Very popular! A stylish cafe with cute and delicious Japanese sweets that also make great gifts (Kokuraminami Ward, Kitakyushu City)
Hello♪ I'm Nanami, a writer who loves red bean paste.
This time, we will introduce the Japanese sweets of a very popular, stylish and modern cafe located in Kamisone, Kokuraminami Ward, Kitakyushu City.
Hugely popular every day! The cute illustrations at the popular Japanese café "Kasho Kikutaro Main Store" (Kamisone, Kokuraminami Ward, Kitakyushu City) make great souvenirs
Kasho Kikutaro Main Store is a Japanese sweets shop with a cafe that opened in 2016.
It is located along Prefectural Route 25, halfway between JR Nippō Main Line's Shimozone Station and Kutami Station, and there is a large parking lot, so it is easy to access by car.
Look for this big grey sign.
The spacious grounds are filled with greenery, creating an extraordinary atmosphere.
The interior of the store is decorated in monochrome, allowing you to choose your sweets in a calm atmosphere.
There are so many attractive Japanese sweets to choose from, and there are also many gifts available.
The cafe space is also based on a monochrome theme, with wooden tables and green sofas that give off a warm feeling. Bright light pours in through the windows, and there is plenty of greenery, creating an atmosphere that is in harmony with nature and is very relaxing.
In addition to table seats, there are counter seats and terrace seats. *Seats cannot be specified.
If you want to enjoy lots of delicious Japanese sweets, then this is it! The very satisfying "Kikutaro Plate"
This time, we enjoyed some delicious Japanese sweets and drinks.
In the cafe space, you order by scanning the QR code on each table.
This is the "Kikutaro Plate" (1,040 yen), where you can enjoy a selection of Japanese sweets of the day.
On this day, starting from the "Kinako Roll" on the top right, going clockwise, the plate contained "Ohagi," "Karintou," "Kushidango," "Terrine Yokan," and "Anko no Shizuku." The thought of being able to eat such cute Japanese sweets all at once is exciting ♡ The Japanese sweets on the "Kikutaro Plate" are lined up in the display case, and can also be taken out.
The "Kinako Roll" has warabimochi in the middle! It also comes with plenty of whipped cream, so one is enough to satisfy you.
The "Ohagi" is lemon flavored. A gorgeous bean paste flower made from lemon juice and white bean paste is placed on top of the bean paste-filled ohagi. It had a light and refreshing taste.
And when you think of "Kikutaro," you think of "Karintou." The predecessor of "Kikutaro" was a specialty store of Karintou founded in 1950. This is the store's signature Japanese sweet, filled with the passion from the time of the store's founding. It is small and easy to eat, and you'll find yourself reaching for it again and again as it crunches.
The "Kushi Dango" was matcha flavored♪ The chewy and crunchy dango was filled with plenty of matcha paste. The matcha paste was rich and delicious♡
"Terrine Yokan" is a type of yokan that resembles a Western confectionery. In addition to the "Hojicha" flavor that I had this time, there are other flavors such as "Matcha Chocolate", "Chocolate Rum Raisin", "Pistachio", "Lemon", "Tangerine", "Berry", "Coffee" and "Strawberry". *When purchasing, you will need to buy a box of 9 pieces.
Lastly, there is "Anko no Shizuku". These are sweet bean paste balls with a distinctive, thick texture that allows you to enjoy the taste of the ingredients. On the day we visited, they were "pumpkin" flavored. Other flavors available are "matcha", "sweet potato", "raspberry", "yuzu", "chestnut", "strawberry", "pistachio" and "purple sweet potato". *When purchasing, you will need to buy a box of 9 pieces.
Each one was unique and delicious, and I enjoyed eating them with excitement. I recommend them to those who want to enjoy many different kinds at once.
Too cute to eat ♡ "Pistachio tart"
This is the "Pistachio Tart" (630 yen), which will be available until early autumn. Its monster-like appearance is very cute ♡
Custard cream, fresh cream, and bean paste on top of a crispy tart. On top is a generous amount of pistachio paste! The bean paste instantly transforms this Western-style tart into a Japanese-style confection. It's a truly luxurious tart that lets you enjoy both Japanese and Western flavors in one♪
Drinks are also plentiful: "Azuki latte" and "Hojicha smoothie"
There is also a wide selection of drinks that go well with Japanese sweets. This is the "Azuki Latte" (Medium 560 yen, Large 610 yen). It comes in hot and cold versions, and the cold version can be topped with ice cream (Medium 690 yen, Large 740 yen). *The photo shows the M size with ice cream topping.
It's filled with gently sweet azuki beans, and goes perfectly with the rich milk. Topping it with ice cream enhances the sweetness and mellowness, making it really delicious.
This is the "Hojicha Smoothie" (790 yen).
The bird-shaped cookie perched on top is adorable ♡ The generous amount of whipped cream on top mellows out the bitter taste of the roasted green tea, making it easy to drink.
If you order a drink and dessert set, you'll get a 100 yen discount!
During lunch time (11:30-15:30), they also offer the very popular "Custom Salad Lunch" (1,460 yen or 1,640 yen) where you can create your own one-plate meal. Reservations can only be made at 11:30, so we recommend making a reservation.
Recommended as a gift! Popular classic Japanese sweets
After relaxing at the cafe, we bought some souvenirs to take home as snacks.
First up is the "Kikuka potato" (140 yen each).
The soft skin is filled with a rich, sweet milk paste made from sweet potatoes from Kagoshima Prefecture. The moist texture lets you directly experience the deliciousness of the sweet potatoes.
Next is "Kitakuka Cheese" (160 yen each).
This is a white bean paste made with cream cheese and Camembert cheese wrapped in milk bean paste. It's not too sweet, but very rich! It goes great with green tea or coffee.
Kitakyushu Ka also has another type, Pistachio (170 yen per piece), which is made by mixing pistachio paste into white bean paste and topping it with raspberry sauce.
My top recommendation is the "Freshly Baked Butter Dorayaki" (250 yen each), which is only available on weekends.
The dough is freshly baked in-store and topped with plenty of homemade bean paste and butter! The sight of the butter spilling out is irresistible.
The fluffy dough and the sweet bean paste are topped with butter, giving it a rich flavor. Once you try it, you'll be hooked. This is a limited edition item, so if you want one, we recommend coming early.
Be sure to visit this relaxing space filled with delicious Japanese sweets. (Text by Nanami)
