Best value for money! "950 yen for a bowl and set" Popular udon restaurant from Buzen Urauchikai (Asahigaoka, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City)

Hello. I'm Yuri and I love going out with my kids.

It's been almost two and a half years since I started living in Fukuoka, and recently I've been awakened to the deliciousness of Fukuoka udon! I'm eating more udon than ever before.

This time, we will introduce a famous udon restaurant located in Asahigaoka, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City.

A must-see for udon lovers! "Kanbei-ryu Hakko" (Asahigaoka, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City), a member of the "Tsudaya-ryu Buzen Urauchi Association"

"Kanbei-ryu Hakko" is located on the first floor of a building next to "Sunlive Asahigaoka", a 10-minute drive from JR Kyushu Tech-mae Station.

It opened in October 2022. It is popular for its "Buzen Urauchikai" udon noodles, and is crowded with many people every day.

"Buzen Urauchikai" is one of the schools of handmade udon that originated in Kitakyushu. Only those who have trained at the head temple, "Tsudaya Kanbei" (Tsudashinmachi, Kokuraminami Ward, Kitakyushu City) can call themselves members of the school, and currently there are 40 stores nationwide that are members.

When you think of udon in Fukuoka, you may think of thick, soft noodles, but in recent years, there are many restaurants that boast thin, chewy noodles, such as Buzen Urauchikai, which has been gaining popularity mainly in the Kitakyushu area.

The restaurant has table seats and counter seats.

It was clean and the atmosphere was friendly for families with children.

Products are ordered by purchasing a meal ticket.

In addition to the a la carte menu, there are plenty of set menus such as the "Mini Komachi Set" (800 yen) which comes with a mini udon and a mini rice bowl, and the "Udon Set" (900 yen) which comes with regular sized udon and a mini rice bowl!

There were a variety of toppings available, including "Mini Burdock" (100 yen), "Green Onion Assortment" (100 yen), "Raw Egg" (150 yen), "Kitsune" (130 yen), "Wakame" (130 yen), and "1 Shrimp" (200 yen).

Side dishes include "Tempura Assortment" (780 yen), "Chicken Tempura 3 Pieces" (300 yen), and "Tempura Rice Ball" (400 yen).

Most of the menu items are under 1,000 yen, so it's easy on the wallet.

Enjoy both udon and rice bowls for just 950 yen! The best value for money "Yako Greedy Set"

This time I ordered the "Yako Greedy Set" (950 yen), which comes with a set of meat and burdock tempura udon and a rice bowl.

You can enjoy two different types so it feels like a good deal!

Both are mini sizes, but you can upgrade to large for an additional 150 yen.

The defining feature of Yatoura's udon is its chewy, thin noodles.

It is smooth and chewy, with a texture similar to that of Inaniwa udon from Akita.

The clear soup stock has a mild taste, but the flavor and saltiness of the soup stock are strong so you won't feel unsatisfied.

The donut-shaped tempura-like goboten makes a big impact!

The thinly sliced burdock is lightly fried, giving it an irresistible crispy texture!

Of course, it is also delicious when soaked in soup stock to let the flavor soak in.

Please help yourself to the original "Buzen Urauchikai" condiment on the table, which is made by grinding chili pepper into a finer powder. Just one shake will dramatically change the flavor.

It has a delicate and elegant taste, but the spiciness hits you straight in the eye. It is sold in stores, so you can enjoy it at home too.

You can choose from three types of bowls in the set: cutlet, beef, or shrimp.

This time, I had "katsudon" and "gyudon".

"Katsudon" is an irresistibly delicious dish of pork cutlet mixed with sweet and salty broth and egg.

The beef bowl had a soft and fluffy egg and a gentle flavor. It was very satisfying!

By the way, apart from the set, you can also add a "mini bowl" (430 yen) to your favorite udon. *The "mini bowl" cannot be ordered separately, but the regular size bowl (820 yen) can be ordered separately.

Both the udon and the rice bowl were delicious and I was very satisfied. Before I knew it, I had finished the udon soup and it still wasn't enough even if I drank it all!

The side dish "Three Chicken Tempura" was crispy and became a favorite with the kids.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone looking for something other than the standard "Yawa Fukuoka Udon"!
