Shumai, meat buns, bread, bento boxes and sweets! A popular steamed food takeout store (Minami-ku, Fukuoka City)
Hello. I'm Yuzu, a gourmet writer from Fukuoka.
This time, we will introduce a takeaway shop that serves handmade steamed dishes located in Chikushioka, Minami-ku, Fukuoka City.
Number.64, a takeaway shop serving carefully prepared steamed dim sum and sweets (Chikushioka, Minami-ku, Fukuoka City)
Number.64 opened in January 2023 along Wakahisa Street, about a 15-minute walk from Nishitetsu Takamiya Station. There is a parking lot next to the store that can accommodate one car, so it is convenient to go by car.
This is a takeout specialty store that serves steamed dishes that lock in the flavor of the ingredients, and the name of the store is a pun on "64 (steamed)."

Stays moist and chewy even after a while! "Steamed bread" made with great care
One thing you should definitely try is the shop's proud "steamed buns" (200 yen each).
The special dough, which is full of the owner's particular attention to detail, remains moist and chewy even after a long time. Furthermore, since the beginning of this year, they have changed to an egg-free dough. The taste is the same as when they used eggs, but the volume has increased, which is great news!
About eight different types are displayed in the store each day from among the dozens of varieties, and it's hard to decide which one to choose because they're all so colorful, but today we'll introduce four types that are particularly recommended by the staff.
We recommend heating any of our steamed buns in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds before eating! They will become fluffy and taste just like they were freshly steamed.

The first one is "Caramel."
The key to the flavor is the caramel sauce, handmade by the owner, which has been renewed several times to arrive at its current flavor. It has a rich flavor reminiscent of Western sweets, but is not too sweet and has a simple, "simple is best" taste. The caramel topping melts and blends well with the cake, allowing you to fully enjoy the fluffy texture of the dough.

The second one is "Matcha (with chocolate)".
The fragrant taste of matcha harmonizes with the lightly sweet dough for an elegant flavor. The mellow texture of the chocolate is also great! This is a "Western" flavor, but they also have "Japanese" matcha steamed buns filled with red bean paste instead of chocolate.

The third is "chocolate," which is the most popular item among children.
When you heat it in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds, the chocolate will melt from the fluffy chocolate dough ♡ It has a luxurious feel just like a dessert, making it the perfect flavor for when you want something sweet.

The fourth and last one is "black tea", which is obviously packed with tea leaves.
It also contains a generous amount of black tea liqueur, giving it a refined aroma and rich flavor that spreads softly. Even though you're not actually drinking black tea, you'll feel like you're enjoying a quality tea time.

Other unique flavors available include "Cappuccino," "Strawberry Milk," and "Brown Sugar."
The types on display in the store change daily, so it's fun to see what flavors you'll encounter. They're all carefully made to bring out the flavor of the ingredients, so you can't go wrong with whatever you choose! Try finding your favorite among them ♪
We also offer delicious shumai and meat buns that you can't find anywhere else!
Bread isn't the only steamed dish that's attracting attention.
As soon as I entered the store, a delicious aroma of dim sum was wafting from the air.
First, let's start with the chunky "Shumai." They have "Shumai" (4 pieces for 500 yen), "Shumai Bento (3 shumai, side dish, pickles, rice)" (550 yen), and "Mochi Rice Shumai" (2 mochi rice shumai, 2 shumai, total of 4 pieces for 550 yen) that is only available on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Juicy shumai packed with the delicious flavors of pork and chicken. The delicious flavor and gentle sweetness that spreads with every bite is irresistible! The texture of the vegetables that can be felt amongst the meatiness is also good.
The "Mochi Rice Shumai" which is only available on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays is also delicious!
Both are made so that they can be enjoyed even without the vinegar and soy sauce, so try eating them as is and savor the flavor of the ingredients directly.
The owner recommends adding a little mustard after eating. The spiciness of the mustard enhances the flavor even more, and the deliciousness will linger even after you've finished eating.

Next is "meat bun" (200 yen).
Both the dough and the bean paste are handmade, and the shop owner has put a lot of care into it. The dough is soft and fluffy, yet chewy, with a texture you won't find anywhere else. The bean paste is full of ingredients and has a strong sweetness. It's delicious to eat it as is, without any dipping sauce.

Unique and never-before-seen sweets! Recommended as gifts
Be sure to check out the sweets, which are perfect as gifts. The pale colors are cute and unique, unlike anything you've seen anywhere else!
Some of the flavors available include "Rare Cheesecake (Berry/Pineapple)" (500 yen each), "Mochimochi Almond Tofu" (4 pieces for 500 yen, 8 pieces for 1,000 yen), and "Steamed Pudding" (200 yen).

This time, I bought the colorful "Mochimochi Almond Tofu" (4 pieces for 500 yen) for myself.
Fruit is stuffed inside the chewy, soft almond jelly, creating a totally new texture! Another nice thing about each of the four varieties is that they contain a different fruit: strawberry, mango, kiwi, and pineapple. In each case, the sweetness of the fruit and the gentle flavor of the almond jelly go perfectly together.

We also had the steamed pudding.
The rich, full-bodied flavor of the eggs fills your mouth. It has a firm texture and a nostalgic, comforting taste.

There is also a wide selection of steamed dishes available, such as "Chinese-style sticky rice" (380 yen), "Tender pork cartilage (with konjac)" (500 yen), and "Steamed chicken" (500 yen).
All of them have a gentle flavor that will make you feel at ease every time you eat them, and they will help you enjoy a heart-warming moment during your busy days.
Please come and try the many dishes that the owner is particular about: "simple dishes that bring out the best flavor of the ingredients." (Text by Yuzu)
