Hello. This is Chihilog, a casual Instagram post about Fukuoka gourmet food.

This time, we will introduce you to a popular izakaya in the Kokura area that is fully booked every day.

A popular izakaya where you can enjoy delicious yakitori and gyoza: "Vegetable Roll Skewers and Gyoza Makinshai Kokura Branch" (Uomachi, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City)

"Makinshai Kokura Branch, Vegetable Roll Skewers and Gyoza" opened on April 4, 2022. This izakaya specializes in vegetable roll skewers and gyoza, which are rare in the Kokura area, and is located about a 3-minute walk from JR Kokura Station.

The restaurant is spread over three floors, with table and counter seating on the first floor and semi-private sunken kotatsu seating on the second and third floors.

Reservations are full every day, and the day I visited was full even though it was a weekday.

In addition to vegetable skewers and gyoza, there is a wide variety of other enticing menu items that will get you excited the moment they are served.

Must-try recommended menu items

I'd like to introduce some of the recommended dishes that I have actually tried.

Yakitori and rolled skewers

The specialty of "Vegetable Roll Skewers and Gyoza Makinshai" is their vegetable roll skewers.

This time, I ordered "Shrimp Roll" (374 yen), "Tomato Roll" (264 yen), "Enoki Mushroom Roll" (253 yen), "Lettuce Roll" (286 yen), "Green Onion Roll" (253 yen), and "Cheese Roll" (286 yen).

The "vegetable roll skewers" are made by wrapping fresh vegetables with pork belly and bacon, and the fat and flavor of the juicy meat enhance the deliciousness of the vegetables. It was healthy and very satisfying♪

In addition to rolled skewers, there are of course the standard yakitori dishes such as "zuri", "tsukune", "pork belly" and "skin"! There are 15 types of skewers on the menu in total (154-374 yen each).

Juicy dumplings

Another must-try is their signature gyoza. They have a variety of dishes such as "Makinshai Gyoza" (3 pieces for 308 yen, 6 pieces for 528 yen), "Salted Gyoza with Green Onions" (3 pieces for 308 yen, 6 pieces for 561 yen), "Garlic Chinese Gyoza" (3 pieces for 308 yen, 6 pieces for 561 yen), and "Boiled Gyoza" (6 pieces for 583 yen), and they change the balance of the skin and filling for each seasoning!

This time I ordered the "Juicy Meat Gyoza" (638 yen).

The outside was crispy and fragrant, the inside was juicy, and the filling was full of meat juice, with a mild yet punchy flavor.

Meat ball sushi

"Niku Temari Sushi" (1,628 yen) is a new type of meat dish that can be enjoyed in one bite.

The cute, round temari sushi is topped with seafood such as sea urchin and salmon roe, as well as condiments such as green onions.

It's a very exciting experience as the meat is grilled over a burner right in front of you! It's sure to get the crowd excited.

It was a light and delicious flavor that went perfectly with alcoholic drinks.

Spilled Mapo Tofu

The generously presented "Overflowing Mapo Tofu" (693 yen) is irresistible.

It was filled with large chunks of tofu and had a deep, spicy flavor.

Tangyukke

The "Tan Yukhoe" (968 yen) will leave you overwhelmed by its boldness. This is also a fun dish as it is grilled over a burner right in front of you.

The chewy, moist tongue and the mellow flavor of the egg yolk go perfectly together!

Yam iron plate

Okonomiyaki-style "Yamaimo Teppan" (693 yen).

This healthy, mild-tasting dish has many fans, and the soft, fluffy texture is addictive.

Camembert cheese

"Camembert Cheese" (605 yen) has an irresistible rich cheese flavor.

The contrast between the crispy fried batter and the chewy, melted cheese makes me feel happy.

motsunabe

You can also enjoy the Fukuoka specialty "Motsunabe" (1,408 yen per person, orders can be made for two or more people).

"Motsunabe" comes in two flavors: miso and soy sauce. This time I ordered the soy sauce version.

It's packed with plenty of vegetables, such as burdock, enoki mushrooms, and Chinese chives, as well as a generous portion of large offal, making it very filling! You're sure to be full.

Avocado Salad

The dish I ordered that really impressed me was the "Avocado Salad" (913 yen).

The salad, which is finished off with a Japanese touch using bonito flakes and spring onions, has a large half an avocado hidden inside! It's so delicious you'll want to eat it again and again.

Sora Ramen

When you go to "Makinshai," you'll definitely want to order the "So Ramen" (693 yen).

The smooth, mild-tasting noodles and the rich flavor of the broth are irresistible. Even if you're full, you'll find yourself eating more and more, making this the perfect dish for the final meal.

Extra noodles are available for 275 yen, and soup can be added for 330 yen.

Sweet potato with honey, butter and vanilla

For dessert, I ordered "Sweet Potato with Honey, Butter and Vanilla" (715 yen).

The fluffy, warm sweet potato and cold vanilla ice cream go perfectly together in this dish. It's also quite filling, so it's perfect for sharing.

There is a wide variety of drinks available! We recommend the photogenic drinks with plenty of fruit.

The drink menu is also extensive. This time, I ordered the "Whole Strawberry Sour" (605 yen) and the "Fruit Mix Sour" (638 yen) (from the left in the photo).

The glass is filled with frozen fruit. Non-alcoholic versions are also available. The cute-looking drink will lift your spirits.

When you leave, the staff will give you a gift of sweets. The shop is bright and warm, and the service is very comfortable.

On Monday, January 16th, 2023, "Vegetable Roll Skewers and Gyoza Makinshai Tenjin Store" will open just one minute's walk from Nishitetsu Fukuoka Tenjin Station!

The pre-opening will run until Saturday, January 14th, and there will be various special offers available.
