[Hakata Area Izakaya] A pub serving Japanese food!? A popular restaurant with beer experts and delicious food (Fukuoka)

Hello! I'm Fukuoka Nyakki, a writer who enjoys discovering new food in and around Fukuoka city.

This time, we will introduce an Irish pub located in Gionmachi, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City.

Full of exotic atmosphere! Irish pub "THE SHIP" (Gionmachi, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City)

THE SHIP is an Irish pub with a striking red exterior, located a two-minute walk from Gion Station on the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line, along Gion Boulevard near Hakata Police Station.

On the second floor is our sister store, "Japanese Sake and Tableware Yonehachi."

When you open the wooden door bearing the word "GUINNESS" and enter the bar, you'll find an Irish-style interior decorated in red and lit with warm incandescent light. It makes you feel like you're in a bar in a foreign country.

In addition to the counter, there are standing and table seats. There is also the "Concorde Room" (20 people capacity) which can be rented exclusively, so it seems like it can be used for a variety of occasions.

The taste is different! Beer poured by a "master"

The main attraction at THE SHIP is the delicious beer poured by the friendly bartender.

He is an official Tapster, a certified pourer, from Pilsner Urquell, a brand representative of the beer powerhouse of the Czech Republic. This special title is given only to those who have undergone training and passed an examination in the Czech Republic under the brand's philosophy of "brewers brew the beer, and pourers complete the beer." There are apparently only a handful of such people in Japan.

He has the skill to change the taste of the same beer just by changing the way it is poured!

Of course, the first thing you want to drink is Pilsner Urquell. The photo shows a beer poured the traditional way, "Halladinka" (small 950 yen, regular 1,250 yen), where you pour a generous amount of foam first and then the beer underneath. It has a good balance of bitterness and sweetness, and a smooth texture. It has a soft carbonation, so it's perfect for savoring it slowly.

You can also enjoy comparing the two beers with "Schnitt" (small 780 yen, regular 950 yen), which has a lot of foam and allows you to enjoy the aroma, and "Mirko" (small 780 yen, regular 950 yen), which is 90% foam and allows you to enjoy its richness and sweetness.

Other notable beers include "Draft Guinness" (3/4 pint 900 yen, pint 1,070 yen) and "Brew Dog Punk IPA" (2/3 pint 1,000 yen, pint 1,470 yen). The photo shows "Black and Tan Half & Half" (1,050 yen).

They also have a wide selection of Japanese beers, including draft beers and rare bottled beers.

Of course, in addition to beer, there is also a wide selection of whiskey, Western liquor, cocktails, and more.

The lineup is so good you'll want to keep coming back and trying different things. It's irresistible for alcohol lovers.

Japanese course!? Exquisite dishes made with carefully selected ingredients

If you're interested in the food, there are a variety of pub-style a la carte dishes to go with your drinks, such as "Fish and Chips" (1,080 yen for a single, 1,880 yen for a double) and "Assorted Fresh Sausages" (1,500 yen).

What catches your eye is the wide variety of menu items that use the brand beef "Saga Beef"! In addition to the limited-edition "100% Saga Beef Shepherd's Pie" (1,380 yen), there is a wide variety of items such as "Seared Saga Beef" (1,080 yen), "Saga Beef Custom-Cut Rump Steak" (50g 1,080 yen, orders start from 100g), limited-edition "Saga Beef Tekka Maki" (1,080 yen), "Seared Saga Beef Bowl" (1,320 yen), and "Saga Beef Sicilian Rice" (1,320 yen).

There is even a course menu that includes a variety of Japanese dishes, including carefully selected fresh sashimi fish!

This time, we tried the "Yonehachi Karatsu Fish Course (with premium drink)" (15,300 yen *Orders for 4 or more people, up to 8 people). You can choose premium drinks such as beer and sake, including the previously introduced "Pilsner Urquell" and "Draft Guinness", to pair with your meal.

The menu changes depending on what's in stock, but I'll introduce you to what was on offer on the day I visited.

Yonehachi Karatsu Fish Karatsu Oyama Fresh Fish Shop's Wild Fish Course (with premium drink)

First up is "Iroha Oysters with Vinegar and Soy Sauce Jelly," "Stir-fried Fig Broth," and "Green Sea Cucumber with Ponzu Sauce." All of these flavors go well with alcohol.

I especially enjoyed the oysters from Iroha Island in Karatsu City, which were in season. They were large, plump, and had a rich flavor.

And then there's the dish called "Usushiri (thinly sliced) wild flounder killed live at Karatsu Oyama Fresh Fish Shop"! This flounder was killed by Takuro Oyama of Karatsu's Oyama Fresh Fish Shop, who is said to be a genius at the "nerve-killing" method of processing fish that keeps it incredibly fresh, and who fascinates chefs from Japan and abroad.

This amount is quite generous for two people.

It's clear and beautiful. When you put two or three pieces into your mouth with your chopsticks, the chewy texture and sweetness and flavor spread out in your mouth.

It was so fresh, it was as if it had been freshly cut from the fish tank! This is the skill of a master. The melt-in-your-mouth fin was also amazing. This may be the first time I've ever eaten such delicious flounder.

This is "A5 rank Saga beef rump steak from female beef raised on Saga Beef Miyazaki Farm."

The meat had a fine texture and juicy fat. It was absolutely delicious.

Oysters from Iroha Island in Karatsu City were also available in the "Oyster Miso Nabe" hotpot.

It's rich because it contains lots of oysters, but the grated daikon radish makes it light.

To finish off, we had a rice porridge with oyster extract soup. We were able to fully enjoy the deliciousness of oysters.

For dessert, enjoy homemade creme brûlée, prepared right in front of you.

It had a rich flavor and was the perfect way to finish off the meal.

I never imagined I would be able to enjoy such a luxurious and delicious course meal at an Irish pub.

By the way, for the course introduced this time, if there are four people, you can dine in the Taisho Dining room at Japanese Sake and Tableware Yonehachi on the second floor (with a private bar and private washroom, see photo below), or if there are five to eight people, you can dine in the Concorde Room on the first floor.
