A new Mojiko retro shop! "This season's best fresh chocolate sweets♡" A hidden cafe in the spotlight (Minatomachi, Moji Ward, Kitakyushu City)
Hello, I'm Ayu.latte, a writer who loves cafes. I love cafes so much that I've visited over 1,700 cafes in total.
This time, we will introduce a wonderful cafe that opened in the tourist area of Moji Ward, Kitakyushu City.
A new must-visit spot has appeared in the Mojiko Retro area! A hidden cafe called "liberté" opened in September (Minatomachi, Moji Ward, Kitakyushu City)
Cafe "Liberté" opened in September 2023 in Mojiko Retro, a tourist area in Moji Ward, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The entrance to this cafe is a small wooden door on the right hand side of the building with a burger shop on the first floor.
The store's name, "liberté," means "freedom" or "carefree" in French.
The owner loves Mojiko Port and has a connection with the area, so he opened a cafe and general goods store as a place where people can feel "free and happy."
The inside of the store is a very cute space!
There are seats on the ocean side and on the Mojiko Retro side. There are windows on both sides, so the atmosphere is especially nice around sunset, and the night view is also beautiful.
Upon entering the restaurant, you will be faced with a retro Mojiko Port area to the left, where you can see the former Osaka Shosen building from the window. There are three tables.
On the right, there is a table seating area where you can see the Kanmon Straits from the window. There is only one table here, so you're lucky if you find one free!
The interior of the store is a wonderful fusion of old-fashioned French and Japanese atmosphere! The interior was designed to create a comfortable space for both customers and staff.
Most of the furniture, which exudes the warmth of wood, is antique or vintage from France and Japan.
The calm atmosphere allows you to relax and unwind.
Enjoy limited quantities of these delicious chocolate sweets only in autumn and winter!
This time I ordered some drinks and sweets that really caught my eye.
First up are the seasonal chocolate sweets for autumn and winter. They can't make a lot of them, so the number available each day is limited.
This is the "Raw Chocolate Tart" (550 yen).
The firm tart dough is filled with carefully selected chocolates mixed together. It is made without being too sweet or too bitter, and is a very delicious tart.
This is "Chantilly au Chocolat" (750 yen).
It is a two-layered cake, with chocolate mousse on top of the "raw chocolate tart".
The combination of gooey raw chocolate tart, light chocolate mousse, and a glossy surface coated with a different flavor of chocolate was a real pleasure. It was so delicious that I'm glad I chose it!
It's an irresistible sweet for chocolate lovers ♡
Both of them are said to be designed with a simple appearance in mind, and their small, cute appearance is also appealing.
In the future, they plan to offer tarts made with seasonal fruits.
They also have other delicious looking sweets such as "Coffee Jelly" (550 yen) and "Matcha Terrine" (550 yen).
There's a lot of attention to detail in the drinks too!
We also recommend the carefully crafted drinks.
First, "cafe au lait" (600 yen).
This drink is layered with milk and coffee, and is both tasty and beautiful. The slightly bitter coffee and the gentle sweetness of the very rich milk made for a delicious drink.
This is "iced coffee" (500 yen).
Apparently they had a cafe in Kagoshima specially roast their own beans to reduce the acidity and bitterness, and they had a very clean taste that was delicious.
In addition, the "Hojicha Latte" (650 yen) is made with tea leaves from a long-established shop in Kyoto. The matcha used in other snacks and drinks is also from the same shop.
In addition to sweets and drinks, there is also a food menu. The "Yaki Curry Set" (1,580 yen), a Mojiko specialty made from scratch using several types of spices, onions from Awaji Island, and tomatoes delivered directly from the farm, and the "Butter Chicken Curry Set" (1,280 yen) are particularly intriguing.
The owner, who originally loved handmade crafts and baking, plans to eventually sell handmade goods on the third floor and provide an even more charming space.
If you are visiting Mojiko Retro, be sure to stop by. (Text by ayu.latte)
