This time, we will introduce a cafe that opened on November 22, 2023 in front of Kashii Station in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka City.

Only open during the day! WIDE coffee, a popular cafe with a menu that uses Tokunoshima's specialty products (in front of Kashii Station, Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City)

WIDE coffee is a cafe that is open only from 11am to 4pm (6pm on Sundays) inside the bar Parivaar, located a one-minute walk from Nishitetsu Kashii Station.

The owner Sayaka's parents are from Tokunoshima, Kagoshima Prefecture. Every time she visited Tokunoshima, where her grandparents live, she fell in love with the island's lifestyle and atmosphere, and decided to open a cafe where people could learn about Tokunoshima.

The shop uses ingredients from Tokunoshima, such as brown sugar and fruit.

The picture on the sign is a sugarcane that Sayaka hand-drawn.

The store's name "Wide" is a dialect used in bullfighting, a part of Tokunoshima's culture, and means "go for it!"

The restaurant was named with the hope that it would become a comfortable place that would be loved by a wide range of people, and that would make people think, "I can do my best tomorrow too."

The interior of the store has a chic atmosphere with exposed concrete.

There are sofa seats and bar counter seats facing the kitchen, and it's a very nice place.

What caught my attention the most this time was the round table seats at the very back of the restaurant!

The corner seating makes for an exciting space where couples or friends can have secret conversations.

Sandwiches are perfect for a light snack

The food menu includes sandwiches. In addition to the a la carte option (one drink order per person), you can also add a salad, mini yogurt, and drink to your set for an additional 400 yen.

Let me introduce what I ate this time.

Taco meat sandwich (500 yen each / 900 yen in a set)

"Taco meat sandwich" is a hot sandwich.

Tokunoshima's "pickled papaya" is added as an accent. The crunchy texture is fun ♡ If you don't like pickles, you can leave them out.

Egg sandwich (450 yen each / 850 yen in a set)

The egg salad seasoned with black pepper is hearty and filling! The fluffy bread is irresistible.

Both sandwiches were equally delicious.

The salad in the set was topped with a dressing made from shekwasha (citrus fruit) from Tokunoshima.

Other sandwiches available include "Ham and Cheese" (500 yen).

Owner's specialty coffee

The owner also puts a lot of effort into coffee, making use of his experience as a barista at a cafe in Fukuoka City.

"FILTER SUPPLY" in Takasago, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City (ARNE's article isHere) and beans from "HAGAN ORGANIC COFFEE" in Tokyo.

Cafe latte (550 yen)

The milky "Cafe Latte" is decorated with cute latte art.

I chose the hot option that day. It was very smooth and delicious.

Drip coffee (500 yen)

For "Drip Coffee", you can choose the type of beans from the day's lineup.

This time, we tried two types of beans from Peru that were roasted to different degrees, both iced and hot.

A must-try for coffee lovers! It was delicious.

By the way, this mug was made by an artist from Tokunoshima.

It's red, but when you drink it, it turns into green tea!? You can enjoy this mysterious tea too

In addition to coffee, you can enjoy "Matcha Latte" (600 yen), "Sun Rouge" (450 yen), and "Cocoa" (400 yen).

I ordered the one that caught my eye the most, "Sun Rouge."

Sun Rouge (450 yen)

You wouldn't guess it from the name, but it's actually green tea! It's a rare variety of tea that is a specialty of Tokunoshima and can only be harvested for 1-2 days when the new leaves turn red.

It's red from the moment it's brewed, but when you drink it, it's definitely green tea.

The acid in the shekwasha reacts with the anthocyanins in the tea, slowly turning it a vibrant red.

The sourness of the shekwasha adds a refreshing touch! It's delicious, fun, and exciting.

Must-try brown sugar sweets♡

The current sweets menu includes "Pound Cake (3 types)" (400 to 430 yen), "Affogato" (380 yen), "Creme Brûlée" (380 yen), and "Island Banana Shake" (600 yen).

Pound cake (brown sugar 400 yen, brown sugar walnut, brown sugar island banana 430 yen each)

This time I chose "Brown Sugar Walnut" and "Brown Sugar Island Banana". It was served with lightly whipped cream.

This moist pound cake is irresistible with the rich flavor and sweetness of brown sugar!

The island bananas used are those grown on Tokunoshima Island without the use of pesticides, which are rarely available on the market and are also known as "phantom bananas."

The walnuts were crunchy and the island bananas had a sticky texture, making it absolutely delicious.

Island Banana Shake (600 yen)

Like the pound cake, it uses Tokunoshima bananas and also contains a bit of vanilla ice cream.

It had a rich banana flavor and just the right amount of acidity, making it very easy to drink.

WIDE coffee has just launched. It plans to add more to its menu in the future. First up is a taco rice dish using the taco meat from the sandwiches.
