Fluffy and chewy, the pizza is amazingly delicious! A very popular Neapolitan pizza shop (Yukuhashi City) that bakes pizza in an authentic wood-fired oven
I live with my three rescued cats and my flying wife, and I'm Dan!, who introduces popular spots in the Fukuoka area.
Sometimes you just have an uncontrollable craving for pizza.
In this article, we will introduce you to some restaurants where you can eat wood-fired Neapolitan pizza, which is perfect for such an occasion.
At "Pizzeria Da Giorgio" (Yukuhashi City), you can enjoy "Neapolitan pizza" baked in an authentic wood-fired oven by a chef who trained in Naples.
Pizzeria Da Giorgio is located about a 10-minute walk from JR Nippō Main Line's Yukuhashi Station, along National Route 201. This authentic pizzeria opened in Yukuhashi City, Fukuoka Prefecture in 2013, and is now in its 11th year.
Naples, Italy, is said to be the birthplace of pizza.
The owner of "Pizzeria Da Giorgio", Sakoda Joji, is an authentic pizza chef who trained in Naples.
The store name "Giorgio" is said to come from Mr. Joji's name (George → Giorgio).
The restaurant has counter seats and three table seats.
In the back you can see an impressive kiln. It is a genuine Neapolitan wood-fired kiln that crossed the sea from Naples to Japan.
By the way, the kiln weighs a whopping 4 tons. Apparently it was a fairly large-scale operation to set it up, as it had to be hung with a crane. It's not going to be an easy move.
The flour used is also imported from Italy, from Caputo, a flour mill in Naples.
These cutely illustrated take-out boxes are also imported from Italy.
By the way, "Pizzeria Da Giorgio" was awarded the "Michelin Plate" in the "Michelin Guide Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki 2019 Special Edition."
Authentic pizza baked in a high-temperature wood-fired oven in just 1 minute!
This pizzeria does not offer any creative pizzas, but serves traditional Neapolitan pizzas.
This is the lunch menu (salad included). There is a minimum of one order per person during lunchtime.
<Tomato sauce base>
・"Margherita" (1,300 yen) - the epitome of Neapolitan pizza
・"Marinara" (1,000 yen) oregano, garlic, basil *No cheese
・"Pomodorini" (1,300 yen) Cherry tomatoes, garlic, oregano *No cheese
・"Romana" (1,400 yen) Mozzarella, anchovies, basil, oregano
・"Dog" (1,900 yen) Fruit tomato, buffalo mozzarella, basil
<Mozzarella cheese base>
・"Sorrentina" (1,300 yen) Basil
・"Mais" (1,400 yen) corn, ham, fresh cream
・"Regina" (1,700 yen) salami, cherry tomatoes, ricotta, basil
・"Fungi" (1,500 yen) 5 kinds of various mushrooms
・ Quattro Formaggi (1,800 yen) 4 kinds of cheese, basil
This time, my friend and I ordered three types of pizza: "Romana," "Quattro Formaggi," and "Funghi."
I peered over the counter to see the work in progress.
This is "Romana." The generous amount of homemade tomato sauce is impressive.
The temperature inside a wood-fired kiln varies depending on the location, but is approximately 450℃ to 500℃.
It cooks in just 60 to 90 seconds, so rotate the pizza to ensure it cooks evenly.
This is "Fungi". Come on over to the kiln!
It was baked in no time.
They are baked one after another.
Next up is "Romana."
The aroma of basil and tomato sauce and the fragrant dough will get you excited.
"Quattro Formaggi" contains so much cheese that it melts and falls apart.
There's no way it wouldn't be delicious!
Try it hot and fresh!
This is the one I chose, "Romana."
This visual is so beautiful!
The dough is soaked with a generous amount of tomato sauce, and the cheese is so heavy that it will fall off if you don't use a fork.
It was hot straight out of the wood-fired oven, so it was fluffy and chewy! Buono!
The rich flavor of the cheese, the savory tomato sauce, the saltiness of the anchovies, and the aroma of basil all come together in a truly blissful experience.
My friends also said that the "Funghi" and "Quattro Formaggi" they ate were delicious and packed with cheese.
In the evening, in addition to pizza, they also offer light snacks such as "Zeppolini" (550 yen), a Neapolitan deep-fried dish made with seaweed, "Assorted Appetizers" (from 1,200 yen), and "Marinated Octopus" (850 yen).
Oh no, writing this article is making me want to eat it already!
You can enjoy watching the flames of the wood-fired oven and Sakoda's skills while waiting for your pizza to be prepared from the special seats in front of the pizza oven.
At Pizzeria da Giorgio, you can enjoy authentic Neapolitan pizza without having to go to Naples. Be sure to try this delicious treat. (Text by Dan!)
