Reservations are required! "No matter what you order, you can't go wrong" A very popular Korean restaurant that is full every day with locals (Mizumaki Town, Onga District)
My name is Aoki Ura and I moved to Kitakyushu City due to my family's job transfer.
This time, we will introduce a Korean restaurant in Mizumaki Town, Onga District, Fukuoka Prefecture, that locals recommended as "this is the place for Korean home cooking!"
Recommended by locals! Enjoy Korean home cooking in a relaxed atmosphere at Korean Dining HAN (Mizumaki Town, Onga District)
"Korean Dining HAN" was recommended by a friend who lives in Mizumaki Town and is knowledgeable about good restaurants.
"When you think of a Korean restaurant, you might imagine a lively place filled with smoky barbecue and energy, but HAN has a relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy your meal at your own pace. It's a place that I would recommend especially to adults," he said with great praise.
We were told that it was a very popular restaurant and reservations were required, so we made a reservation for the evening and headed down there with my husband.
The shop is located on the first floor of an apartment building next to the supermarket "MaxValu Mizumaki Store", about 700m from JR Mizumaki Station, on Prefectural Route 202 towards Ashiya from the Korosue National Highway Ramp North Intersection on National Highway 3 Bypass.
There is a parking lot in front of the store, so it is convenient to go by car.
The restaurant has table seats and private rooms with tatami mat seating. On this day, we chose table seats. There was ample space between the tables, so we could relax without worrying about the people around us.
Additionally, the private rooms have partitions, which subtly protect your privacy, making them popular with customers with small children.
We were hungry that day, so we decided to start by ordering the great value "A Little Set for Two" (5,280 yen) and then add an a la carte menu item later.
The set includes samgyeopsal (2 servings), tteokbokki or yangnyeom chicken, chijimi with cheese, and hot stone bibimbap (2 cups of seaweed soup included).
If you want to eat lots of meat, there is also the "Tokutoku Set" (7,150 yen).
The set includes samgyeopsal (2 servings), top-grade kalbi (150g), seafood chijimi, japchae, Korean seaweed, and four sausages, making it a hearty meal filled with meat and seafood.
If you're not hungry enough to order a set meal, we recommend the a la carte menu.
A variety of menu items are available, including "Samgyeopsal (2 servings)" (2,420 yen), "Premium Kalbi (1 serving)" (1,430 yen), "Cheese Dakgalbi (2 servings)" (3,080 yen), "Kimchi Bokkeum (Pork Kimchi)" (880 yen), "Yangnyeom Chicken" (880 yen), "Japchae" (880 yen), and "Seafood Chijimi" (1,100 yen).
If you're not sure what to order, it might be a good idea to ask the staff for advice. They'll be happy to give you advice.
If you want to try a variety of Korean dishes, we highly recommend the affordable "Quick Set for Two"!
When we ordered the "Quick Set for Two," the staff quickly prepared the grill on the table, and as soon as that was done, the "Samgyeopsal (for two)" was brought to us.
"Samgyeopsal" is a thickly sliced pork belly. "HAN" is particular about the brand of pork they use, and uses Kagoshima black pork "Yatarou" or "Rokuhaku pork."
The Samgyeopsal comes with a set of sunny lettuce, lettuce, shiso leaves, kimchi, special Korean miso, chopped onions, and garlic.
Crispy grilled pork is topped with roasted garlic, special miso, and chopped onion, and served wrapped in sunny lettuce, lettuce, shiso leaves, or sesame leaves.
The savory grilled pork was juicy and tender, so delicious I couldn't stop eating it.
Next came the "Cheese Chijimi."
We dip the chijimi sauce that is brought with it and enjoy.
It was my first time to try chijimi with melty cheese and a fluffy, moist texture. It was a fresh and delicious experience.
It's served on a hot iron plate, so it stays warm for a long time and maintains its deliciousness, which is great.
Just as we finished our Samgyeopsal and Cheese Buchimgae, the Tteokbokki arrived!
We could have chosen either "Yangnyeom Chicken" or "Tteokbokki", but due to strong pushing from my husband who loves rice cakes, we decided on "Tteokbokki" that day.
When you think of "Tteokbokki," you might imagine a sweet and spicy flavor with the striking color of gochujang, but this dish has a gentle sweet and salty taste that will become addictive.
"Just like kimchi, each household has their own original seasoning for tteokbokki and chijimi. The tteokbokki here has been seasoned to suit Japanese tastes," a staff member told us.
Lastly, we have "stone-grilled bibimbap"! The sound of the sizzling hot iron pot is sure to whet your appetite.
I wanted to create a burnt crust, so I left it for a while before stirring.
The fragrant aroma is irresistible. Like "Tteokbokki," this dish also has a mild, mild flavor with just the right amount of gochujang.
It's very healthy and packed with vegetables. The two of us ate it up quickly and finished it in no time.
I'm also happy that it comes with wakame soup.
Regular customers love the "boiled pork"! It's best when it's freshly boiled!
A staff member at the restaurant told us, "It's just been boiled! It's most delicious when it's freshly made," so we ordered the "Boiled Pork (Possum)" (880 yen) as an additional item.
This extremely popular dish is healthy and has no excess fat. It has a refreshing taste and goes perfectly with kimchi!
As I was impressed by how delicious it was, he told me, "Our regular customers know that freshly cooked possum tastes best, so they order possum in advance when they call to make a reservation."
All the dishes were very delicious and had been carefully prepared. My husband, who doesn't have many opportunities to eat Korean food, also seemed to like it very much.
The owner couple who served us were very kind and polite, and we were able to enjoy our meal in a comfortable atmosphere.
If you're thinking, "I want to eat Korean food," this is the restaurant you should definitely visit. Don't forget to make a reservation! (Text by Aoki Ura)
