Located inside a temple! A hidden gem of a cafe with a relaxing Japanese atmosphere (Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City)
Hello. I'm Masaki, a writer who loves hidden gourmet spots.
This time, we will introduce a cafe located within the grounds of a temple in Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City.
Relax in a Japanese-style space! "Temple Cafe Awamo" located inside the temple grounds (Tojinmachi, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City)
"Temple Cafe Awamo" is located within the grounds of the Nichiren sect Keiunzan Myohoji Temple, about 10 minutes from Tojinmachi Station on the Subway Kuko Line.
The temple was opened by the chief priest who wanted to create a place where people could relax and take a break from work, housework and other things. He named it "Awamo" (light cloud) with the hope that it would become a place where people could keep their minds calm like clouds.
There are delicious drinks and sweets available.
The interior of the restaurant, which was renovated from an old Japanese house, is an elegant space filled with a Japanese atmosphere.
If you sit at a table, please take off your shoes before sitting down.
The garden and furniture are lovely too, so be sure to take a look around.
There are also private rooms available.
Recommended drinks: Matcha latte and special iced coffee
The drink menu includes "Special Keiun Coffee" (500 yen), "Matcha" (500 yen), and "Cafe au Lait" (600 yen).
We ordered the highly recommended "Matcha Au Lait" (hot and iced, 600 yen each) and "Special Iced Coffee" (550 yen). The drinks come with confetti.
This is the "Matcha Au Lait." * "Matcha Au Lait" is usually served in a glass when you eat in, but this time it was served in a special take-out cup for the interview.
They make each order using freshly brewed matcha from Hoshinomura, Yame City.
It was so stylish that we shot in a variety of locations.
You can take photos anywhere, but taking them outside is especially recommended.
Let's look at it from directly above.
It's cute, isn't it?
The foam is sweeter than I expected, and the matcha flavor is rich. It's very delicious.
I ate them alternately with confetti.
The "special iced coffee" my friend ordered was also delicious.
They use only the best-tasting beans that are carefully selected and roasted at the Myohoji branch in Itoshima. They carefully hand-brew the coffee and chill it, allowing you to enjoy the refreshing aroma and clean bitterness.
Stylish sweets too!
There are also a variety of stylish sweets on offer, such as the "Awamo Set" (1,300 yen) which comes with tiramisu and rich vanilla ice cream in a white cloud-shaped container, the "Monaka Ice Cream Set" (1,150 yen) which features crispy monaka with the awamo mark branded on it and a choice of three types of ice cream (vanilla, matcha, or brown sugar kinako), and the "Wagashi Set" (900 yen) which includes seasonal dried sweets.
Among them, the "Special Temple Parfait Set" (1,850 yen for eat-in) is available from 11:00 and is the shop's most recommended menu item, allowing you to fully experience the "temple cafe" atmosphere. It was recently renovated.
The set includes a Japanese-style parfait filled with plenty of black honey kinako ice cream, matcha ice cream, matcha agar, warabimochi, and more, as well as a special "Keiun" coffee or matcha.
They also have a take-out cup version (1,100 yen), which does not include a drink in the set and is just the parfait.
Temple Cafe Awamo also offers the Myohoji Temple stamp service. If you are interested, please ask the staff.
Well then, thank you for the meal. (Text by Masaki)
