Delicious chewy crepes! A popular cafe where you can even interact with animals (Kitakyushu City)
Hello. This is Chihi Log, a casual website that provides information about Fukuoka, with a focus on gourmet food.
This time, we will introduce a wonderful cafe in Kokura Minami Ward, Kitakyushu City. You can even interact with animals in the same building!
Cafe Peer Lab (Kutami-nishi, Kokuraminami-ku, Kitakyushu City) is a café that takes pride in its crepes made with carefully selected ingredients.
Cafe Peer Lab is located about a 12-minute walk from JR Kutami Station. There is free parking, so it is convenient to go by car.

The interior of the store has a calm atmosphere with a monochrome motif.

Ordering is done at the counter just inside the entrance. Looking at the menu, there are light meals such as crepes, ice cream, udon, and pasta, all priced at around 500 yen, with pasta dishes priced at under 700 yen, making them all very reasonably priced!

Homemade chewy dough and smooth cream! Special crepes available from 430 yen
The crepe lineup includes nine dessert varieties, priced from 430 yen to 800 yen, and four side dish varieties, all priced at 500 yen.
For some dessert menu items, you can choose between whipped cream or custard (prices vary).

We were given a special opportunity to see how the cream is made, and it turns out that the homemade custard cream is made with plenty of vanilla seeds and left to sit for a day. It has a refined richness and flavor, and a smooth texture.

The dough is left to rest for a day, which gives it a soft and chewy texture! It uses melted butter, so it's flavorful and delicious.

Strawberry Crepe
The first thing I ordered was "Strawberry" (whipped cream 750 yen, custard 800 yen). *The photo shows the whipped cream.
From December to May, they use fresh organically grown strawberries, and from June to November, they use homemade strawberry jam made from those strawberries.

The gently sweet whipped cream and sweet and sour strawberries went perfectly together.
Caramel Banana Crepe
"Caramel Banana" (whipped cream 500 yen, custard 550 yen) is a crepe made with a whole banana. *The photo shows the whipped cream

There was plenty of cream in the dough.

The caramel syrup comes in a heart-shaped container!

The fluffy cream and satisfying bananas were wrapped in soft and chewy dough, and it was a delightful treat.
Similarly, there is also "Chocolate Banana" (whipped cream 500 yen, custard 550 yen) which comes in a heart-shaped container with chocolate sauce.
Crème brûlée crepes
"Creme brulee" (custard only, 550 yen) is a dish that is finished by searing it over a burner just before serving.

The crispy, fluffy, chewy texture was addictive.

Drinks start at 200 yen. This time I ordered "Melon Soda Juice" (Medium 200 yen, Large 300 yen). *The photo shows the M size.

Other sweets available include "ice cream" (from 400 yen).
Great for lunch! Pasta dishes available from 600 yen
Also check out the pasta on the food menu!
It uses flat noodles that have a chewy texture and mix well with the sauce.
Spicy Fish Eggs cream sauce
"Spicy Fish Eggs Cream Sauce" (600 yen) is characterized by its rich flavor, made by combining Spicy Fish Eggs with full-bodied fresh cream from Hokkaido.

Creamy Bolognese
"Creamy Bolognese" (600 yen) is made by slowly simmering ground beef, tomato paste and aromatic vegetables.
This dish is also made with fresh cream from Hokkaido, giving it a rich and full-bodied flavor.

The cheese is toasted over a burner just before serving, which adds a nice aroma.

On the second floor is the "Pia Lab" cafe where you can interact with cute small animals.
On the second floor, there is a small animal-only mini cafe called "Pia Rabo." It costs 500 yen for 45 minutes (200 yen for an extension of 20 minutes), and includes one drink (250 yen). Children under 5 years old are free to enter.
You will be greeted by cute animals such as rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, degus, dogs, and pigs.

There is also a "snack experience" available with a limited number of offers per day, and the number and price vary depending on the animal (200 to 300 yen).
For example, Mugi the dog costs 300 yen per meal. Limited to three meals on weekdays and five meals on weekends and holidays.

Although the space was small, we had the opportunity to interact with many animals and had a very fulfilling time.
You can either just enjoy the cafe on the first floor or interact with the animals on the second floor. Please come and visit us. (Text by CHIHIRO)
