Eat your way around Munakata Taisha Shrine! A new cafe with a selection of souvenirs and "delicious Japanese and Western sweets" (Munakata City)

Hello. This is Chihi Log, a casual website that provides information about Fukuoka, with a focus on gourmet food.

This time, we will introduce you to a new and popular spot that is an essential part of Munakata tourism.

Make your visit to Munakata Taisha Shrine even more enjoyable! Munakata Chayu, a free rest area with a cafe attached (Munakata City)

On April 1, 2023, Munakata Chayu opened in front of the torii gate of Munakata Taisha Shrine, a World Heritage Site.

It is a free rest area for worshippers, but it also has a cafe attached.

The concept is "Sharing delicious good fortune from the princess gods."

It was created with the hope that people would stop by after visiting Munakata Taisha Shrine, where the Three Munakata Goddesses are enshrined, leaving them feeling bright and positive, and feeling even happier.

The interior of the store is stylish and spacious, and the sunlight streaming in through the large windows is very comfortable and relaxing.

A Japanese garden is also planned to be completed within the year.

There is also a wonderful selection of contemporary art works on display, mainly by local Fukuoka artists.

The works are also for sale, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Munakata International Environmental Conference's "Marine Guardian Forest Fund" for ocean restoration, and used for activities to protect the ocean.

Munakata Taisha Shrine is also involved in activities to protect the ocean, so in an effort to eliminate plastic, drinks are served in paper picks and cups.

"Himemochi" is expected to become a new specialty of Munakata Taisha Shrine!

The signature product, "Hime-mochi" (5 pieces in a boat-shaped plate for 500 yen), was created with the idea of a "share of happiness" from the princess goddesses enshrined at Munakata Taisha Shrine.

The soft, chewy dough has a nice golden brown finish and is filled with plenty of mitarashi sauce.

The mitarashi sauce contains wakame seaweed as a secret ingredient!

Apparently, it contains some wakame seaweed that has been donated by Munakata Taisha Shrine for many years.

The mitarashi sauce has a slight wakame flavor, and the soft and chewy It goes great with rice cakes! Another great thing about this dish is that you can enjoy mitarashi without getting your hands dirty.

For souvenirs, we recommend the "10-piece box" (1,100 yen)! The stylish and luxurious packaging is also a plus.

The overflowing sauce is irresistible! "Coulant Pistache"

"Coulant Pistachio" (with ice cream 660 yen, without ice cream 540 yen) was created by the chef of "Munakata Chayu".

It is a baked confectionery with a pistachio dough and raspberry sauce.

It's heated up after you order, so the sauce oozes out from the inside.

The balance of the sweetness of the pistachios, the refined tartness of the raspberry sauce, and the vanilla ice cream that supports it all was irresistible; it was a truly exquisite dish!

If you order takeout, they will wrap it so that you can carry it with one hand, so you can enjoy eating it on the go.
