One of the most popular ramen in Kitakyushu! A delicious shop serving creamy, rich pork bone soup (Uomachi, Kokurakita Ward)
Hello. I'm Momo and I love to eat.
This time, we will introduce the Uomachi branch of one of Kitakyushu's most famous ramen restaurants.
A must-try for tonkotsu lovers! Enjoy ramen from a long-established ramen shop in the city at Gyorantei Uomachi (Uomachi, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City)
Gyorantei Uomachi branch is a 3-minute walk from Heiwadori Station on the Kitakyushu Monorail.
Founded in 1946, Gyorantei is a long-established, famous restaurant that is still loved by many people, having won first place in the Kitakyushu Ramen category in Tabelog's "100 Best Ramen Restaurants" for two years in 2017 and 2018. The main store is located in Saburomaru, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City. In September 2024, they also opened a store in Daimyo, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City.
The Uomachi store is so popular that there are often lines at lunchtime! Look for the large green shop curtain and flag.
First, purchase a meal ticket from the ticket machine in front of the store.
The Uomachi store is a small shop with about 10 counter seats inside. Although the number of seats is small, the turnover is fast so your turn will come around in no time.
Choose your favorite flavor! "100%," "28%," and "36%" rich pork bone ramen
The specialty of this restaurant is its rich "do tonkotsu" soup made from 100% domestic pork knuckles.
There are about 10 different items on the menu, including the classic "Juwari Ramen" (800 yen) that has been passed down since the restaurant first opened, and the most popular "Ajitama Ramen" (950 yen).
This time I had the "Nihachi Ramen (thin noodles)" (800 yen).
While the "Juwari Ramen" is a rich ramen made from 100% pork bones, the "Nihachi Ramen" is made from 20% chicken bones and 80% pork bones, making it a little lighter than the Juwari ramen. It is a popular menu item at Gyorantei that is just as good as the Juwari ramen.
For the "100% 100% Ramen", you can choose the thickness of the noodles (medium thick or thin) and the firmness.
You can also add "Set A (small rice + 2 pieces of fried chicken)" (+200 yen) or "Set B (half fried rice + 2 pieces of fried chicken)" (+400 yen) to the set menu (the photo below is of the single item).
First, let's start with the ramen soup. It is a double soup made from rich pork bones and chicken bones, and has a light yet deep flavor and aroma!
It has absolutely no unpleasant smell or roughness, and is so delicious you'll want to drink up the entire soup.
The straight, thin noodles go perfectly with the pork bone soup! They go down smoothly and mix well with the soup.
You can also order a "replacement bowl" (+180 yen) or a "half-replacement bowl" (+100 yen) ♪
And the thick slices of pork make a big impact! Braised in a sweet and spicy sauce, the pork is super soft and delicious. It's thick, so even just one slice is satisfying.
There is white pepper powder and white sesame seeds on the table, so you can add your own toppings.
The specialty! "Doro Ramen" with a thick, foamy soup
Another popular menu item is "Doro Ramen" (900 yen)! It is a "foamy" soup made using a unique method.
The bowl filled with pure white foam makes a big impact! This time, I ordered the "C Set (half fried rice)" (plus 350 yen).
The medium-thick, firm noodles are made from a unique blend of flour and are the perfect match for the thick, foamy soup!
As you eat it, the white back fat topping melts, giving the ramen a deeper flavor, making it truly delicious. It's one of a kind.
The fried rice in the set contains ingredients such as eggs and roast pork, and is lightly seasoned and fluffy. This was also a delicious dish not to be missed.
Be sure to try the ramen at Gyorantei, which is synonymous with Kitakyushu ramen! (Text by momo)
