Sauce" (salad buffet, bread or rice included, 2,310 yen), and the "Grilled Beef Loin Steak" (salad buffet, bread or rice included, 2,420 yen), which is a large steak piled on top, you can also enjoy the monthly "Chef's Lunch" (2,035 yen) and two types of "Pasta Lunch of the Month" (1,925 yen).
This time, we tried the "Shiso Grated Hamburger" (2,200 yen) and "Chigusa Special Original Bolognese" (1,925 yen), which are said to be particularly popular among the standard menu items.
The "Shiso Oroshi Hamburger" comes with a salad buffet and bread or rice.
When the dish was brought to me, the first thing that surprised me was the overwhelming presence of the shiso leaves! The chef chose this amount of shiso leaves because he wanted the hamburger steak to be enjoyed with the leaves until the last bite.
There were three types of sauce to choose from: original sauce, Japonaise sauce, and demi-glace sauce.
This time I chose the original sauce, which was described as "a sauce made by marinating whole roasted onions and letting them mature."
The hamburger steak is made from domestic beef and Nanshu pork, and is very meaty and satisfying.
The sweetness of the onion in the sauce, combined with the generous amount of shiso leaves and grated daikon radish, creates an exquisite balance. It was so delicious! And the shiso leaves were still there until the last bite.
This is "Chigusa's Special Original Bolognese." It comes with a salad buffet, bread, and a soft drink.
The sauce is made with a generous amount of ground beef, pork collagen, celery, onion, fresh cream, butter, chicken stock, and dried soybeans to add texture, and is simmered for over 10 hours. It was a very satisfying dish.
The salad buffet includes a variety of fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits from Fukuoka Prefecture, including hydroponic lettuce "Uruoi Yasai" (moisturizing vegetables) from Wakamatsu Ward, Kitakyushu City. You can also enjoy the chef's homemade spicy bean sprout namul, which changes daily.
There are four types of dressings: non-oil onion dressing, red onion dressing, tomato dressing, and Caesar dressing.
We also enjoyed the fried lotus root, fried croutons, fried onions and bacon toppings.
The salad buffet that comes with the lunch set is incredibly filling and delicious.
Also, if you order lunch, you can add a "mini dessert plate" for an additional 385 yen.
By the way, the straws for the drinks are made from bamboo, a natural material that is environmentally friendly from the perspective of the SDGs.
Lunchtime at Dining Cafe Chigusa was a luxurious experience that felt like a break from everyday life.
The chef's recommended "Chef's Lunch" and two types of "Pasta Lunch" are introduced on Instagram and the website from time to time. Please come and try them out. (Text by Momo)
