Rich matcha affogato and Basque cheesecake! A notable new shop in Daimyo (Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City)
Hello! I'm Hakata Aya, a writer who loves hot information about Fukuoka.
This time, we will introduce a new Japanese tea specialty store that has opened in "ARK Konyamachi Yokocho" in Daimyo, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, where trendy cafes and sweets shops are lined up! There are plenty of matcha sweets that are perfect for the coming season ♪
The second store has opened in Fukuoka! Kagoshima-based Japanese tea specialty store "TEAWAVE" (Daimyo, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka)
TEAWAVE is a Japanese tea specialty store with its main store in Kagoshima. This Daimyo store, which opened on July 30, 2024, is the second store.
It is about an 8-minute walk from Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station. This area is home to other popular gourmet spots such as ARK Konyamachi Yokocho, ANAKUMA CAFE Daimyo Branch, and Jeonno Hot Dog Daimyo Branch. We recommend stopping by between shopping and sightseeing.
The eat-in space on the second floor has about four small tables. The interior is based on white and gray, creating a chic Korean-style space. As the products on offer are Japanese tea, there is a somewhat Japanese atmosphere.
The sunlight streaming in through the window was very pleasant, perfect for relaxing and enjoying tea.
A diverse menu using carefully selected tea from Kagoshima Prefecture
At TEAWAVE, you can enjoy a variety of drinks and sweets made with carefully selected tea from Kagoshima Prefecture, including lattes, milk teas, and sencha teas.
There was a bonsai tree next to the cash register on the first floor where you order, which created a Japanese atmosphere. It was soothing.
This time, I ordered a "Matcha Latte" (600 yen, hot is the same price), a "Asatsuyu" (550 yen, hot is the same price), and sweets such as a "Matcha Affogato" (650 yen) and a "Hojicha Basque Cheesecake" (650 yen).
"Asatsuyu" (the drink in the back of the photo) is a beautiful, refreshing green tea with a sweet taste and little bitterness. Its mellow flavor goes perfectly with rich sweets!
The "Asatsuyu" is paired with "Hojicha Basque Cheesecake."
The rich aroma of roasted green tea spreads the moment you put it in your mouth. It's irresistible! The creamy taste of the cheese envelops the umami of the roasted green tea, making it a well-balanced masterpiece. You can enjoy the fusion of Japanese and Western cuisine.
You can choose vanilla or matcha ice cream for the "Matcha Affogato", and this time I chose vanilla. The affogato allows you to taste the strong bitterness of matcha directly, and the sweetness of the vanilla ice cream mellows out that bitterness, creating an exquisite balance that is very delicious! I was able to enjoy the matcha that fills my mouth, and it was irresistible♪
It was a wonderful Japanese tea cafe that made me feel relaxed and at ease! I recommend it not only to tea lovers, but also to those who don't usually drink much Japanese tea. Please come and visit! (Text by Hakata Aya.)
