Fans come from outside the prefecture! A great souvenir! A popular sweets shop in Kurume that only those in the know know about.
Hello. I am Yorimichi, the owner of the blog "Yorimichi's Fukuoka Introduction," which introduces delicious restaurants in Fukuoka.
This time, we will introduce some popular sweets shops in Kurume City.
Fruit dumplings and fruit sandwiches are very popular! Great as souvenirs at the sweets shop "PACCO SWEETS" (Kurume City)
So, I arrived in Kozucho, Kurume City.
It blends in so well with the atmosphere of the town that first-time visitors would probably just walk right past it.
The shop with the yellow entrance in the center of the photo below is our destination, PACCO SWEETS. The shop opened in 2021.
There are two parking spaces next to the store.
The pole stands like this.
Although it is primarily a take-out shop, you can also enjoy your meal on the benches outside. It's also nice that they have parasols so you can cool off!
In addition to fruit sandwiches, fruit dumplings, and popsicles, the store also sells baked goods like these, and many customers buy them as small thank you gifts or presents.
They are all not too sweet, so you'll find yourself eating them all in no time.
Needless to say, dumplings are extremely popular.
Of course the fruit flavours are good too, but I personally recommend the "Chilled Roasted Sweet Potato Dumplings" (291 yen each).
Aside from dumplings, this shop's specialty is that it serves dishes that use a lot of fruit.
Another nice thing about the fruit sandwiches is that they are packed well from top to bottom, not just on the surface.
A variety of ways to enjoy this cool drink packed with fruit!
This time, I would like to introduce some cool drinks and sweets.
First up is the "Fruit Tapioca Jelly Squash" (594 yen), a drink that lets you enjoy fruit, tapioca, and homemade jelly with your favorite flavor of soda.
It's hard to imagine, so let's try it for ourselves. This is what it looks like when it's sold. There are several kinds of fruits, mainly watermelon, in the cup.
First, choose one of six soda flavors (green apple, pomegranate, white peach, blood orange, lemon, pink grapefruit). This time, I chose green apple.
Next, they add plenty of tapioca and homemade jelly to your cup and top it off with soda.
And that's it.
This is a cool drink that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, such as drinking it as is and eating the fruit later, mashing the fruit and drinking it together, or mashing about half the fruit and eating it as is occasionally.
Actually, this cup has an interesting mechanism. If you look closely, you will see that there is a skewer in addition to the straw.
Remove the lid and turn it over, leaving the straw intact.
This makes it easier to eat fruit.
Personally, I recommend lightly crushing the fruit to release the juice, then eating the rest as is.
Be careful not to get too carried away with the fruit right from the start, as you might end up not having enough to mash and extract the juice.
Sales will end once watermelon season is over, so be sure to get yours soon.
Must-buy homemade popsicles!
Next, cool sweets.
This is a must-buy when you visit this store!
These are handmade popsicles that are available all year round.
There are four varieties available: "Fruit Cocktail," "Berry Berry Yogurt," "Homemade Polar Bear," and "Chocolate Banana" (270 yen each). They're all delicious, so it might be fun to buy them all and compare the flavors.
When lined up like this, it looks like this, and just looking at it makes you feel cooler.
My favorite is "Very Berry Yogurt."
As you can see, it is divided into three layers: raspberry, blueberry, and strawberry, so you can enjoy a variety of flavors from the first bite to the last.
One bite and you can really taste the berries!!
The combination of sourness and yogurt is exquisite and tasteful. I'm in love with the balance.
The blueberry in the middle is also nice.
It's packed with berries throughout, so it's very satisfying!
Apparently there are some fans who come frequently from as far away as Yamaguchi Prefecture.
I can understand why people would want to go back to Kurume just to eat this.
Although it is not a particularly conspicuous shop, it is well known among those in the know and has a loyal fan base thanks to its high quality. In fact, the owner is originally a "chef" rather than a pastry chef. The taste is the result of the chef's attention to detail in the proportions of ingredients and the taste.
Please come and visit us. (Text by Yorimitsu)
