A panoramic view of the Nakasu nightscape! A popular motsunabe restaurant with a wide variety of Spicy Fish Eggs dishes (Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City)
Hello. This is Chihi Log, a casual website that provides information about Fukuoka, with a focus on gourmet food.
This time, we will introduce you to a wonderful shop located in Haruyoshi, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City.
Enjoy a panoramic view of the Fukuoka city nightscape! Hakata Spicy Fish Eggs Kikutake (Haruyoshi, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka) is a motsunabe specialty restaurant with a wide variety of Hakata cod roe dishes
Hakata Motsunabe Kikutake, a motsunabe specialty restaurant, opened on May 15, 2024. It is located about a 10-minute walk from Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station and about a 7-minute walk from Tenjin Minami Station or Kushida Jinja-mae Station on the Nanakuma Subway Line.
Located on the 6th floor of the Heisuke Fukidokodo Building, the restaurant has an all-glass interior offering a panoramic view.
It opens in the evening, so you can enjoy the changing scenery from dusk to the night view.
The night view is especially beautiful and mesmerizing! Depending on your seat, you can get a panoramic view of Canal City and the Naka River.
I was a bit nervous about this place because of its location and luxurious atmosphere, but when I actually got there, I found it to have a very homey atmosphere. The staff were very warm and welcoming, and I felt very comfortable.
I was impressed not only by his passion for cooking, but also by his attention to detail.
From here, I will introduce the menu we had this time.
From motsunabe to a la carte dishes, everything you eat is delicious!
Motsunabe "Mentaiko Miso"
Let's start with the restaurant's signature dish, motsunabe.
"Mentaiko Miso" (2,980 yen per portion, can be ordered for two or more persons) is a dish that features a mild-tasting miso-based motsunabe topped with a generous serving of Spicy Fish Eggs.
The owner, who wasn't really a big fan of Spicy Fish Eggs, was so impressed after trying it that he decided to use Kanefuku Spicy Fish Eggs.
What surprised me the most was the size of the giblets. It's no exaggeration to say that they were the biggest I've ever seen!
Only the small intestines of domestically produced Wagyu beef are used. The motsu soaked in broth is soft and tender. The sweetness and umami of the meat spreads in your mouth.
Not only was it delicious, but it also had plenty of vegetables and was very filling!
I also like that you can choose between having it with or without garlic.
There is also "Mentaiko Miso DX" which includes added Spicy Fish Eggs (3,980 yen per portion, can be ordered for two or more people).
Motsunabe "Mentaiko and grated yam"
The owner's top recommendation is the most popular dish, "Mentaiko Tororo" (2,980 yen per portion, can be ordered for two or more people).
This dish is a miso-based motsunabe topped with grated yam and mentaiko diluted with dashi. It has a rich, delicious flavor.
In fact, this menu item is also available as a special treat, with gold dust sprinkled on top!
The sight of the gold dust dancing beautifully against the backdrop of the night view filled me with happiness.
Not only is it filled with bouncy and tasty offal, but it also comes with plenty of vegetables such as chives, cabbage, and burdock!
The tofu was cut into bite-sized pieces and was delicious, infused with the broth.
Other versions of the motsunabe that don't contain Spicy Fish Eggs are available: "Miso" and "Shoyu" (2,180 yen each per serving, orders can be made for two or more people).
Vinegared offal
Next comes the a la carte dish.
"Sour Motsu" (780 yen) is a refreshing dish.
The cow's rectum is boiled for three hours to give it a fluffy texture. This may be the first time I've ever come across vinegared offal with such a fluffy texture...!
It was incredibly delicious, soft and not at all peculiar in taste.
Fried cod roe and seaweed
My favorite dish this time was the "Mentaiko Isobe Age" (780 yen), which is a chikuwa filled with cream cheese and Spicy Fish Eggs.
The rich cheese and Spicy Fish Eggs go perfectly together! The gentle yet deep flavor has made me a big fan!
Spicy Fish Eggs tempura
The "Spicy Fish Eggs Tempura" (980 yen), which was created after much research, has a light and crispy texture.
The three delicious ingredients of Spicy Fish Eggs, shiso, and seaweed combine to give the dish a deep, concentrated flavor.
They're so delicious you'll want to eat more than one!
Mentaiko rice ball
The "Mentaiko Onigiri" (480 yen) is packed with Spicy Fish Eggs not only in the visible part on top but also inside.
They're so popular that many people order several more because they find one delicious!
The plump rice, made from carefully selected rice, and the refined, spicy Spicy Fish Eggs were a perfect match.
Hakata Spicy Fish Eggs
For those who want to fully enjoy Kanefuku's Spicy Fish Eggs, we recommend the single item "Hakata Spicy Fish Eggs" (780 yen).
This restaurant is a feast for both delicious food and beautiful scenery. It uses plenty of Spicy Fish Eggs, a Fukuoka specialty, so it would be a good place to take people from outside the prefecture!
There are also great value course meals ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 yen. Please come and visit us. (Text by CHIHIRO)
