Feel like you're on a trip to Korea! A popular supermarket that sells everything from gourmet food and cosmetics to the latest trends (Daimyo, Fukuoka City)
Hello! I'm Hakata Aya, a writer who loves hot information about Fukuoka.
This time, we will introduce you to Korean supermarkets where you can get the feeling of traveling.
Smile Market Daimyo Branch: A supermarket where you can experience the Korean atmosphere (Daimyo, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City)
The Korean supermarket "Smile Market Daimyo Branch" is located in Daimyo, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, about a one-minute walk east from Taisho-dori along Ganrin-cho-dori. It is also about a five-minute walk from Akasaka Station on the Subway Kuko Line.
In addition to Korean food and cosmetics, there is also a wide selection of miscellaneous goods. It has not only the standard items but also the items that are currently popular in Korea, making it a must-see for Korean fans.
The Daimyo store will open in August 2022. It is a popular store that is currently also located in Fukuoka PARCO and Aeon Ogori Shopping Center.
There is a signboard that reminds me of the Korean subway, and I was excited even before entering.
At the entrance, you'll see "APEACH," the official character of the messenger app "KakaoTalk," one of Kakao Friends. His exquisite facial expression is soothing!
Rare items too! Popular sweets and foods
Nowadays, Korean food is available at familiar supermarkets and convenience stores, but Smile Market Daimyo store has many unique products!
First, we'll introduce three recommended sweets.
"Tattari Fried Chicken Flavor" (293 yen) is a snack in the shape of fried chicken. It has a strong flavor and goes great with "Chamisul"!
My favorite potato chips, "Yegam Cheese Gratin" (168 yen), are divided into two small bags, so I recommend them to people who tend to eat too much. They are non-fried, so you don't feel guilty about eating them.
The traditional Korean sweet "Yakgwa" has recently become available in Japan, but this was the first time I'd seen the "Mini Honey Yakgwa Apple Flavor" (232 yen)!
The sweet fried snack "Yakgwa" was delicious with the refreshing taste of apple.
They also have a wide selection of other sweets, including chocolates and gummies. The store's official Instagram also has a ranking of recommended items, which can be helpful.
Coffee in pouches, which is hard to find in Japan, is unique to Korea. It is a standard item at convenience stores in Korea, and is poured into a cup with ice. There are a wide variety of coffees, so it's fun to choose!
Drinks and snacks are sold individually rather than as a whole piece (generally for under 100 yen), so it's nice that you can easily try out any products that interest you.
In addition to room temperature products, they also have a wide selection of refrigerated drinks and frozen foods. You can easily enjoy Korean gourmet food such as "Mandoo" and "Chijimi" at home!
You can't help but buy it! Popular "Korean Ramen" Ranking
Among the food items, the shelf that stands out the most is the Korean ramen section. It's inevitable that you'll be confused by the lineup, but there are "rankings" posted in the store that you can refer to.
Here are the rankings from when I visited:
3rd place: Sesame Ramen
First up, in third place is Ottogi's "Sesame Ramen (Chamuke Ramen)" (200 yen).
Korean ramen has a strong image of being spicy, but this one is not too spicy. It is full of eggs and sesame seeds, so it has a delicious taste that I think everyone will like.
2nd place: Tumse Ramen
In second place is "Paldo's Tumse Ramen" (195 yen).
As you can tell from the package, this is a very spicy ramen. I would definitely recommend this to people who can handle a lot of spice, but if you can't handle it, be careful...!
It is also recommended to add an egg to make it milder.
1st place: Real Cheese Ramen
The now familiar "Ottogi" "Real Cheese Ramen" (285 yen) takes the top spot!
It comes with a rich cheese-flavored soup and a thick cheese sauce topping, so you can enjoy cheese to your heart's content.
In addition to bagged noodles, there is also a wide selection of cup noodles. If you're curious about what they taste like, feel free to ask the staff.
A wide selection of Korean cosmetics and miscellaneous goods
In addition to food, there are also plenty of cosmetics and miscellaneous goods, including sheet masks and multi-colored eyeshadow palettes.
The cute pastel-colored "ballpoint pen" (429 yen) is also recommended as a gift♪
The "Present Box" (165 yen) with Hangul written on it would look stylish just as a decoration in your room.
It's so much fun to choose from so many different things that you'll end up staying for a long time at Smile Market Daimyo. Why not go and find your favorite item? (Text by Hakata Aya.)
