A lineup of famous delicacies! The hugely popular "National Famous Ekiben and Delicious Food Competition" is being held (Hakata Hankyu)

This time, we will introduce the hugely popular event held by Hakata Hankyu, "The 9th National Famous Ekiben and Delicious Food Competition," where you can casually experience the feeling of traveling.

[February 26th to March 4th] The 9th National Famous Ekiben and Delicious Food Competition will be held at Hakata Hankyu

The 9th National Famous Ekiben and Delicious Food Festival will be held for seven days from Wednesday, February 26th to Tuesday, March 4th, 2025 at the event hall on the 8th floor of Hakata Hankyu.

More than 100 kinds of diverse ekiben will be delivered directly from all over the country, and 13 ekiben shops will set up stalls and hold demonstrations at the venue. Special bento boxes using local ingredients will also be available to promote the restoration of the Noto Railway.

In addition, 26 stores will be gathering to sell delicious food from all over the country that is loved by tourists as well as locals.

Special lunch box for the Noto Railway restoration project

The Noto Railway (running from Nanao Station in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture to Anamizu Station in Anamizu Town, Hōsu District) was damaged in the Noto Peninsula earthquake last year. In an effort to regain passenger numbers, the Noto Nakajima Station convenience store, Eki Marche Wanderers, has developed a new ekiben called "Noto Nakajima Ekiben - Winter Luxury Noto Oyster Rice" (1,850 yen per portion).

This dish uses ingredients from Noto such as Noto oysters, Noto vegetables and Nakajimana pickles, and Gorojima Kintoki simmered in lemon.

Enjoy gorgeous ekiben made fresh using seafood and local meat!

One of the highlights of the "National Famous Ekiben and Delicious Food Festival" is the "demonstration sales" where you can buy freshly made bento at the venue. This time, 13 popular ekiben stores from all over the country will be doing demonstrations.

Shrimp big catch colorful lunch box

The "Ebi Tairyo Irodori Bento" (2,700 yen per person, 50 lunches per day) is sold exclusively at Hakata Hankyu by "Asahikawa Station Tachiuri Shokai" at Asahikawa Station in Hokkaido. The gorgeousness of the three types of shrimp and nine types of seafood will make your cheeks melt.

Squid rice

"Ikameshi" (990 yen per portion) from "Ikameshi Abe Shoten" in Mori Station, Hokkaido. The secret to its long-standing popularity is the secret sweet and spicy sauce that has been passed down since the store first opened, and the tenderness of the squid!

Popular octopus rice

The "Hiyatari Tako Rice" (1,380 yen per person) from "Awajiya" at Nishi-Akashi Station in Hyogo Prefecture is a popular dish every year. It is a famous ekiben with octopus, conger eel, and seasonal vegetables served in a ceramic octopus pot.

There will also be a special edition "500 Series Hitaridako Rice" (1,680 yen per portion) made of ceramic painted in the style of the 500 Series Shinkansen.

Extra thick beef tongue assortment bento (heated)

Also check out the "Extra Thick Beef Tongue Assortment Bento" (3,150 yen per person, limited to 50 meals per day) at "Tan-ya Zenjiro" in Sendai Station, Miyagi Prefecture. The extra thick beef tongue is topped with off-cuts and sausages, making it super meaty!

You can enjoy the texture and flavor of traditional Sendai hand-prepared beef tongue. The container has a heating function so you can warm it up just before eating.

Beef Doman

"Beef Domannaka" (1,480 yen per portion) from "Shinkineya" at Yonezawa Station, Yamagata Prefecture. This beef bowl-style bento is topped with soft stewed beef seasoned with a secret sauce and minced beef, served on top of "Domannaka" rice produced in Yamagata Prefecture. It's a delicious dish even when cooled.

Kanazawa Shrimp and Crab Lunch Box

The "Kanazawa Shrimp and Crab Sanmai Bento" (1,680 yen per person) from "Ekiben Takano" at Kanazawa Station in Ishikawa Prefecture is only available at Hakata Hankyu. It's luxurious to be able to enjoy "crab sushi" made with fruity crab vinegar using apple vinegar, "gasu shrimp marinated in soy sauce" and "kobako crab" all in one box!

Takeda's Conger Eel Rice

"Takeda's Conger Eel Rice" (2,160 yen per portion) at "Maneki Foods" in Himeji Station, Hyogo Prefecture. Thick conger eel is lightly grilled, then seared, and quickly simmered in a secret sauce.

Other not-to-be-missed items include the "Grilled Mackerel Sushi" (1,404 yen per portion) from "Wakahiro" at Fukui Station, Fukui Prefecture, the "Unagi Mabushi" (1,580 yen per portion) from "Tsuboya" at Toyohashi Station, Aichi Prefecture, and the "Sea Urchin Bento" (2,500 yen per portion) from "Sanriku Rias-tei" at Kuji Station, Iwate Prefecture.

Limited quantity and sold out! Over 100 varieties of direct delivery ekiben

More than 100 different kinds of ekiben are delivered directly from all over the country every day by plane and bullet train! There is a wide variety available, from the same flavors that have been loved for many years to new flavors that have been on sale since this winter.

The most popular direct-delivered ekiben, with many repeat customers every year, is "Ueno Anagomeshi" (2,700 yen per portion) from "Anagomeshi Ueno" at Miyajimaguchi Station in Hiroshima Prefecture, which will be on sale from February 26th (Wed) to March 2nd (Sun) (scheduled to be on sale from around noon each day). Only 60 units will be available in stores each day, so if you're interested, hurry up!

There will also be ekiben featuring bullet trains and characters, such as the "923-type Doctor Yellow Lunch Box" (1,600 yen per portion) at Shin-Kobe Station in Hyogo Prefecture.

There is a wide selection of popular products, such as the "Old-fashioned Shumai" (15 pieces for 700 yen) from "Kiyoken" in Kanagawa Prefecture, the "Phantom Chicken Wings" (5 pieces for 651 yen) from "Sekai no Yamachan" in Aichi Prefecture, and the "Original Takoyaki" (12 pieces for 701 yen) from "Osaka Tamade Aizuya, the store where takoyaki originated."

You can enjoy the "Ebitamaten Bukkake Udon" (1,199 yen per portion, limited to 100 bowls per day) from "Hinode Noodle Factory" in Kagawa Prefecture as an eat-in option.
