[New store in Kurume] A cute and delicious ice cream store has opened inside a popular bakery!
Hello. This is Chihi Log, a casual website that provides information about Fukuoka, with a focus on gourmet food.
This time, we will introduce you to a very cute ice cream specialty store that opened in Kurume.
Opening in July 2024! "Ice Pocket" (Kurume City), a cute and authentic ice cream specialty store
"Ice Pocket" opened on July 5, 2024 inside the popular grape bread specialty store "Budopan". It is located about 2 minutes by car from Kurume IC on the Kyushu Expressway.
I personally love the grape buns from Budopan, so I was excited that the ice cream made by this shop would definitely be delicious!
As you enter, Budopan is on the left and Ice Pocket is on the right.
The cute design looks just like a festival stall!
There is also an eat-in space, so you can take your time enjoying your ice cream and bread.
A wide variety of seasonal flavors! Enjoy ice cream in any combination you like!
The distinctive feature of Ice Pocket's ice cream is... first of all, its appearance! It's super cute!
The store's mascot is a soothing character with a blank face. The image is said to represent "pockets stuffed to the brim with fun, the happy feeling that children get when choosing something exciting."
By the way, this ice cream and the characters were designed by designer moritanoillust (Instagram @moritanoillust).
They were also selling merchandise such as "acrylic key chains" (300 yen), so I couldn't help but get one.
We've introduced it because of its eye-catching visuals, but of course the flavor is also very carefully chosen! They use craft ice cream made in an ice cream factory in Yoshinogari Town, Saga Prefecture, that has been in operation since the Meiji era.
The handmade ice creams are made using carefully selected seasonal ingredients from Fukuoka and Saga, and each one has a gentle flavor that brings out the deliciousness of the ingredients.
On the day I visited, there were nine different flavors of ice cream on offer: "Milk," "Milk Tea," "Strawberry," "Black Sesame," "Tangerine," "Vanilla," "Yuzu," "Soybean Flour and Brown Sugar Syrup," and "Matcha." The flavors change depending on the season.
You can choose from "Single" (460 yen), "Double" (580 yen), "Triple" (640 yen), and "Kids Double (for elementary school students and younger)" (380 yen).
Each ice cream comes with a cute monaka (a type of sweet bean paste) made at Taneyoshi, a monaka specialty factory that has been in business for over 100 years since its founding in 1928. The flavor is perfected to bring out the deliciousness of the ice cream, and the light, crispy texture and smooth texture are irresistible ♡ The color changes depending on the season, and on the day we visited there were two colors: yellow and blue.
Curious to know what it tastes like? We report on the ice cream we actually tried!
From here on, I will introduce the menu items that I actually ate.
Single "Vanilla" + "Seasonal Jam Topping"
First, we have added "Seasonal Jam Toppings" (60 yen each) to the "Vanilla" "Single" (460 yen).
The jam is from "Emi Jam," which continues to sell out despite being sold only by word of mouth.
There are three varieties available: "Strawberry" made with Amaou strawberries, "Pineapple" made with Philippine pineapples and Jonagold apples, and "Strawberry Mulberry" made with Amaou strawberries and mulberries from Fukuoka Prefecture.
They cost 60 yen each, but you can order several types and enjoy them together.
Double "Strawberry" "Yuzu"
I ordered the "Double" (580 yen) with "Strawberry" and "Yuzu" flavors.
The "Strawberry" uses "Ichigosan" strawberries from Saga Prefecture. The balance of sweetness and sourness is perfect! It has a crunchy texture and is delicious.
The yuzu flavor was irresistible with its sourness and the astringency of the yuzu peel.
Triple "Milk", "Black sesame", "Matcha"
I ordered the "Triple" (640 yen), a combination of two types of ramen.
The first one is a combination of "Milk," "Black sesame," and "Matcha."
"Milk" uses milk produced in Saga Prefecture, and its gentle sweetness fills your mouth.
"Matcha" uses Ureshino matcha, with a rich aroma and mild bitterness that will make you want to order it again and again.
"Black Sesame" has an irresistible balance of black sesame flavor and milk.
Triple "Milk tea", "Kinako brown honey", and "Tangerine"
The second triple drink is a combination of milk tea, kinako brown sugar syrup, and mandarin oranges.
The "Milk Tea" uses Ureshino black tea. The gorgeous aroma of the black tea spreads throughout your mouth, giving it a refreshing taste.
"Kinako Brown Sugar" uses "Hana Kinako" made from Fukuyutaka soybeans. The fragrant aroma of kinako and Okinawan brown sugar sugar give it a rich flavor!
The "mandarin oranges" are made with plenty of "Saga mandarin oranges"! I was impressed by their refreshing and rich flavor.
The attention to detail in each and every ingredient is amazing, and although it was actually a little far from my house, it was a restaurant that made me think, "It was worth the effort to go there!"
Not only is it cute, but it's also authentic ice cream, so be sure to give it a try! (Text by CHIHIRO)
