[Kokura] The most popular restaurant for enthusiasts! Exquisite curry that follows the tradition of a famous restaurant that everyone knows (Kitakyushu City)
Hello! We are Taiki Beef Curry, and we are always searching for delicious curry!
This time, we will introduce you to an Indian curry restaurant that has been loved for many years in Kitakyushu City!
Enjoy authentic Indian curry! "Ganesha" established in 1988 (Uomachi, Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu City)
Ganesha is an 8-minute walk from JR Kokura Station, located on the first floor of a building along Uomachi Gintengai in Uomachi, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City. Founded in 1988, it is one of the oldest curry restaurants in Kitakyushu, following Curry no Ryu, which was founded in 1963, and E-ton, which was founded in 1979.
Ganesha's roots can be traced back to Delhi, a famous restaurant in Ueno, Tokyo, which popularized Indian curry culture in Japan.
When the founder of "Delhi" was working for a trading company, he wanted to introduce the taste of Indian home cooking to Japan, so he incorporated Japanese elements to suit Japanese tastes and created the curry of "Delhi". The owner of this famous restaurant trained there and opened "Ganesha" in Kokura.
"Ganesha" is famous for its super spicy "Kashmir Curry" (970 yen). Apparently, when the owner was working at "Delhi", this dish was created in response to requests from customers who said, "I want to eat a spicier curry!"
Ganesha offers nine types of curry, with a choice of rice or naan. Naan is carefully baked one by one in a tandoor oven after an order is placed. The rice is cooked on the firmer side to make it taste better with the Japanese rice and curry.
There are also set menus that combine your favorite curry with "Bhatura (fried naan)," "Samosa (Indian vegetable croquette)," "Tandoori chicken," and more.
By the way, the "A Set" includes your choice of curry (with rice or naan), salad, two samosas, bhatura, and lassi for 1,480 yen. I think it's quite reasonable!
You'll be hooked! "Keema Curry" made over a long period of time
The "Keema Curry" (940 yen) here is amazing.
When I used to live in Kitakyushu, the curry restaurant I frequented the most was "Ganesha," and the curry I ate the most was this "Keema Curry." That's how attached I am to this curry.
The chicken broth has been simmered for over four hours, and the flavors of the vegetables and the aroma and sweetness of the onions that have been sauteed for a long time until they are caramelized blend together to create a deep, rich flavor.
The delicious flavor of the tender minced chicken that has absorbed the soup fills your mouth.
Spices such as cardamom and cloves are at the core of this flavor.
The naan is also very good, but I almost always choose rice.
The popularity of Indian curry in Japan was undoubtedly due to the existence of Japanese rice.
This trend started when sweeter varieties of Japanese rice became available on the market following the revision of the Food Control Law in 1982. It is said that the sweetness of Japanese rice was a perfect match with the spiciness and rich spices of Indian curry, as well as garlic and onions.
Ganesha also uses domestically produced rice, and the firm rice is cooked with special care, making it a perfect match for curry.
Please come and visit Ganesha, which has been loved in Kitakyushu for over 30 years. (Text by Taiki Beef Curry)
