[Dazaifu Cafe] Japanese sweets and coffee are a perfect match! Limited menu in collaboration with famous shops (Fukuoka)

Hello! I'm Yumi Kuroishi, a writer who connects the city of Fukuoka with its people.

This time, we will introduce a cafe where you can spend a quiet time near the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine!

It's so quiet you'd never guess it's right next to Tenmangu Shrine! The cozy cafe "Ueshima Coffee Shop Dazaifu Branch" (Dazaifu City)

Ueshima Coffee is a popular cafe chain whose signature menu items are coffee and milk coffee, which are made with generous amounts of beans and extracted with a filtrate filter.

The Dazaifu store opened in October 2023, about a 2-minute walk from Nishitetsu Dazaifu Station, about 15 meters down an alley from the approach to the shrine.

Although it is a tourist destination, the area is also home to many ordinary houses, and the white exteriors of the Japanese houses blend in naturally with the surrounding area.

Once inside, you'll find a bright and open space. The impressive plants decorating the atrium are a highlight.

There are counter seats and seats that can accommodate multiple people.

The second floor is a calm space with indirect lighting, and is recommended for those who want to relax.

There is an area modeled after the dry landscape garden of the nearby Komyo Zenji Temple, as well as sofa seats where you can relax while admiring the bonsai. The sofas are trimmed in a pale pink color reminiscent of plum blossoms, and some of the walls are decorated with plum and bush warblers, giving the shop a Dazaifu feel.

If you come here, you'll want to try this! Dazaifu store exclusive menu

The menu mainly consists of "Nel Drip Blend Coffee" (R-size HOT 690 yen / ICE 710 yen), "Milk Coffee (Brown Sugar)" (R-size HOT 760 yen / ICE 780 yen), and "Rich Milk Black Tea (Wasanmitsu)" (R-size HOT 780 yen / ICE 800 yen).

The shop also offers a colorful sandwich made in-house, such as the "B・L・T with Cheese Egg" (820 yen), and baked goods such as "Salted Madeleines" (330 yen), making it a great place to stop by for a morning drink or afternoon coffee.

From 11:00 to 15:00, they also offer a "Lunch Set" (from 1,490 yen) which includes your choice of food, salad, and drink.

At Ueshima Coffee Dazaifu, you should definitely try the exclusive "Nagomi Set" (980 yen), which is only available for dine-in.

This is a collaboration menu with Baien Kashidokoro, a Japanese confectionery shop in Dazaifu that is famous for its "Uso Mochi" (Uso Mochi) and includes a set of two types of sweets and a medium-sized drink.

Drinks available include "Coffee (HOT/ICED)", "Milk Coffee (HOT/ICED, Brown Sugar/Unsweetened)", "Caffeine-Free Milk Coffee (HOT/ICED, Brown Sugar/Unsweetened)", "Tea (HOT/ICED)", "Rich Milk Black Tea (HOT/ICED, Brown Sugar/Unsweetened)", and "Orange Juice".

The sweets offered will be two of each of the following: "Mini Umemori," "Kofuume," "Yorotsuyo," "Homanzan," and "Tobiume." They vary depending on the day, and on the day we visited we had "Mini Umemori" and "Kofuume."

"Mini Umemori" is a sweet that was presented to the Emperor and Empress when they visited Dazaifu.

This is a masterpiece of Kyoto-style baked gluten sandwiched with specially made koshian paste. When you put it in your mouth, the light texture and elegant sweetness spread softly.

"Tofu Ume" is a famous confectionery named after a waka poem written by Sugawara no Michizane: "If the east wind blows, let the plum blossoms bloom. Even though you have no master, do not forget the spring."

The buns were made with Hokkaido red bean paste wrapped in a fragrant, moist skin and baked, and had a simple yet deep flavor.

The recommended drink to pair it with is coffee. First, take a bite of the Japanese sweets, then have a coffee. It may seem like an unexpected combination, but I was surprised at how well they go together!

The slightly bitter taste of the coffee brought out the sweetness of the Japanese sweets, leaving me wanting more and more.

The "Wa Set" is only available for dine-in, but drinks are usually available for take-out. The paper cups with a hummingbird print are stylish.
