A popular store that has lines even on weekdays! A bakery with about 80 types of bread at reasonable prices (Kurume City)
Hello. I am Yorimichi, the owner of the blog "Yorimichi's Fukuoka Introduction," which introduces delicious restaurants in Fukuoka.
If someone asked you to recommend a bakery in Kurume, which one would you recommend?
This time, I would like to introduce the bakery that I most highly recommend out of the many available.
Bakery House T&M (Kurume City), a popular bakery that has lines even on weekdays
Bakery House T&M opened in Mizuma-cho, Kurume City in February 2022.
It is located along Prefectural Route 15, about a 10-minute walk from Nishitetsu Inuzuka Station.
It's a popular restaurant that sometimes has lines even on weekdays; on the day I visited, I aimed to arrive just as it opened, but there were already about five people in line.
As we waited in line, I was reminded how stylish the shop looked from the outside, and my expectations grew.
You can also eat the bread you purchased on the terrace. The breeze looks like it would be nice this time of year.
When it was my turn I went inside the store and saw about 80 different types of bread lined up.
There is such a wide variety of Danishes that you might wonder if you're really in a sweets shop. And they all look delicious.
The savory breads are all so appealing that you'll want to try them all. However, there's a limit to how much you can eat, so choosing from them can be difficult...
The thing that attracted me the most was the Hamago Shio Bread.
I'll give you a detailed review later, but this is a simple bread made with Hamamishio salt from Tsushima, Nagasaki Prefecture. However, the owner experimented with different salts from around the country and came up with a unique flavor.
There is also "Hamago x Storehouse Mentaiko Salt Bread". It is a surefire combination chosen by the owner, who has been in this business for 25 years.
But really, they all look delicious. And they're all so filling!
From here on, I will introduce some of the items I particularly recommend, from the ones I purchased after much deliberation.
Sweets "Danish"
Let's start with sweet Danishes.
I bought a lot, and they were all really delicious! This time, I'd like to introduce a few carefully selected ones.
This is the "Peach Danish" (275 yen). The fruits used change depending on the season, but they only use the ones that are at their best at that time.
I've been particularly curious about this item since I first saw it on display, and wow, it's amazing.
Perhaps it's because the peaches are in a compote, or perhaps the peaches themselves are sweet, but it has a solid sweetness. The crispy texture of the Danish adds to the sweetness, creating a well-calculated balance. The lingering aftertaste of the deliciousness is a delight.
This is the "Smooth Japanese Chestnut Tart" (275 yen), which is made with plenty of cream and chestnuts from Kumamoto Prefecture.
*There may be times when it is not available for sale.
There is also plenty of chestnut paste inside.
It's of such luxurious quality, with a strong chestnut aroma, that I wonder if it's okay to eat it at this price.
This is "Tiramisu Danish" (265 yen).
Of all the danishes, this was my favorite.
It's so delicious that you'll want to be careful when you eat it, because it will be gone in a matter of seconds.
The crispy Danish pastry is topped with a generous amount of tiramisu cream. It has just the right amount of sweetness and you can eat it forever.
"Salt Bread" packed with special care
Next, salt bread.
The "Hamago Shio Bread" (135 yen), which I briefly introduced earlier, is the "ultimate salt bread" made with specially selected "Hamago Shio" salt and domestic butter.
I had high expectations even before eating it, but it easily surpassed those expectations.
The aroma of butter and the saltiness on the surface are just right. The balance of the light texture and the almost miraculous flavor shows the owner's passion. This is definitely something I'd want to buy even if I had to stand in line.
This is "Hamago x Stored Mentaiko Salt Bread" (173 yen).
Salted bread and mentaiko...I know it's delicious, but it's a combination I've never encountered before, so I was a little nervous before eating it.
But after one bite, all that tension was gone. It was a miracle.
Perhaps because it was cooked, the mentaiko wasn't spicy, and instead retained its aroma and slight saltiness. The flavor of Hamagoshio salt did a great job of supporting the saltiness a little.
Must-buy! T&M Original Big Frank
The last item on our list is the deli "T&M Original BIG Frank" (292 yen). We can't end this article without talking about it.
The sausages are made with 100% pork from Kyushu, in an original blend. After comparing different kinds of pork, the chef paid particular attention to the aftertaste, sweetness of the fat, and meat texture. This is the flavor they arrived at after much trial and error.
The coarsely ground texture is irresistible.
This is definitely something you should try freshly baked.
Of the many savory breads available, this one is a must-buy.
Everything is delicious and reasonably priced, so it's no wonder people line up. I'll go again next week.
